Unexpected

Third Person

The wind is warm through the day, and bluejay's sing in delight. Two friends are riding their bike's through the sidewalk. These two boys are named Cole and Jay. Cole has black hair with brown eyes, and is slightly taller than Jay. Jay has auburn hair with blue eyes. You can say they've been friends for a very long time.

"Come on Cole! Hurry up!", Jay shouted. "I am! Just wait for me, Jay!", Cole shouted back. Cole petaled faster, enough to catch up with Jay. They've just gotten out of school. "So I've been eager to tell you something!", Jay exclaimed. "Really? What is it?", Cole asked. As Jay was about to reply, Cole's phone rang. Cole answered it as he began to talk. "Yeah I know mom but...okay just give me a few seconds...fine...", Cole then hung up the phone. "Sorry Jay. I have to go, my mom's worried about me, just leave me a message at "our place." It's easier, see 'ya!", Cole explained as he petaled away in his bike.

"Damn Cole...you sure are busy", Jay muttured as he quickly wrote a letter. Jay petaled as fast as he can and soon reached an abandoned house. Jay got off his bike and walked sneakily behind the house. Jay then left the letter under a hole that was near a shed. Jay then quickly sneaked back to his bike and petaled away.

A few hours later, Cole went to their secret hiding place. Cole looked at the letter, it said: "Cole, so I've been having my eye on a girl in school. She's with us in History, our last class in school. She's really pretty. So do you suggest anything to make her notice me?" Cole then responded to it by writing back: "Just be yourself Jay. It's better that way than being someone your not. I'm sure she's nice. Do you know her name?" Cole hid the letter under the shed, after he took Jay's letter and ran back to his bike.

An hour later, Jay, was sure that Cole had responded by now, so he used his bike to go to their secret hiding place. When Jay found the letter, he then wrote: "Yes. Her name is Nya Smith. She's so cool! Could you help me talk to her?"

Another hour passed by and Cole went back to the abandoned house. But he noticed something. He saw two separate letters. Cole and Jay had agreed that if they needed to write more, go use the back or staple another paper.

Cole got one letter. That one was Jay's. He read the letter but soon layed his eyes upon the other letter. He picked the other letter. It said: "Hello, I am called Zane. I have found a letter under this shed. I am quite confused of what this person is talking about. If anyone finds this letter, or person who has written the previous letter, please tell me what is going on. I will come back at the night, I am sure someone might  come by. Thank you for reading this letter. I am Zane; built to protect those who cannot protect themselves."

Cole looked bewildered. Someone had found their secret hiding place. The place holded a lot of memories. Memories of when they first met...

~flashback~

Young 4-year-old Cole was outside in the cold rain. He had gotten lost. How? Well, he was playing with a ball he had been given, but it accidentally went across the street. Young Cole knew the street was dangerous, but he was determined to return the ball. He had been able to get the ball, but not did not have time to return to the yard when he saw a car going at fast speed towards him. His eyes grew wide. He knew he couldn't return in time, so he went to the other side, which was closer. He wanted to cross back over to his house, but couldn't. He was scared. Instead he tried to find another way to get back, but ended up lost. It has then started to rain, and he couldn't find any shelter. The wind was cold and young Cole shivered when the cold air made contact with his skin.

He then soon found an abandoned house. He took shelter there. The rain couldn't reach him, but the air could. He only had a black sweater, but that wasn't enough to keep him warm. He then footsteps. He had thought it was a kidnapper and he backed away until he saw a small shadowy figure. Soon the figure had been revealed. It was a boy. Like him. Only that he seemed smaller, and he was probably a few months younger than him. "H-Hello?", young Cole asked. "H-H-Hi....", the young boy whispered. The boy was soaked. The only thing that you could see from him was his electric blue eyes. Water poured from his hair to the ground. Young Cole gulped as he tried to start a conversation. "I-I'm Cole." The young boy looked at Cole. His brown eyes were filled with trust. "I'm-I'm J-Jay." The young boy has stuttered a bit, not only from nervousness, but from also the cold that was unbearable. Cole noticed this. Cole motioned Jay to come over and sit next to him.

Young Jay was hesitant at first, but soon found himself sitting next to Cole. Jay shivered as he brought his knees to his chest and hugged them. Young Cole took off his sweater and wrapped it around young Jay. Jay was stunned. Why would this boy, he had just met, help him? Cole must've noticed this because he replied, "You need it more than I do. Besides I can handle this." Jay just silently nodded before becoming a bit light headed. He had then fallen asleep on Cole's shoulder. Cole smiled before also falling asleep.

The next day, Cole and Jay woke up by someone talking. They both first looked confused at their surroundings before remembering what happened last night. They soon found themselves looking at a police officer. "Hello young sir's. Are your names happen to be "Cole" and "Jay"?", the police officer asked. The two young boys nodded. "Well, your parents are worried about you. I have to bring you back to your parents. Get jnside the car and I'll drive you to your houses, alright?", the police officer as young Cole and Jay stood up and followed the officer to the car. Jay tensed up a bit and squeezed Cole's arm. "It's alright Jay. He's going to bring us back to our parents", Cole said. Jay's scared expression turned happy and he hopped into the car. Cole sat beside him.

A few minutes later, Cole's house was in view. Cole smiled as soon as the car stopped in front of his house. His parents were already outside. He then opened the car's door and ran to his parents and hugged them. He didn't want to let them go. "Thank you", Cole's mom said to the police officer as he nodded. "Have a nice day m'am", the police officer said.

Meanwhile, Jay was still inside. He then remembered he still had Cole's sweater. "Cole! You forgot-" It was already too late. The car started to move and soon it was away from Cole's house. Young Jay sighed. He then sees a junkyard in view. As much as he didn't like the junkyard, he was happy to at least see his parents again. The car stopped in front of the house and Jay quickly ran out of the car, into his parents arms. "Mom! Dad! I missed you so much!", young Jay exclaimed. "We did too, Jay", Jay's dad, Ed, said. The police officer then drove off, leaving the happy family of three.

Cole and Jay soon started pre-school. Jay had been peacefully drawing while Cole was playing with a ball with some different kids. The ball accidently hit Jay in the head. The others kids ran while Cole stayed to apologize. "I'm sorry. It was an accident, I-", Cole cut himself off when he recognized those electric blue eyes. "Jay?" Jay looked up at him and instantly noticed those brown eyes which were filled with trust. "Cole?" "Yes! It's me, Jay!", Cole said happily. Jay tackled him to a hug, which received a few weird looks from other kids. "I thought I would never see you again!", Jay said as he got off of Cole and helped him get off the ground. "Me too! I can't believe we're in the same school!", Cole replied. Cole then noticed the sweater Jay was wearing. It was the same one he had given him when he was cold from the rain. "Jay, is that my-" Cole got cut off by Jay. "Sweater?", Jay finished the sentence for him. "Yeah, I didn't have time to give it back, if you want I could give it back to you-", Jay started to take off the sweater, but was stopped by Cole who placed a hand on his arm. "No, it's fine, Jay. We're friends, aren't we?", Cole asked. "I-uh...y-yeah!", Jay stuttered as he put the sweater back on.

Since that moment, their friendship became stronger. They seemed like brothers most of the time. Cole being the oldest, and Jay being the youngest. When they reached middle school, they started to visit the abandoned and leave the letters there. And that brought everything where it is right now.

~end of flashback~

Cole shook his head at the memory. He then proceeded to call Jay. "Hey Cole. Anything wrong?", Jay's voice rang from the phone. There was silence was Cole. "Uh...Cole, is everything okay? Are you hurt?! Please answer!!", Jay freaked out. "I-I'm fine Jay. But you need to come over right now....", Cole replied as he hung up.

A few minutes later, Jay came. It was near dusk, and Cole had explained everything to Jay. Cole soon told Jay the plan. "So we're just gonna stay here until this "Zane" guy appears?", Jay asked. "Yeah. He said he'll be coming at night, so be prepared", Cole said as night came.

The sky was dark with beautiful stars shining. The moon was glistening from behind dark clouds that covered the view. The sounds of crickets were heard.

Cole and Jay were hiding inside the shed. They soon heard footsteps. They both tensed up. "Hello? I am Zane. If anyone's there, please tell me." Cole and Jay looked at each other. They took a deep breath before coming out of the shed. Zane could not be seen since it was so dark outside. "Hello?", Cole asked. The sudden voice startled Zane. Zane whipped around and saw Cole and Jay. "Hello", Zane said. Jay and Cole took out their phone's and were ready to put on their flashlight. "Please, when you turn on the flashlight from your phones, don't freak out...", Zane informed them. The boys gave each other a look before Jay saying: "Alright, we won't." Zane nodded, alerting them it was alright to turn on the phone's flashlight. When they turned on the flashlight and pointed it to the direction of Zane, they stood still. Their skin were made out of metal. He seemed to have some wires sticking out. He wasn't a human, but a robot....
