Chapter 5
Chad pulls out of the driveway, and speeds towards his house. Oh no oh no oh no! Walking down the street is Matt, he's probably looking for me.
"Chad! Chad!" I exclaim, scared to death. "Alex, what's wrong?" I point, I can't say anything, or the tears will spill out of my eyes.
Chad looks, "Oh my! How did he find us?" I shrug, he didn't put a tracker on my laptop did he?
Fallon is sitting there confused, "Who is he?" She asks.
"My ex, who constantly abused me," I say, tears streaming down my face.
"Chad, don't let him near me!" I almost scream at him. "Don't worry, kid, I won't. I've got to do something though. He'll recognize me."
"We could always call the police," Fallon suggests. "Yes! Great idea! Do that!" Chad exclaims. Fallon pulls out here phone, and calls 911.
Chad drives in circles around the block, Matt is still at the door.
"The police are on their way," she says sitting back. Ok, now I'm scared! He'll know it was me, and make me even more miserable than now.
"Chad," I ask, "what if Matt makes my life even more miserable because of this?"
"Alex, he's not going anywhere near you. I'll make sure of it myself," he says. And I actually believe he will. I would ask him about God right now, but Fallon's here. She's awesome, but I'd like to talk to him when it's just us.
Chad and Fallon are whispering amongst themselves. I really just need some reassuring, hmm maybe I can text one of the guys. But who?
Joey. He seems to know what he's talking about. I pull out my phone, and open the messaging app.
I quickly type, 'Yo! This is Alex.'
Almost instantly my phone pings with a reply, 'What up, girl?' He must say that a lot.
'Just need some reassuring about something.'
'What is it? You know I'm here for you.' Man, he's sweet.
I decide to type a single word, 'God.'
'God? What about him?' Joey says, or types.
'I mean, is he real?'
I have to stop texting him now, an unmarked police car pulls up by Chad's place. An officer gets out, and walks towards Matt.
"Kiddo, stay in the car. Fallon and I will be back," Chad orders. I smile, "Aye-aye cap'n."
I peek cautiously out the window, as the officer puts my ex-boyfriend in handcuffs. He puts him in the back of the car, and turns to Chad and Fallon. He says a few things to them, then drives away.
Chad and Fallon come back over. "Thanks for holding down the fort," Chad says, grinning like a maniac. "Anytime," I smile nervous. "Let's take your new clothes inside," Fallon suggests.
I slip my phone into my pocket, and begin helping them carry stuff. After about 4 trips, everything is safely in my room.
"I'm gonna make some hot chocolate," Fallon says leaving the room. Chad tries to follow her, but I stop him. "Chaddy, I need to ask you something." I pat the bed next to me, "Sit."
He sits next to me, "Okay, shoot."
"How do you know God is real?" I ask.
It's hard to read his facial expression, "I'm constantly reminded. The clouds, the beautiful flowers, none of them could've happened without God."
I smile, "My brother used to tell me, no matter what happened in the past, no matter what mistakes you've made, God will always love you."
"He was right, "Chad nods, "I'll talk to you more about it later. You might want to get some sleep."
"I'll be right back." I grab some of my new pajamas, and go to the bathroom to change. I come back, and Chad is sitting on my bed.
He helps me situate the blankets, before leaving. "Sleep tight, kiddo."
I smile, "Chad, am I going back to school?" I haven been to school in forever.
"We'll talk about it tomorrow. Now go to sleep." He says forcing me to lay back down.
"I love you, Chad. Thanks for everything." He smiles, "Love you, too. You're welcome."
I slowly drift off into a heavy sleep.
Chad's POV
After helping Alex settle in, I go to my room. "Hey," Fallon says, I sit next to her on the bed.
"Fallon, Alex, she's so young! We have to help her. She just asked me about God, and she's asking about school," I sigh.
She rubs my back, "We'll just pray and ask God to show us the right way." I nod, "Yeah, I guess you're right."
