Chapter Eight- The Promise

Derek was missing. Athena thought that he was with them the entire time, but apparently, he had wandered off on his own. Her hands started to shake as they walked from room to room looking for him. The last time Derek disappeared like this, he became possessed and tried to kill her and the Priest. Now, with no sign of Derek, she was afraid that the exact thing could happen again.

There was no sign of Derek upstairs, so she ran down the stairs and stopped at the bottom of the stairs. She tried to make up a decision, but she was freaking out too much she couldn't make one.

Celso came up behind her and took one of her hands. He led her down one of the corridors and at the end of it, they found Derek. He was taking pictures of a wall and didn't hear them come up.

"Derek!" Athena wrapped her arms around him. "Don't do that!"

"I thought you all were behind me," he chuckled.

Athena stood in front of her brother with her hands on her hips. "No, obviously not. When you found out that we weren't behind you, you didn't think of finding us?"

Derek shook his head. "Nope."

"Oh my gosh," Athena sighed. "For now on, we all stay together. Alright?" Both men nodded in agreement. Athena turned around on her heel and walked into the room on their right. She felt Celso grab her hand and they both walked into the room. Athena made sure that Derek was right behind them.

A few chairs were sitting on their sides thrown around the room. Derek took a lot of pictures as they walked around the chairs. Chills flew up Athena's arms and she shivered. She looked outside the window and noticed the sun was beginning to set. She remembered Celso telling her that he didn't want to be here when it was dark and she agreed with him. She didn't want to find out what could happen or who will come out at dark.

"Ready to go?" Celso calmly asked them.

Athena nodded and Derek shrugged. They walked out of the asylum and got back into the car. They were driving down the road when Derek popped his head up to the front seat and handed Athena the camera.

"Check this picture out," he excitedly told her.

Athena grabbed the camera and looked at the picture on the screen. It was a picture of one of the rooms in the building. It was a dark picture. There were debris everywhere and a lonely tub against one corner of the room. In the tub was a figure. Athena looked closer at the picture and saw that the figure was an older man. His face was contorted in pain. His body showed his many bones. He looked like he was forever left this way: in pain and left in a tub to perish.

Athena sighed and handed the camera back to Derek.

"Do you think we could use this picture in the paper?" Derek asked.

Athena shrugged. "Maybe. The people will want to see pictures like these. Especially if they remember the article about Sarton."

"What happened at Sarton?" Celso asked.

Athena looked at him and contemplated on telling him what had happened. She leaned back in her seat and began to tell him the story. When she was finished, she noticed that his knuckles were white from holding the steering wheel too tight. She grabbed one of his hands and pried it off the wheel. She gave it a tight squeeze and gave him an encouraging look. "I'm fine, Celso."

"Someone should have been there to protect you," he grumbled.

"I had Derek."

"Not at first," he spoke. "Besides, he got possessed and tried to kill you." The grip on her hand tightened a little.

"I didn't do it on purpose," Derek grumbled in the back.

Celso sighed. "I know that. No one ever gets possessed on purpose." He took a deep breath and slowly let it out.

The car became quiet as they continued down the road back towards Florence. Eventually, they arrived in Florence and parked the car back where they found it.

"I'm going back to the hotel," Derek told them while shouldering his camera. "I need to get these pictures on the computer before I forget." He gave Athena a kiss on the cheek before walking away.

Celso held onto Athena's hand and started to pull her in one direction. "Come on, let me give you a tour of my favorite spot in Florence."

Athena giggled and followed him. She wrapped her arm around his and enjoyed being in his company. Everything's happening so fast and Athena didn't know completely what was happening. All she knew was that she was happy with him. Even if it is a pull and she truly didn't have any choice in what she felt, she wouldn't have it any other way.

The sun had almost disappeared when they arrived at the place Celso was talking about. It was a park. A large open grass area was before them with a large fountain in the middle. Celso led her through the grass towards a spot and sat down. He pulled her down beside him.

Athena leaned her head against his should as they watched the rest of the sun fall down and disappear. Athena began to play with Celso's fingers as they sat in a comfortable silence. Everything around them was dark and Athena was certain that there weren't too many people in the park with them.

She picked her head up and took her phone out of her pocket. There was a message from Derek, but that was all. She ignored the message when she felt a pair of lips connect to her neck. Celso's arm pulled her closer as he continued to place kisses down her neck. She turned around and straddled his waist. She connected their lips and roughly kissed him.

Athena wanted this. Celso was the one for her. They formed together. They were perfect together. She truly believed that he was the one for her. He promised he would protect her and she believed that. She never gave it any real doubt that he wouldn't. He could take her right now and she wouldn't care.

Their make-out session was interrupted by a growl. Athena looked down at her stomach and realized that it was hers.

Darn all these interruptions, she thought angrily to herself.

Celso laughed and stood up with her in his arms. "Let's get you something to eat." He kissed her before placing her on her feet and leading her out of the park.

"You know," Athena started. "The bad guy persona isn't working for you."

Celso laughed again and shrugged his shoulders. "I don't know what you're talking about."

"Do you not remember?" Athena teased. "The morning we met, you pinned me up against a wall and told me that I should stay away from you. You were acting all 'bad boy.' I did stay away from you, but you didn't."

Celso smiled. "Yes, I remember."

"Why didn't you follow your advice? And don't start talking to me about the pull."

Celso smirked and pulled her into an alleyway. He pinned her up against the wall and leaned his face closer to hers. "Because, I fell for you the first day I met you and I couldn't stay away. I'll be honest, if it wasn't for the pull helping me find you, I'd still try to find you anyway." He leaned down and kissed her.

Athena's heart melted at his words. She wrapped her arms around his neck and pulled him even closer to her.

Suddenly, a side door opened up and both of them jumped. A small, plump lady came out of the door screaming at them in Italian. She held up a wooden spoon and looked like she was threatening to hit them with it.

Celso pushed Athena behind him and out of the alleyway while putting his hands up and speaking something to her in her language. Whatever he said seemed to calm the lady down as she lowered her spoon and placed her hands on her hips. She gave them a tight nod before watching them exit the alleyway and resuming their walk on the sidewalk.

Both of them started to laugh when they thought that they were out of hearing. Celso wrapped an arm around her shoulders and pulled her towards him. Once he had calmed his laughter, he leaned down and pressed a kiss on her temple.

"All that I said was true," he assured her.

They stopped outside a little restaurant and were seated instantly. They ordered their food and waited for it to come. Once the food had arrived, they quickly ate their food and left the restaurant.

They walked hand-in-hand through the city until they came to the hotel. Celso took her up to her room and stood outside her door. She opened it up and turned to him. She smiled and grabbed his hand. She pulled him inside and shut the door behind them.

Celso walked over to the TV and began to flip through the channels. He backed up until he was sitting on the bed. Athena sat down next to him and brought her knees up to her chest. A million things were running through her mind at that moment. Did Celso really mean what he had told her? Or was he just saying it because he had too?

"Celso?"

"Mhmm?"

Athena paused. "Do you believe in love at first sight?"

Celso looked at her and put the remote down. He pulled her towards him and placed her on his lap. He brushed a strand hair from her face. "Of course I do. I already told you. When I first met you, I fell for you. There's nothing or no one that will lead me away from you."
