Snipit #4
I got out of the car and stretched my aching leg mucsles. Three and a half hours in a car will lock up any ones legs. I stood outside the large white house that now sheltered my best friend. It was her birthday today and I drove for three hours two hours early to give her a birthday surprise. I heard the car door slam shut behind me and turned to see Ivan getting our overnight bags, plastic tarps, and four tubs of paint out of the trunk of the car. I smiled and walked around behind the car to help him. My mom stuck her head out of the driver window to say goodbye.
"Now you two call me if you need anything, ya hear? I mean it, I will drive back over here to pick you two up at three in the morning if I have too." Mom said with all seriousness.
"Mom, we'll be fine. We'll be with Britt and her parents. Nothing bad will happen." I reasured her as I walked over to the car window. I bent down and gave her a kiss on the cheek.
"I know, I just worry for you two. You both are so far from home, I can't get here right away if something bad happens to you two. So stay safe and mind her parents alright?" She said in a motherly tone. She reached up and gave me a kiss on the cheek as well. She then turned to Ivan who had taken the supplies to the front door. "Don't think you can get away with not giving me a kiss goodbye mister! Get over here."
With a small blush on his fave Ivan walked back to the car and gave mom a kiss on her cheek as well. Because he was quite a bit taller then me he had to bend down farther amking a funny sight to passbyers. She reached up to kiss him too. I smiled at the motherly display of affection that I found to become more and more comon as he started spending more time over at our house and around me.
She may have only known him for five months but she took him into her heart completly. She acted as an adoptive mother to him. She constently checked on him and made sure he was alright. She'd feed him when he came over. She'd completly mother him and he'd get a little bashful over it but you could tell that he adored her attention. I, for one, found it absolutly adorable.
"I'll see you kids tomarrow after work, have fun!" Mom called out as she drove away. We waved her goodbye before heading up to the house. I noticed that Ivan still had a little bit of a blush on his face.
"Aww, did the big, bad Russian get embarassed over a little PDA?" I teased.
He responded with a glare and a huff. I laughed as I opened the door with the key they hid for us under the fake bird on the bird feeder. I opened the door to let him walk in with the stuff we brought over. We headed up the stairs with me in front to look for her room. It was really easy to spot considering it was the only one with a million locks and a sign with the words 'Stay OUT!' on it.
I walked over to see that three required a key, two were number locks, and two where digital that needed a passcode. I undid the first three with ease with the lock picking kit she gave me three years ago. It took a while for me to figure out how to use it when she first gave it to me, but now my skills are only beaten by her purly because she is faster. The second two took a little thought. The first one ended up being 2319 after the code in her favriot movie Monster Inc. The second was a combination of our threes birthdays being 7193.
The last two needed a lot of thought. If I messed up three times she would get an alert and the thing would shut down completly. I sat in thought for a moment. She had already technacly used me and Ivan for one of her locks and so she wouldn't do it again. Their's not a lot of people that she likes, let alone enough to make into a passcode. I tried typing in Gia into them. It came out with a negatative. Next I tried Mattie. Still a no go. I was on my last strike for both. I taped my thighs with my fingers as I thought. In the top one I hesitently typed in Cabin. I smiled as I saw the red light shift to green. I knew that the final one would be something that only a few people would know about. With less hesitation I typed in Nix. Once again the light shifted green.
"Whoohoo!" I cheered loudly as I finaly opened the door. I turned to give Ivan a highfive but stoped when I noticed that his arms where full. "Man, when Britt wants to hide something she will hide it. Now lets give her her gift."
Trying to unlock her door had taken a good half an hour so we had to be quick. I looked around her bare white walls and was mildly surprised to see that she had done nothing to even try to decorate her room. She always adored subdulty and hidden messages or pictures, like in her last room, but to see nothing at all was unlike her. Especialy after spending three forths of a year here already. Oh well, I'm going to change that soon enough.
I opened the four cans and carefully labled them while Ivan draped everything in the plastic tarps. The four cans look like they had nothing but clear paint inside when they actually glowed in the dark once exposed to enough light. The colors where blue, purple, green, and white. I layed down a pallets so that we could mix some of the colors if needed. I set up a small UV light and pointed it to the celing so that we could see the paint in the dark. Finaly I fliped the light switch sending the room into a semi darkness. I smiled seeing how well the paints glowed after being exposed to so little light.
I diped a brush in the blue paint and turn to look at the celling. I comptiplated my first move and bit my lower lip gently. I finaly decided how I wanted us to do this and got to work. For an hour we carefully slid the brushes over the smooth, white celing. We carefully blended and layered the colors to make an image complelty from our minds. We workedd in mostly silence with only a few words exchanged to let the other know what to do.
Finaly we were don in the nick of time. With bright smiles at our work we cleaned up her room. I put the lids back on the cans and stacked them neatly against her wall. Next I took the paint brushes and pallets to the sink. I washed the paint out thouroly untill the water stayed perfictly clear with no hints of paint being on them. I placed them in the dish drainer so they could dry. By now Ivan had come back in from throwing out the tarps. I walked back up to her room to turn on her light and turn off the UV lamp wich was also a giift for her. Ivan stood next to me as I gave the room a nod of aproval.
I heard the front door open followed by a shouted greeting. I rush down the stairs and tackel my friend in a crushin bear hug. She let out a laugh as she huged me back just as tightly. I saw her parents behind her and greeted them. They politly said hello back as they disapeared into their house. I heard Ivan come up from behind me and gave out a squeal of exsitment as I turned back to face him. Britt looked at me confused.
"So, what's got you so worked up?" She asked me.
"What, can't I just be happy to see my bestest friend ever?" I pouted as I crossed my arms.
"No. Now spill the beans, what'd you do?" She said firmly.
My face split into a large grin as I grabbed her ahnd and dragged her up the stairs with Ivan just behind us. I nearly triped twice with while spiting out some pretty colorfull curses. She raised a brow when she noticed that her door was wide open. I all but threw her in meking her stumble again. I closed the door once Ivan entered and turned to my friend with bright eyes. She glared at me before looking around her room.
She immeadiantly noticed the paint cans against the wall. She walked up to them to get a better look. She let out a small gasp as she read what kind of paints they were. She turned back to us with wide, questioning eyes. I noded and flipped the switch. Instanly her room was lit up in the univers. All across her celing where little galaxcis, nebulas, gas clouds, and stars. I even made sure to put up a few of her favorite constelations. She stared in aw at her newly, beautifully decorated room.
"So, do you like it?" I asked her nervously. I was sure that she would be, but she has been known to completly hate something she loved because she didn't do it or it was done wrong.
"You broke into my room, got past all my locks, and painted my room in a univers without my consent. I don't like it at all." She said coldly without looking at us and I could feel might heart drop. I was about to studder out an apollogy when she turned back to us with the biggest grin on her face. "I fucking love it!" She tackled us into a hug amking us stumble back against the wall and door.
"Oh thank God, I thought that you actually hated it." I said relived.
"Nah, I love it. And I love you idiots too." She said happily.
I heard Ivan sigh contently as he huged her back tightly in our little group hu. 'Oh yea. I could definetly get used to this. Being sourounded by the ones I love. This is perfect.' I thought happily.
