Chapter Twenty-Three-The Beginning of Training

Athena sat in her room waiting for Kassach to come get her to start her training. She hugged her knees to her chest and looked at her hands. How can she have something so powerful in her? Why did she have this power and why would it come out now?

She shook her head to clear her thoughts when a knock sounded at the door. She quickly got off the bed and walked over to the door. Opening it up, she saw Kassach standing in the doorframe.

"It's late," he told her in his deep voice. "The King would like you to get some sleep. You will begin training in the morning."

Athena refused to let the sigh of relief flow from her lips. She held it back as she said to him, "Thank you."

Kassach gave her a quick nod before turning to leave. Athena watched him go for a few moments before closing the door. She stripped herself of the blue dress and rummaged through the dresser for a pair of pajamas. The closest apparel she could find was a large white nightgown. She slipped the nightgown over her body and walked over to the bed.

Athena climbed into the bed and stared up at the ceiling. Sleep didn't come easy. Thoughts flowed through her mind preventing her to drift. Eventually, she drifted off to sleep.

-

The sound of metal bars squealing startled Celso. He sat up quickly from his sleeping position against the wall and looked at the intruder walking into his cell. He glared at the large figure before him.

The figures black scaly skin almost sparkled in the light of the torches. A large crown sat crookedly on his head and flowing cape followed behind him. The figure left his two guards at the door of the cell.

Celso tried to spread his hands apart, but they were still tied together from the time they had caught him. "What do you want, King Buledal?" he growled.

King Buledal knelt down in front of Celso and grinned wickedly. His sharp white teeth stood out against his black scales. "I just wanted to talk to you about the girl you followed here."

Celso clenched his fist. "What about her?"

"She's going to be mine," he told him blankly. "You see, the magic that resides in her body is very powerful."

"I think I get the point of that now," Celso growled back at him. "I've been hearing it ever since I met her." Celso's head suddenly whipped to one side as a blow connected to his cheek.

"Don't you dare speak without being spoken to!" King Buledal bellowed. "You will learn to respect me if you ever want to see your precious woman ever again!"

Celso kept his glare fixated on him, but didn't utter a sound.

King Buledal nodded, satisfied, and slowly stood back up. "Like I was saying. Her magic is not like the magic you thought before. Her magic is not like the kind of a wiccan. It's the magic of demons. From my understanding, she was never possessed by a demon but was around one. I know her story, Celso. I know what she went through not too long ago. I can't tell you for certain how she got the magic, but I do know how powerful it is." He clasped his hands together in front of him. "She will become mine. I've been looking for a queen. A queen as powerful as I."

Celso's eyes glared at him.

King Buledal smirked at him. "You think she won't agree, but she will. When the magic fully resides in her body, she will not be able to resist my proposal." He started to turn away when Celso tried to stand up and lunge towards him. The restraints held him back and pulled him back down. King Buledal laughed and turned back to him. "Better to realize the truth now than try to change it."

"She will never agree to being your queen," Celso growled as he pulled on the chains.

King Buledal laughed as he turned back around. "We'll just have to see what she thinks about that soon."

Celso glared at King Buledal's back as he left the cell and disappeared with his guards. Once he was sure that the King had left, he leaned back against the stone wall and sighed. He rubbed his eyes. Athena wouldn't agree to being his queen even if she was under the spell of some kind of magic.

Celso was going to make sure that she wasn't going to get under King Buledal's spell. He was going to make sure that she would stay his.

He closed his eyes as darkness swept over his cell room.

-

Athena woke up the next morning and got out of bed. She walked over to the dresser and picked out a dark red dress. Taking a look at herself in the mirror, she shook her head at her reflection. She had no more freedom. Her freedom was taken away when she was forced to become a weapon for King Buledal.

Athena looked down at her hands. She didn't even know how to control her magic.

A knock sounded at the door startling her. After calming her heartbeat down, she walked towards the door and opened it. Kassach stood in the doorway looking down at her.

"Are you ready for your first day of training?" he asked her with a smile.

Athena shrugged. "As ready as I'll ever be." She walked by Kassach and waited for him to lead the way. Once he was in front of her, she followed close on his heels. She kept her head down as she walked. She tried not to think what the training would consist of. She tried not to think of all the things she would have to do and how much destruction King Buledal would want her to do.

Kassach turned around to look at her. He stopped walking and laid a hand on her shoulder. "You will be fine, Athena."

"How do you know?" she asked him quietly with her head down.

Kassach sighed. "Because I won't let him ruin your energy."

"How will you be able to do that?" Athena asked while looking up at him. "Won't that be counted as going against your King if you try to stop him?"

Kassach nodded. "Yes, it will be, but I have excuses for why he shouldn't drain your energy."

"What are they?"

"You'll just have to wait," Kassach smirked as he turned around and continued walking.

Athena gave him a weird look at his back and continued to follow him. They walked for a while until they came to a large wooden door. The door had thousands of demon markings on them. Athena came up beside Kassach and ran her hand down a row of the markings.

"What does all this say?" she asked mesmerized.

Kassach looked up at the markings. "It talks about the demons exile to this place. How the demons seek revenge to the human world for placing them here."

Athena looked at Kassach. "Does it say how they will take revenge?"

Kassach looked down at Athena. "It talks about a weapon that will come at a certain age. When that weapon comes, that will be the sign to start the demons revenge."

"You talk as if you aren't one of the demons."

Kassach shrugged. "I might be a demon. I might be one of the King's closest guards, but that doesn't mean I agree with everything he says. I don't care if I'm stuck in the hot place. I don't care if my people ever get revenge on the humans." He sighed. "I have a family to take care of and I won't let them be in danger because of a long time needed revenge." He took a deep breath and pushed on the doors before Athena could ask anymore questions.

Athena followed him through the doors and into a large open room. The ceiling was dome shaped and covered in paintings of some kind of demon war.

"That is the visual of the story on the door," Kassach explained to her.

Athena tore her eyes away from the painting and looked around the walls. Large paintings of different demons covered the walls. Each painting had a golden plaque underneath them describing who the demon was and what he did. Athena walked over to one and tried to read it, but was having trouble deciphering the symbols.

Kassach come up behind her and read the symbols to her in his language. "It says, 'Urx Xeingza. First human hunter.'"

"Are they all human hunters?" Athena asked worriedly.

Kassach shook his head. "No. Most are, but some are just mages or common demons who did something great for the King of his time." He took a deep breath and walked away from the paintings. He wasn't able to take another step when the door opened and King Buledal walked through the door.

King Buledal, wearing his usual dark attire, smirked at Athena as he walked to the middle of the room. "I see you are interested in the painting of Urx Xeingza. My greatest human hunter. Do you know how many humans he killed?"

Athena kept her head high as she looked at King Buledal. She didn't answer him.

"He killed hundreds," King Buledal continued explaining without waiting for her answer. "He was the best in the business. Much to my disappointment, he was killed by a weak human! His soul came back to me, mangled and asking for forgiveness, but I would not give it to him. His death was unforgivable." King Buledal took a deep breath and composed himself. He motioned for Athena to come towards him.

Athena tried not to move, but it seemed as if she had no control over her body. Her feet moved without her mind telling them too. She tried to stop them, but her feet kept moving. Finally, her body came to a stop in front of King Buledal.

"That's better," King Buledal signed as he lowered his hand. "Today starts your training. I will be teaching you how to control your magic with your guard looking over me."

"Why would you need a guard to watch over you?" Athena questioned.

King Buledal smirked down at her as he leaned closer. She tried to move her face away, but some kind of pull was keeping her where she was. "You're dangerous, Athena."

"Then you should be afraid of me," Athena told him. "I could kill you and everyone who I wanted dead."

King Buledal laughed. "Yes, you could kill, but you don't know how." He straightened back up. "That's why I'm going to teach you." He started to turn his back on her.

"Why would you teach me something that I could just use against you?"

"You don't understand anything about the kind of magic that resides in you, do you?" King Buledal questioned her without turning his head to look at her.

"What do you think?"

King Buledal sighed as he shook his head. "The magic inside you doesn't work on me or any other creature with demon magic. You won't be able to use the magic on me to get revenge."

Athena looked down at her clenched hands.

King Buledal walked a few feet away from Athena before spinning around and flinging a blue light towards her. Athena brought her hands up to block the ball and closed her eyes. Nothing hit her. She opened her eyes to see the blue ball hovering just inches away from her hands. She moved her hands to the right and watched with amazement as the blue ball followed her hands. Athena giggled like a child as the watched it follow her hands wherever they went.

Athena remembered King Buledal watching her and cleared her throat. She looked up and saw the King smiling at her.

"You're a natural," he complimented her.

Athena huffed and rolled her eyes.

King Buledal walked closer to her. "Your training starts now."
