Chapter 3, Two People- MIA

"No, Heather is not here," I answered, then added, "Is she with you?"

"Are you Sabrina?" he asked, a menacing look on his face.

"No. I'm not. Do you know where Heather is?" I asked him, a bit aggrivated that he didn't answer my question.

"No. Why do you think I asked you?" he asked freshly while trying to peek behind me. He was either looking for his daughter or Sabrina. So he either thinks we're lying about her not being here or he's about ready to murder Sabrina for mouthing off to his wife.

"Look sir, if you came here to be rude than you can most certainly leave," I said sharply.

"Where is Sabrina?" he demanded. Not asked... demanded. Now I'm a little scared. Just look at the muscles on him! You can see them right through his gray work suit. (Oh no! I fogot, he's a freakin' lawyer!)

"She's... uhhh... Inside?" I tried.

"Ha! Nice try! You think you can fool me? Bring her here or I'm coming in!" he challenged.

"Don't you need a search warran-" He cut me off.

"YOU DON'T NEED A SEARCH WARRANT FOR PEOPLE!" he shouted.

"Well fine then," I said. I turned to Renee. "Could you please get Sabrina?" I asked her.

She nodded and walked towards the kitchen. We waited in silence, cold, hard stares went on between me and Mr. Donner (Heather's father).

Renee came back, dragging Sabrina by the arm while she was muttering, "Renee, can you please tell me who is at the door?"

When we reached Sabrina's line of sight she dug her toes into the ground to stop Renee from moving her farther, which caused the effect of Renee falling to the floor. Whitney ran over and helped her up. I just stood there, trying to surpress giggles while Mr. Donner stood tapping his foot on the cement steps of the entryway.

"Uhh. Mr. Donner," stuttered Sabrina. "What a nice surprise." Everyone knows Sabrina is terrified of him because he once had a case against her family. They lost a lot of money that day.

"Where is my daughter?" he asked. Sabrina let out a sigh of relief, happy that there wouldn't be a new trial against her family.

"She never arrived," she said simply.

"Are you sure of this?" he asked.

"Yes. Heather Donner did not step foot in this house today," replied Sabrina smartly.

"Okay. And you're sure?" he asked again, worry about his daughter's whereabouts lining his features.

"Yes I'm sure!" snapped Sabrina.

"Okay. I'll just be going then." And he turned and agiley hopped down the couple steps that lead to the door.

"Well that was simple," I said as I shut the door.

"Yes. It was," answered Sabrina distantly, probably wondering where her lost friend is.

"Okay girls!" said Sabrina's mom, walking out from the kitchen. She was probably trying to avoid Mr. Donner. "I'm heading out now to go buy some extra food and drink. I'll be back in about an hour. Maybe a little more." She walked to Sabrina and hugged her. "Bye, baby. Happy birthday."

"Bye, mum," said Sabrina and the door was reopened as Sabrina's mother left.

I heard a car engine start, then another one. I also heard, "Get out of my driveway, Donner! Or I'll run you over!"

I heard an engine rev along with a fading, "That would be a terrible lawsuitttttttt."

We burst into laughter. I love Sabrina's mom.

"Okay. So what should we do next?" asked Sabrina. "I think we might need to count on Heather not being here."

"Let's play Twister!" shreaked Sara happily.

"Yeah!" we echoed. So Sabrina got out Twister and we set it up and started to play.

I lost every time. I'm no good at balance. So I was stuck as being the spinner/ref this round.

"Hey! Nina!" I called. "You are out! I said left hand or red, not right foot on blue!"

"Aw nuts!" she cried and untangled herself from Sara.

She sat on the couch next to me. So far, she was the only one out for this round.

After a couple spins she said to me, "Hey, Chrissa, I'm gonna go to the bathroom. Be back in five."

"Okay. Have fun," I said jokingly. She smiled, stood up, and unwrinkled her flowy top. Then she walked off.

Three rounds later/twenty minutes later, I was stuck as the spinner again. I suddenly remembered something. "Guys," I began. Everyone looked at me. I burst into laughter upon seeing Sabrina having a hand stuck under Nikki's foot. "Okay, okay." I composed myself. "Where's Nina? She said she was going to the bathroom a little while ago. She's not back yet," I said, worry framing my face.

Everyone was interupted by Whitney saying, "Guys. Can't. Hold. It. Any. Longer." And she collapsed onto Sara who caused the chain reaction of Renee falling sideways into Nikki. Nikki's hand shot out from under Sabrina's foot which made her fall. Sabrina's foot went flailing up into Missy's forhead, knocking her into the couch, which made me drop the spinner on her head.

That was a sight to see. Everyone had tear tracks and laugh lines marking their faces after an awkward silence.

"O-o-okay," I stuttered through giggles. "Let's see if Nina is fine. Yes?" I asked.

"Yeah," mumbled everyone from the ground. Renee and Sara were the first to become untangled, so we headed down the elegant hallway to the bathroom.

I knocked on the wooden door.

No answer.

"Nina?" I called through the side. "You in there?"

No answer.

"Maybe she went to the one upstairs?" asked Renee.

"Yeah... Maybe... But why would she walk all the way up the stairs just to use the bathroom?" I asked. It didn't make sense.

"Maybe for the exercise?" guessed Sara.

"Yes. I'm sure the stick needs exercise," I said sarcastically.

"Well it was a good guess..." she mumbled. So our little crew went upstairs.

"Nina?" I repeated while giving the door three taps.

No answer.

I banged with my fist.

No answer.

"NINA!" I shouted.

No answer.

Then, the lights went out.

I screamed and heard identical ones downstairs.

I heard Sabrina's voice from downstairs, "EVERYONE CALM DOWN. I HAVE A LIST ON MY PHONE WILL EVERYONE'S NAMES ON IT. WHEN I CALL YOUR NAME, SAY HERE!"

"Okay," was said by several girls.

"SABRINA... Oh wait, that's me..." A pause. "MISSY!"

"Here!"

"RENEE!"

"Still here!"

"NIKKI!"

"Alive!"

"CHRISSA!"

"Upstairs!"

"SARA!"

"Yup!"

"WHITNEY!"

"Present!"

"HEATH... Oh wait..." Another pause. "NINA!"

No answer.

"NINA, YOU HERE?"

Still no reply.

The lights flickered and came on again.

Everyone sighed in relief.

"GUYS! COME DOWN HERE. WE NEED TO ALL BE TOGETHER IF WE LOSE ELECTRICITY AGAIN!" And the three of us ran down the stairs as fast as our feet would take us.

"Was Nina up there?" asked Sabrina.

"No. Well, she didn't answer me when I pounded on the door," I replied.

"I suppose we'll have to go in, then. We'll try the upstairs floor first. Come on girls. Come with me to get the key." We followed Sabrina up to her parent's room where she extracted a key from a drawer. We then walked to the bathroom in unison.

Sabrina stuck the key in the knob and turned it. The room was empty. There were no windows so she couldn't of done something ridiculous like jump out one to committ suicide.

"Oh wait..." began Sabrina. "The door wasn't even locked! She must of went to the one downstairs.

We all ran down the stairs. The power flickered a few times but the house stayed bright.

Sabrina fiddled with the key in the knob for a minute until the door swung open, errily squeaking.

The sight that met our eyes sent horror through our brains, shivers down our spines, and prickles through our skin.
