Chapter 13

"Lunchtime!" Alan calls out. "Yes!" Joey exclaims. "Can we go to Chick-Fil-A?" Caleb asks. Chad shakes his head, "Let's go to Cracker Barrel!" Alan agrees with Chad. "Cracker Barrel it is!" Caleb exclaims.

"Come on beautiful, let's go," Alan says, grabbing my hand. I giggle, and follow him to the car.

I've never been to Cracker Barrel before, so I don't know what to expect. We walk inside and I instantly fall in love, it's a little country store in the front of the restaurant.

I walk around looking, everything is so pretty. Soon I stop, there's this necklace that's absolutely gorgeous. It's a silver infinity sign pendant with gems going all up the necklace chain.

I check the price tag then walk away, and try to forget it. I couldn't afford it anyways.

The thought of the necklace won't leave my mind, I feel drawn to it. I walk over to where Chad and Alan are looking at candy.

"Hey honey, find anything you like?" Chad asks. I want to shake my head, but I nod.

"Awesome! Go get it, so I can pay for it!" Alan says. I walk over to where the necklace is, I pick up one of the boxes and walk back over to them.

Chad pulls the box from my hand, and looks at the necklace. "Alex, it's beautiful!" He says. Him and Alan check the price tag, after Alan whispers something to Chad he hands me the box.

"I don't think we can afford that, kiddo," Chad says. I nod, and walk to put the necklace back. I should've known, it's really expensive.

"Powell party of 5, Powell party of 5," a lady says over the loudspeaker. I rush just in time to join them at the table.

"I'll be back. Let me use the bathroom," Chad says, standing.

I sit down next to Caleb, and Joe. I begin reading the menu, everything sounds delicious I can't decide.

Chad returns with a suspicious smile on his face. I try to ignore it and just focus on what I should order. Finally, I decide on chicken and dumplings with corn and carrots, and lemonade to drink.

We all begin eating, this is so delicious. I'm officially in love with this place.

"Alex, honey?" Chad says. I look up from my food, "Yes." He stands up and moves behind my chair.

"Close your eyes," he says. I take my hands, and cover my eyes. I soon feel something cold on my neck. I open my eyes and see the necklace.

"Oh my gosh Chad! I love you so much!" I exclaim, hugging him. I hear a chorus of 'aaaaws' come from the table.

"You guys are the sweetest," Caleb gushes. "I want to have this relationship with the girls when they get older," Alan comments.

"I love you too," Chad whispers, walking back over to sit down.

I push the food around on my plate suddenly losing my appetite. Why? It's because of who is at the table next to us, it's Matt.

"Uh guys, can we just go back to the studio?" I ask, blinking back tears. "But Alex, we haven't finished eating, there's no rush," Joey says.

I whimper moving closer to Caleb. "What's the matter, beautiful?" Alan asks. I burst into tears, and point in Matt's direction.

"No!" Chad exclaims, "Don't worry, honey, he can't hurt you now!" I bury my face in Caleb's shoulder, staining his shirt in tears.

He strokes my hair, "Don't worry kiddo, I'm right here." He holds me, allowing me to cry. Joey calls the police, while Alan talks to a few employees. Chad, however, is nowhere in sight.

I try to calm myself down, by singing that one song, Boomerang in my head. It doesn't work.

I look up at Caleb. "C-could you sing to me?" I ask him. He nods, "Any song requests?"

"Boomerang." Caleb nods, and begins singing softly, where only I can hear him. Fresh tears roll down my face, as Caleb sings the song that changed my life.

"It was beautiful, Caleb," I compliment after the song is finished. He grins, "Thanks. It's a pretty emotional song."

What if I never met Chad? What if I still lived with Matt? What if my parents actually loved me? What if I had a normal life? What if Matt was actually nice?

All these questions flood my mind. Soon, I see police enter the restaurant. They approach us.

"Excuse me," one if them says. "Do you know where Matthew Williams is?" The other asks. Caleb points to where Matt sits. They walk over to him.

"Caleb?" I ask, again. "Yeah, kiddo," Caleb replies. "Could we get outside? I just don't wanna be in here."

Caleb nods, "Let's go to the car." I pull out my phone, and text Chad, Alan, and Joe telling them I'm in the car.

I get in the backseat, and lay down. Caleb puts on an Anthem Lights CD, and hums along quietly.

I hear a song play that I've never heard before, I really like it.

"Caleb, whats this song called?" I call out. "Help You Stand," he replies. I smile, that's an awesome title.

Soon Joey, and Alan join us. "Hey girl!" Joey says. I sit up and make room for him in the backseat.

"W-Where's Chad?" I ask him. "He's still in there talking to the police, he'll be here soon," he responds.

"You okay?" Alan asks. I nod, "Caleb did a good job of calming me down." Caleb grins, "Glad to help."

"Alex, we still have a few things to do at the studio. Would you mind if we went back?" Alan asks. I shrug, "You guys do whatever you want to."

Chad now joins us. "I took care of it, honey, he's not gonna hurt you anymore. The police took him away," he assures me. I smile, "Thanks Chaddy." He smirks, "Don't mention it."

We head back to the studio. I chill on the couch, and listen to them sing. They're absolutely the best band in the world.

Soon, they're done and it's time to go home. We get home, and see that Fallon must've invited Brycie, Avery, and Presley over.

"Hey babe," Fallon says, kissing Chad's cheek. I walk over to Brycie and the girls.

"Hello Alex," Brycie greets me. I smile, "Hey." She gives me a hug, and I crouch down to the girls' level.

They smile, and wave at me. "You guys wanna play a prank on Chad?" I ask. They giggle, and I motion for them to keep quiet. We gather up a few supplies, and then go up to my bedroom to prepare the prank.
