Chapter Thirty-Two - The Fight Begins

Training was finally finished for the human army. They waited for weeks after for the day that the demons came through the portal and started the war. Every day, every single man and woman who promised to fight stood at their post and patiently waited.

After a month of waiting again, people started to truly wonder if the demons were ever going to come. Most still stood at their posts waiting while the others started to slacken their postures and become impatient.

Even Celso started to huff in annoyance whenever he walked out of the monstrous academy and didn't see any change in the scenery. Today, he stood just outside the large double doors - staring at nothing - when he thought his eyes were deceiving him.

A silhouette of a woman appeared on the horizon. Celso knew without a doubt that that woman was Athena. His breath hitched in his throat when he saw her. She looked different to him. The way she walked wasn't her usual self. It was almost as if she was now a robot and someone was controlling her. He hoped that that thought was false and that it really was his Athena. His woman. But deep down he knew that it wasn't her.

Just to show that his theory was correct, a large demon came up behind her. He glared at the demon as he recognized who it was - King Buledal. The sun behind them began to set making Celso unable to see their faces, but he didn't stay around to wait. He turned and stormed inside yelling at the soldiers making them get ready for the battle that is about to take place.

Finally, he walked up the stairs to the top of the academy and walked out a door onto the roof. He came to where his friends stood and stopped beside them. Coleen gave him a strained smile before turning back and focusing her attention on the horde of demons marching towards them.

"Are you ready for this, Celso?" he heard Kassach ask beside him.

Celso nodded without looking at him. "I'm ready to get her back."

"They have the staff." Jay pushed out.

Celso hadn't noticed the first time, but now that the sun had set even more he could see the staff sitting firmly in Athena's hand. His heart dropped. Knowing what power she had inside of her and the power that the staff held, she was King Buledal's major weapon and could be used for mass destruction. His fists clenched at his sides when the thought of Athena being tortured until the dark magic came out of her.

He was going to get revenge for her. Even if he had to die getting it.

The horde of demons stopped meters away from the academy's doors. Celso watched as King Buledal looked up at the arrows and other forms of weapons pointing at him and his army. His mouth spread into an ugly smile as he started to laugh.

"Do you really think that these weapons can defeat me, Demon Hunters?" his voice boomed around the area.

Celso, a female voice whispered in his head. His head snapped up and looked around, but couldn't find the source of the voice. He thought he had recognized it, but couldn't figure it out.

"I have my own weapon that I can order right now and kill all of you," King Buledal's voice continued to circle around the men, women, and demons. At the sound of his voice, Athena's staff lit up and an earie glow started to surround her and King Buledal.

Celso, the voice came again making his heart jerk. He did know that voice. I'm still in me. I need you to help me come back.

He kept his back straight as he thought back to the voice hoping that she could hear him. How?

"I will give all of you one last chance to surrender to me and let me take over the world and I might spare most of you," Buledal continued.

"You know that is not an option, Demon!" Yong spoke up.

Celso snapped his head over at him and cocked his eyebrows. Yong - who still looked weak - never raised his voice and always wanted peace when he knew that there wasn't any. It surprised Celso now that he would be the one to raise his voice at King Buledal.

Buledal laughed and shook his head. "That's where you're wrong, boy. You do have the chance to surrender, but I was lying about letting most of you live. Why would I do that when I want this world to be only occupied by demons? It's either die now - and it will be a long and gruesome death - or die later where I can kill you much quicker."

The voice in Celso's head hadn't returned. How do I help you? Tell me, my love.

"I'll give you ten seconds to decide, Demon Hunters," Buledal sneered. "If you decide to fight, it will be gruesome and I will kill you all."

Athena.

"One."

Baby, answer me.

"Two. Three."

How do I help you?

"Four. Five. Six."

Celso took a deep breath and closed his eyes. He willed Athena to answer him. He had to know how to help her.

"Seven. Eight."

If that truly was Athena in his head, than she's still alive. He needed her to answer.

"Nine."

Athena! Please, answer me!

"Ten!"

Finally, her voice whispered into his mind making all his insides feel weak.

Kill me.
