It can't Be

I really wasn't expecting so much support for my Killer x Dream ship.

Thanks guys! :3

---Nightmare's POV----

I nuzzled Cross and held him close to my chest, loving the positive aura he was giving off. He buried his face in the front of my hoodie and hummed, obviously in complete bliss from the attention I was giving him.

I sighed and stroked the top of his skull, looking round for any sign of Dream. I haven't spotted him yet, so he's either being held back in class, or he saw what happened between me and Cross and is crying his eyes out in an alleyway or something.

I'd be lying if I said that I wasn't feeling incredibly guilty for snatching Cross from Dream. He trusted me by saying what he was planning. And I betrayed him by stealing Cross from him moments before he could be happy with him.

But then again, Dreams always taken everything from me. When we were kids he'd get the best of everything while I was left with the rejects or rubbish stuff.

No one cared about me. They only cared about Dream. Even our own mum didn't try to hide the fact that she preferred Dream over me.

Dream always got what he wanted. If there was something we both wanted, mum would get it for Dream and not for me. She never even asked him to share with me. Of course Dream shared anyway, but I'd still feel left out and unloved.

But now with Cross, I'm finally feeling the emotions I had missed out on. I hummed and looked down at him fondly. "C'mon Crossy, we better be going now."

He looked up at me. "What about Dream?"

I winced. "He's probably gone home without me..."

Cross nodded and buried his face in my chest again. I chuckled and pushed him back a bit, making him whine. "Lets go. I want to get home."

Cross stiffened at that.

I glanced at him. "You okay...?"

Cross looked up at me and bit his bottom 'lip'. He looked like he wanted to tell me something, or ask me a question. "Umm, yeah...I'm fine..."

I looked at him doubtfully but shrugged, turning around and walking out the school gates. Cross quickly ran after me and walked by my side. A strong cold breeze suddenly blew past us and I shielded my face with my arm.

Cross did the same and shivered, seeming cold.

"Are you cold?" I asked.

He gave a shaky nod in response.

I laughed. "Really? Your dressed for Antarctica! How are you cold?"

He huffed and glared at me, clearly not impressed by my statement. I smirked and put my arm round him, pulling him closer to me.

Cross clung to me all the way home, not wanting to leave my side. He did actually seem rather cold...

We reached my house and Cross' grip on me tightened. He clearly either wanted to come in with me, or not want to go to his house.

I nudged him and he let go of my arm reluctantly. I looked down at him and he looked up at me desperately. He clearly was trying to tell me something, but was stopping himself at the last second, resulting in his strained expression.

"Is something wrong?" I asked, cupping his cheek with my hand.

He shook his head lightly and leant his head into my hand, his expression calming for a moment. Then he took a step back and shook his head. "Im fine, sorry...See you tomorrow..."

I watched as he turned and started walking down the road slowly. He was hugging himself and looking down at the floor, clearly not wanting to go home.

I frowned. Something doesn't feel right about all this. Something's wrong.

I waited until Cross had rounded the bend in the road and I crept after him, following from the shadows. I feel like a stalker. But I want to find out what's wrong with him. He was so happy and calm earlier. But as soon as I mentioned going home he had gone tense and hesitant.

I speed walked along till I could see him again and followed, making sure I was a substantial distance away from him so he didn't see me.

Cross would occasionally look behind him at each bend in the road, so I kept having to dive behind a bush or press myself up against a wall and blend in with the shadows.

Eventually Cross seemed to slow down. He stopped outside the old house that's been abandoned for years. I've been in there once, it's decaying and falling apart.

I pressed myself against a wall as Cross looked in my direction and scanned the road, looking for any people. Seeing that there were 'none', he quickly checked the other way before following the fence round to the back of the house.

I narrowed my eye. What's he doing?

As soon he had disappeared I ran over, slowing when I reached the decaying house. I cautiously peered round the fence in time to see Cross pulling a plank from the fence.

I leant back and waited a few seconds before looking again. He'd gone! I frowned. Don't tell me he...

I crept forwards and reached the plank at the fence. It was loose, and could easily be pulled out and placed back.

I looked around quickly, checking that no one was here, then I pulled the plank to the side and slipped into the garden.

It was practically a jungle. The whole thing was just a mess of thorns and brambles with weeds and comes choking any other life forces that tried to grow through.

I looked over at the house to see a shadow disappear inside. I walked over slowly and frowned. Why on earth is Cross coming here?

I looked at the window warily. Is the way I'm supposed to get in? Please don't tell me this is where Cross....

No. It can't be. I won't let it be.

---Cross' POV----

I shivered as I walked up the rotting stairs to my room. "You idiot! You should have asked if you could stay with him!"  Chara hissed. "It's not like he was going to turn you out and chuck you on the streets if you told him right?"

I walked into my room and sighed. "I can't do that. That would be asking for too much. I can't ask to live with him! That's not some casual thing you can bring up in a conversation is it?"

Chara sighed and floated round the room aimlessly, a pissed off expression on his face. I sat down on my mattress and watched him dully.

I wish I had the guts to ask Nightmare if I could stay with him... But I was too scared that he'd hate me and throw me out, just like everyone else has...

Chara looked out a gap in the boards covering the window and growled.

"What is it?"

"It's snowing..."

I tensed. For me, snow signified nights desperately curled up in a ball, hugging anything to me in an attempt to keep me warm. Now I really wished that I had asked Nightmare if I could stay with me...

He wouldn't have turned me away...right...?

Suddenly a crash sounded from downstairs and I bolted up to my feet. Chara looked over at the door. I gulped and crept over to the door, opening it and walking out on to the landing.

"Cross no!" Chara hissed. "You don't know who that could be!"

I ignored him and kept walking, slowly making my way down the stairs. Once in the living room I summoned a large knife and held it by my side cautiously.

There was someone stood in the kitchen.

I crept towards them and raised my knife, they stood still, seeming not to have heard me yet.

I winced as I stepped on a bit of glass. It let out a crunching sound I froze.

The figure turned around and I felt a lump form in my throat.

Nightmare.

"Cross?"
