"They slip unnoticed through the crowds as they feast on human flesh."

The ally was dark as a missing poster of Hideyoshi Nagachika is shown before it shows Akira Mado, now with long hair, as she looks at the sky.

"They take on their appearance. But are different from mere mortals."

A cloaked figure stands on top of a tower as he over looks the city. Arima is now shown as his squad charges in.

"Humans call these beings..."

Haise Sasaki over looks the city now.

"Ghouls."

A man rides in a cab, with his earphones in his ears as his brief case was on the floor. This man was Kuki Urie - Rank 2 Investigator and the Quinx squad leader. Behind him a man rode on his motorcycle as he followed the car and smiled. Inside the car Urie pulled out his earphones.

"Stop the car."

"You want to get off here?"

"I'm a ghoul investigator." Urie said as he showed the man his badge, "You thought you could wash it off, did you?" Urie said as his face was close the his, "The scent of blood..." Urie said as the mans eyes widened and stepped on the gas pedal as he crashed the car, but Urie jumped out in time and landed on his feet. The ghoul used his Kugane to break out of the car and aimed for him, but he jumped out of the way.

'A kugane.' he thought as he looked at the ghoul.

The ghoul growled as he stepped forward, but Urie pressed the button on his brief case and it transformed into a sword.

"That's your Quinque, is it?" The ghoul said as Urie charged forward and the ghoul used his kugane to attack him. Urie used his Quinque to block another blow.

'A-rated. Or perhaps, B...' Urie thought. as the ghoul attack again, but he blocked it, 'Not Torso, at any rate.'

Urie's Quinque was then knocked out of his hand.

"You're unarmed now, human. I'll sup on your flesh. Let's taste you then!" The ghoul said as he sprinted, but Urie made no movements as he stood still. But he was struck with blades, Urie turned to see another man, and blood dripped from his cut.

"Little Urie." He said, this man was Ginshi Shirazu, Rank 3 Investigator.

"Shirazu." Urie said as pointed to the cut on his cheek, "You hit me with that attack..."

'You'd best stay out of my way.' Urie thought.

"Hey, what happened to your Quinque? Does it need repairing, maybe?" Shirazu asked as he walked in front of Urie and smiled, "Come on squad leader. You can do better then that..."

"Shirazu." Urie said as Shirazu stopped smiling and looked at him.

"Huh?" Shirazu asked as he was suddenly struck in the stomach with a kugane and lifted up into the air as Urie moved out of the way.

"Rest in peace." Urie said as Shirazu was pushed against the road, with the Kugane still pierced through him. The ghoul smiled, but it quickly faded as Shirazu smiled, blood coming out of the corner of hid mouth as he placed is hands on the Kugane.

"Yaffy!" Shirazu said as his right eye turned into a kakugan and Urie ran forward.

"You punks are both...ghouls?"

Urie's kugane came from his left arm as his left eye turned into a kakugan.

'The Quinx squad...' Urie thought as the ghoul freaked out and Urie pierced his kugane through him, 'Have the same abilities you do.' the ghoul landed on the ground as Urie's kugane disappeared.

"That still counts as mine, you know." Shirazu said.

"Get real. I finished this one off, myself."

"We'll call it team work, then." Shirazu said as he walked up to him.

"You were tailing me and ambushed my mark, more like!"

"That hit of yours would've done nothing, if it hadn't been for me."

A women then appeared before the scene, her short black hair flowing behind her as her black heels clicked on the ground. She stopped and placed a hand on her hip. Watching the two bicker as she noticed the ghouls kugane coming out, she grabbed her sword and sprinted forward.

"You really can talk a--" But he was stopped as another figure came in and used his Quinque to block the attack, the woman slowed down and sighed as she walked over to the three.

"Don't drop your guard." He said, this man was Haise Sasaki.

"I had that, you know." The woman said as she approached them. This woman was Mira Hisaki, Rank 1 Investigator and guardian of the Quinx Squad, along with Haise.

"You really did not." Haise said.

"I really did. I was about to attack when you came out of nowhere."

Haise smiled as he looked down.

"You're right, I'm sorry."

"Yeah whatever." Mira said as she walked over to Shirazu and Urie.

"H-Hisaki..." Shirazu said nervously as Mira grabbed them both by the ears.

"You idiots! Quit bickering on the battle fields!"

"It appears the ghoul Urie and his friend from Mado Squad were tailing him last night was not, in fact, Torso." A man said as Investigators sat around a table, a few being, Haise Sasaki, Mira Hisaki and Akira Mado, "In any case, Torso is under my investigation. And we'd be obliged if Mado Squad focused their attention elsewhere. I fact, I heard that a recent case which lasted for days, into suspected howling form ghouls, turned out to be nothing more than a stray dog." A man said, and this man was Nobu Shimoguchi, First Class Investigator.

"I guess we have been a bit sloppy lately." Haise smiled, Haise was a Rank 1 Investigator as well and Quinx Squad Mentor.

"This is no laughing matter, Sasaki." Shimoguchi said as Haise straightened up, "These so called Quinx lackeys you've got working under you, do nothing but eat into the budget, with very little reward to show for it.

"Sir, if I may exp--" But Mira was quickly cut off.

"-That aside. the idea of including these half human half ghoul freaks in our investigation...You didn't even finish off that taxi driver last night, am I right?" Shimoguchi asked, "What reason could you have for allowing that bottom feeder to live?"

"That's not what--" But Haise was cut off.

"Do I sense you two getting soft on these ghouls? That wouldn't be so surprising for you two, I guess--" Shimoguchi stopped as Mira glared at him.

"I'm not going soft, sir." She spoke as he said nothing and continued.

"You are a ghoul, and you did work for ghouls after---" But Akira cut him off.

"First Class Investigator Shimoguchi. I'm the one in charge of training our subordinates. I will have him explain himself, later."

"First Class Investigator Mado! Perhaps your so called training is lacking? I will say it again, Torso is under my investigation."

'How's that going for you?' Mira thought.

"Watching your investigation progress at such a snails pace, I couldn't help but send out a life raft with a little aid."

"I've had enough of your--"

"Investigators Shimoguchi and Mado. That will be quite enough." First Class Investigator Take Hirako spoke, "The Shimoguchi and Mado squads are to cooperate in solving this case. My Hirako Squad will keep tracking the Serpent. That concludes today's meeting."

Mira walked in front of Mado and Haise, but she stopped upon hearing Haise grunt and fall, she can only assume that he received a Mado punch.

"Leave naivety at the door when you fight. That kindness of yours is going to get you killed. If you're going to be a mentor you need to be tougher." Akira said as Haise looked up, "Your lack of guile affects the rest of the Quinx team. Stop protecting ghouls! If you don't want another Mado punch, that is. That goes for you too Mira." Akira said as Mira nodded her head.

"Mado punch..." Haise said.

"Anyway, just make sure you find Torso before Shimoguchi does. Or the Serpent, I don't care which one. Special Investigator Arima and I have high hopes for you two." Akira said as she walked away.

"He does...?" Haise asked.

Mira sighed as she walked over to Haise, she stuck her hand out for him to grab, once he did she pulled him up as he smiled down at her.

"Don't worry Haise, I'll toughen you up." Mira said as she patted his arm.

"You...are the Serpent?"

"The Serpent? Is that what they call me now?"

"Why do you ghouls hurt us anyways." The man asked as the Serpent approached him.

"And why would I explain myself to some worm who's about to die? Tell me. Have you heard of a ghoul going by the name of Torso?"

"Never heard of him...I'm..."

"Okay. Well, say goodnight, then." The Serpent said as he walked forward and the man screamed in pain.

"Squad leader...I know you can hear me." Shirazu said as he walked behind Urie, "Sassan told us we needed to pull together as a team, remember?"

"I'm not planning on taking orders from Sasaki and Hisaki for much longer. I making sure I quickly get promoted to S3." Urie said.

"What the hell is 'S3'?"

"You don't need to know. Just make sure you stay out of my way."

"And what makes you think I take orders from you? D'you wanna settle this here?" Shirazu said as he stopped walking.

'I'm the squad leader, here. You take orders from me.' Urie thought.

"Fine by me." Urie said as his eye turned to a kakugan. But before the two could fight a snap from a camera was heard, causing the two to turn around.

"You two are after the ghoul Torso, right?"

The two then saw a short brunette holding her camera in her hands, "How would you like a lead?"

A man grunted as his blood was drawn.

"Still can't handle it eh, Mutsuki...?"

"I can't help it..." Rank 3 Investigator Tooru Mutsuki said. He had an eyepatch over his eye, since he couldn't control his kakugan yet, "The sight of my blood just turns my stomach.

"And can you unleash your kugane, yet?"

"Not quite..."

"So, how are things going in the Quinx Squad?"

"Everyone's still pretty laid back, actually..." Mutsuki smiled.

"I can see that. No one apart from you and Urie bother attending these check ups." Dr. Ryotaro Shiba, a Quinx Physician, said.

"I'll pass on the message." Mutsuki said as he stood up and put his white coat on.

"That'd be great help."

Mutsuki walked out of the room and closed the door behind him.

"Who listens to anything I say, though?" Mutsuki said as he walked off.

"Chie Hori. You're 24 years old?" Urie read off of her drivers license as Hori nodded her head

"I sell photographs and the information that goes with it."

"And just what have you got on Torso, then?" Urie asked.

"A picture of Torso taking another victim." She said as handed them the picture.

"It's not free, you know." Hori said as she stacked the plate.

"Well then, let's hear your price." Urie said.

"One million." Hori said as the two's eyes widened.

"Or...A personal item that belongs to Haise Sasaki and Mira Hisaki."

"The remaining information will be released upon payment, she says..." Urie said as he and Shirazu sat down.

"Let's just tell Sassan and get her his underwear." Shirazu said as Urie shook his head.

"What? Why not?"

"Shirazu, you need the money, right?"

"What's that got to do with it?"

"Sasaki and Hisaki are our mentors. If we give up our lead and capture Torso, as a team operation, the squad as a whole will be given credit for its success."

"Well that's norm--"

"You don't get it, do you? Depending on how they present the information. Sasaki and Hisaki could take full credit for themselves."

"That's be totally underhanded!"

"That's right, it would be. You need the cash, right? So, you need to be promoted, and fast. To get there, you need to take the glory."

"But, how do we do that?"

"By working alone. By taking the glory, not for the squad, but for ourselves. It's the quickest way to get where you want to be." Urie said as Shirazu looked down.

"I hear ya...I'll do it. I'm not letting Hisaki or Sassan...I mean Sasaki get in my way, anymore!"

"Well said..."

"Where are Urie and Shirazu?" Haise asked as he stirred the pot of stew.

"Uh, they went looking for Torso." Mutsuki replied as he leaned on the counter.

"Out acting on their own, huh? What about Saiko?" Haise asked.

"Probably playing some game in her room." Mutsuki said.

"Jeez..." Mira muttered as she brought bowls to the table.

"Saiko, dinner!" Haise called upstairs.

"Okay..."

Mira sighed as she sat next to Haise and Mutsuki sat across from him, the three looked down.

"Thank you for the mean." Mutsuki said.

"Right, go ahead." Haise said as Mutsuki took a bite.

"It's delicious."

"Thank goodness." Haise smiled.

"Jeez, Haise, if I didn't know any better, I'd say you'd make a perfect house wife." Mira said as she took a bite of her meal as Haise just laughed, until the door opened and Shirazu and Urie walked in.

"Welcome back. Dinner is ready--"

"No thanks." Shirazu said as Mira frowned.

"Huh? Uh, Urie, about the investigation..." Haise asked as Urie dropped receipts onto the table.

"Don't concern yourself. We'll arrest Torso all by ourselves. Please reimburse those receipts." Urie said as he walked off, Mira growled as she stood up.

"Ungrateful little brats! I'll show them..." Mira growled as Haise grabbed her arm to stop her and he sighed.

"They're going to insist on solo investigations to the bitter end. Okay, fine..." Haise said as he clenched his fist.

"Let your inner evil out, Haise!" Mira cheered as Mutsuki sweat dropped at his mentors behavior.

"Looks like we need to show them that Sasaki and Hisaki mean business, huh?" Haise said as a red aura surround him as Mira cackled evilly.

"Teach?"

"Let's go Mutsuki and Hisaki! We're going to rein in Torso! Even quicker then Urie and Shirazu can!"

"R-Right!"

"Love the determination! I'm in!"

"Just you watch, you young pups! You, too, Senior Investigator Shimoguchi! I'll show you what Sasaki's got!" Haise said as he pumped his fist into the air as Mira clapped.

Meanwhile at Cochlea in the 23rd Ward Ghoul Internment Center.

'Donato Porpora, commonly known as the priest. SS-rated. As I remember, he's the one who predated on the orphans in his care.' Mutsuki thought as he Sasaki and Hisaki stood in front of the glass, looking at Porpora.

"You're here with a newcomer today, Hisaki and Sasaki?" He said as he brought his face closer to the glass, causing Mutsuki to take a step back in fear, "Looks very tasty. So this is a Quinx, is it? I'd like to indulge myself by splitting open your belly, and stuffing my mouth with the innards that come spilling out." Porpora said as Mutsuki stepped back and Mira and Haise stepped in front of him, "So, what brings you here today?"

"It concerns a ghoul named Torso." Haise said as he brought out his tablet and brought a map projection out.

"His predation sites are spread out over a fairly wide area." Mira said.

"His victims are all female. All of them have had their torsos taken." Haise said.

"I see. A torso nut, huh? Moving around this broad an area, he's using a car to perpetrate his crimes, isn't he?"

"Yes." Haise said.

"Why are his sites so spread out? Is he afraid of being identified? If so, your ghoul is hiding his identity to blend in with the human society. He's also quite familiar with the roads. A taxi driver." Porpora said as his eyes widened and he grinned.

'Urie had figured that out...' Haise and Mira thought.

The driver of the taxi started to drive off.

"I have a message from Aogiri Tree, Mr. Torso."

"Message?"

"You're eating too much . The doves apparently have their eyes on you." The young female said, her short light brown hair framing her face.

"CCG, huh?"

"Have you ever heard the name, 'Quinx'?"

"No."

"They, though human, are said to use the abilities of ghouls. Be extra careful." This girl was none other than Hinami Fueguchi.

'Quinx, huh? They almost sound like big brother.'

"Mr. Sass's underpants! And Miss Hisaki's shirt!" Shirazu said as Hori examined the two items and sniffed them, "Don't worry. We brought them clean, they've already been washed and dried."

"Okay, in return, here's this." Hori said as she handed them a picture.

"What is it?" Shirazu asked.

"A photo that was left near the scene. It shows the victim, see?" Hori said as the two grabbed the picture to examine them, "I think it's one that Torso took. This film is from overseas, and you can only get it from a few places." She said as she brought out another picture to show them, "And this is a costumer who buys this kind of film in bulk. Karao Saeki. Occupation..."

Mutsuki sighed as he sat down on a bench outside and a memory ran through his mind.

A cup of coffee sat on the table.

"Appendix operation scars, C-section scars, scars from being injured..." Haise began as Mira sat next to him and Mutsuki a crossed from Haise, as the three sat at a table in an empty café.

"Something the victims all have in common are scars on their torsos." Mira said.

"But he wouldn't know whether they have any scars before he attacks them." Mutsuki said.

"Look at this." Haise said as he showed a map.

"Torso's predation sites enter on the hospitals his victims visited, and radiate outward from them." Mira said as the white house were shown as red spread over them.

"Let's split up and check the hospitals. Ah, but is you see anyone fishy, don't do anything on your own. " Haise said.

'No choice but to do this the hard way.' Mutsuki thought.

Mutsuki looked across the a crossed the street and saw a cab driver, and a woman approach the cab, Mutsuki's eyes widened as he saw a sinister smile cross the cab drivers face. He got up and ran over.

"Excuse me! I'm hopping in!" Mutsuki said as he cut in front of the woman.

"It's wall-to-wall within the city, huh?" Shirazu asked as Urie sat behind him as he drove his motorcycle through the busy streets.

"Yeah."

'Shut up and keep looking, you halfwit.' Uri thought.

Urie then noticed that he was getting an emergency call from Mutsuki, saying that he made contact with Torso.

"Mutsuki had made contact with Torso?!" Urie said.

"Huh? Where?"

"Make a U-turn." Urie ordered as Shirazu quickly turned the bike around and sped off.

The cab stopped as the light turned red, and the driver tapped his finger on the wheel.

"Sir..." The cab driver said as Mutsuki looked up, only for the driver to reach back and grab his neck, causing Mutsuki to freak out, "Sir...which are you?" he asked as Mutsuki struggled.

"Step on it!" Urie said.

"That would be a moving violation!"

"Then let it be!" Urie said as they sped through the traffic.

Mutsuki was still struggling against the cab driver, who was identified as Torso. Mutsuki brought his arms up and pushed Torso's arms away from his neck and proceeded by kneeing him in the stomach.

"S-Sir!" Torso yelled as he was quickly cut, he looked up in surprise to see that Mutsuki had two blades in is hands, "A dove?!" Torso said as he threw his hand forward, only for Mutsuki to stick his dagger through his hand, but Torso brought his other and up and delivered a punch to Mutsuki. Causing the knife to come out of his hand as he punched Mutsuki over and over again.

"Nice...You sure are a nice one...!" Torso laughed as he punched Mutsuki again, Mutsuki hit the seat as blood leaked from his mouth anf he closed his eyes in pain, Torso looked at him as he breathed heavily and laughed, only to freak out as bright lights headed towards the,.

"That's the right number, no doubt about it. It's Torso!" Urie said as the taxi came at them and sped past them.

"Damn it!" Shirazu yelled as he quickly turned the bike around and drove after them.

Torso drove as sweat ran down his face.

"What's going on? What's going on? I don't have a mask today."

"The tires! use your Kugane to go for the tires!" Urie ordered.

"Huh?! If I miss, I don't wanna hear it from you!" Shirazu said as his eye quickly turned and his kugane came out as he shot at the tires, but missed.

"You suck at this."

"What did I see?! I can't hit them! And I'll kick you off!" Shirazu as lights appeared behind them.

"You on the motorbike and the taxi, pull over!" The police said.

Urie looked back and moved his hand to notify the police.

"They're in pursuit of a ghoul? Let's help them out." The police man said as they turned on their siren and sped up towards the taxi, "You in the taxi! Pull over--" But they were cut off as Torso pierced his kugane through them, Shirazu panicked as he dodged the debris.

"You bastard!"

Torso panicked as he saw cars blocking his way, he stopped the car as he began to freak out. Shirazu stopped his bike.

"A roadblock?"

'1st Rank Sasaki and Hisaki?!' Urie thought.

Torso got out of the car, his shirt tied around his head as he used his kugane to destroy the bike as the two quickly jumped off.

"Once you're standing still, aiming is easy!" Shirazu said as he used his kugane to shot shards. Urie leaped forward as his kugane came from his arm as he struck Torso.

'Those are those Quinx guys?' Torso thought.

"They're no different from ghouls, are they?" An investigator asked.

"They're not even human anymore." Another investigator said as Urie continued to attack Torso. Mutsuki slowly got out of the car, Holding his arm as he dropped to his knees.

'I'm going to have to fight, too...come on, come on, come on, come on...' Mutsuki thought as Urie and Torso continued to fight, 'Come on out, kugane!'

"It's no use." Mutsuki said as he clenched his fist, "Those two have mastered theirs as well as they have, but I..."

"He regenerates pretty fast." Shirazu said.

"Don't let up on your attacks. We'll lay into him all at one and arrest--" But Urie was cut off as an explosion was heard and a car flipped over.

"That arrest...had been canceled." A new voice spoke, he wore a red cloak and had a mask on as he stood on the car, "Are you those...Quinxes, was it? You use kuganes, right?"

"Wha--?"

"The S rated ghoul Orochi!" Urie interrupted Shirazu.

"This guy?" Shirazu asked.

"Damn, those dove folks do some pretty sickening stuff. They're no better then Aogiri, are they? Well, as long as I'm disgusted. let's have a little fun!" He said as he jumped into the air and stuck his kugane at Urie, who deflected it with his own. But Orochi kicked Urie in the stomach, casing him to fly back and a pillar as he coughed up blood.

"Sorry, but doves get no mercy from me." he said as he used his kugane to block Shirazu's shards, "What was that? A popgun?"

"Not even a scratch?!" Shirazu said.

Urie got up and tried to hit him, but Orochi dodged them and kicked him back.

'My kugane...' Uri thought as his kugane started to disappear as Orochi flipped back and landed on a car in a crouched position.

"A bunch of pale imitations, all right."

'Urie and Shirazu aren't even making a dent' Mutsuki thought as he looked over and picked up his dagger, 'Can I...do anything to compete?'

"What's this? There's one more of you? Well, I'll take care of you first--" But he was quickly caught off as a female with short black hair and piercing blue eyes jumped in. She stood protectively in front of Mutsuki as Orochi stared at her.

"Point-blank bomber!" Shirazu shouted as he ran forward and attack before jumping back.

"Toru! We're getting out of here!"

"What about you, Hisaki?!" Mutsuki asked.

"Go. I can handle this."

Shirazu shot more bombs at Orochi, who dodged them.

"Damn, is that lame." He said as he used his kugane to hit him back.

"Shirazu!" Mira yelled as she clicked the button on her briefcase and it changed into her sword Quinque as she stood in front of Orochi.

"Let's fall back now. I'm all out of kugane. We need to retreat" Shirazu said.

"Go now!" Mira shouted as she ran forward and attacked the ghoul, "Damn you! Leave them alone!" Mira shouted as she leaped out and attacked the ghoul, who dodged all of her attacks, he grunted as Mira shoved her Quinque into his shoulder, he simply kicked her off, Mira flew through the air, but midair flipped over and landed on her feet. She looked up and stared at the ghoul and ran forward, her Quinque collided with his kugane. The two stared into each others eyes as they grunted.

"I knew you were stupid...but joining the doves...that's idiotic of you...Mira."

Mira's blue eyes widened in realization as her breath hitched

"Nishki..."

"One and only. So mind telling me why you joined them, kinda makes you a hypocrite, doesn't it?"

"You...don't understand...it wasn't a choice." Mira grunted as she pushed Nishki back.

"You've always had a choice." Nishki said as he attacked her, "You just made the wrong one." He said as he swung his kugane and used it to grab Mira by her foot, lifting her up as he brought her close to his face, "No hard feelings Mira." he whispered as he swung her around and threw her over towards the other three. Mira gasped in pain as she laid on her stomach.

"Teach!" Mutsuki said as he ran over.

"Hisaki!"

"Shit.: Mir cursed as she felt a hot liquid come from her abdomen, she lifted her hand and winced as she felt the warm liquid on her hand.

"Are you okay?" Mutsuki asked as he sat by her.

"I'm fine." Mira said as she unbuttoned her white jacket, revealing the black tank top underneath, she ripped off the bottom half of her shirt and tied it around her abdomen, Mira gritted her teeth and closed her eyes as she tightened the shirt and tied it off. Not aware of the fact that Urie was eating himself so that his kugane would come back out.

"Hey, you idiot! What are you doing?!" Shirazu asked, Mira was too tired to question them as she leaned against Mutsuki.

"Preying on myself to activate my kugane!"

"Idiot." Mira hissed as she looked over at Urie.

'Promotion, promotion, promotion, promotion, promotion, promotion!'

Mira sighed as she looked away from him, 'Hurry, Haise.'

"Jeez. Okay, it's over." Nishki said as Mira glared.

'Damn you four eyes!'

Nishki swung his kugane towards them, but was blocked as the looked up to see Haise Sasaki.

"Mr. Sass!"

"Teach!"

Mira only smiled as she leaned against Mutsuki, his arm around her waist to support her.

"Huh? Who are you? King of the imitations?" Nishki asked.

'Hmm? There's something about him...' Nishki thought as Haise jumped up.

"You leave my men...alone!" Haise shouted as he attacked him.

"You're scampering around...it's annoying me!" Nishki said as he kicked Haise up and jumped up ad kicked Haise down, but he quickly flipped over and landed don his feet, "No pushback at all, almost like you were tofu. What about these, then?" Nishki said as two tails came out as he attacked the other four standing off to the side, Mira was quick to act as she let go of Mutsuki and blocked the attack with her Quinque, she grunted in pain as her Quinque broke.

"Hisaki!" Shirazu shouted.

"Hurry up and retreat!" Haise said as he Quinque broke from the other tail.

"But...!" Mutsuki said.

"Just hurry up and go!" Mira snapped as she help her abdomen and stepped back.

"Too late!" Nishki said as he brought his kugane down, the impact sending them all back.

'He's strong. It's been awhile since I messed with a ghoul like him.' Haise thought.

Mira stared at Nishki as she watched as Haise took his jacket off.

"Mutsuki, contact Akira." Haise then loosened his tie as his kugane began to appear.
