Chapter 21: Ken Kaneki

Silence

That's all there was as Mira Hisaki walked through the streets of Tokyo. Herr head was down as the hood of her red jacket covered her face. Strands of black hair fell down her face as her blue eyes showed caution. She bumped into people as she made her way down the sidewalk. She was parinoid and was extra cautious around this time of day. Mira's breath started to pick up and she panicked as she then started to run down the sidewalk, pushing people out of the way as she did so. She then ran into an ally and leaned against the wall trying to catch her breath. She ripped her hood off as she stared at the ground beneath her. She gritted her teeth as she abruptly kicked the wall. She screamed as she kicked it over and over again, not caring about the pain that shot through her foot. She breathed heavily as she looked down. Mira looked up as she heard foot steps. She didn't look up, but out of the corner of her eye she saw a ghoul approaching her, but she made no move. As soon as the ghoul was in arms length of her, she swiftly pulled out her sword and stuck it through the ghouls abdomen. She pulled it out and swiftly drew the blade across the ghouls neck and kicked it's head off. Blood stained her face. She whipped her face as she seathed her sword and made her way out of the ally.

Run Mira!

Mira's blue eyes widened as she walked faster.

Don't look back.

She stopped all of the sudden in the middle of the crowd, as soon as she did, everyone just started to go around her, as if she was just an other obsyical in their everyday life.

I'm Ken Kaneki.

It's been hours since Mira left the CCG and since she's seen Hide. The sun was starting to set and rain slowly fell from the sky. Mira looked up and let ti rain fall into her tan clear skin. Her phone started to ring and she reached into her pocket to pull it out and answer.

'Mira?'

"Touka? What's up?"

'He was here. I just talked to him'

Mira froze as she clutched her phone tighter before bringing the phone back to her ear again.

"How long ago?"

'20 minutes.'

"Thank you."

Mira ended the call as she broke into a run as she headed to the one place she knew Kaneki would think she would be at.

Her old apartment.

She ran through the rain to the place she lived when she fisrt moved to Tokyo. Her breath picked up as she stopped infront of her old apartment building, the door was opened, only a little, but enough for her to know that someone had entered the house. Mira approached the door, her hand went up to push the door back, but stopped when and she hesitantly pulled her hand back. She took a deep breath before she pushed the door open. It was dark inside and cobwebs covered the place. It was in worse shape when she first lived here. She stepped into the house and walked inside, closing the door behind her. She pulled her hood down and noticed the kitchen light was on. She walked forward and stopped in the doorway of the kitchen. Her eyes slightly widened when she saw a man with white hair sitting at the table, drinking coffee and this man was none other then....

Ken Kaneki.

Mira said nothing as she watched him drink his coffee. He set the cup down as he kept his head down before speaking.

"I was wondering how long it would take you to figure out I'd come here."

Mira said nothing as she watched him slowly stand up. In her eyes, he was different, but she could still see the old Kaneki in him. As she stood up he looked up at her, his grey eyes met her blue ones. They stared at eachother intensely. Mira finally broke the stare as she reached for her sword, she unseathed it and screamed as she lunged herself at Kaneki. Who stood there as she attacked him, Mira screamed in anger as she swung her sword at him, but he caught her blade and threw it away. He was calm as she was an angry mess. She grunted in frustration as she swung her fist at him, which he caught, she then kicked him in his stomach, which sent him back a bit. Mira lunged forward and punched him in the chest, he was pushed up against the wall and did nothing as he let Mira take all he anger out on him. Punch after punch he did nothing.

"You jerk!"

Punch

"You left us!"

Smack

"We risked our lives for you!"

Kick

"I would look for you every night!"

Punch

"You selfish!"

Smack

"Son of a bitch!"

Mira panted as she kept on planting blows onto Kaneki. She stopped as she stood infornt of him panting.

"You're not the same Kaneki I knew." Mira whispered. She then grabbed Kaneki by the hair and slammed his head into her knee over and over.

"Where the book worm!"

Smash

"The weak!"

Smash

"Idiot I knew!"

Smash

Mira stopped as she brought her foot up and roundhouse kicked him into the wall. She panted as she walked forward. Kaneki leaned against the wall, still not doing anything. Knowing that he deserved every hit she gave him. Blood trickled from his mouth as he wiped it off and looked up at Mira. Sweat trickled down her face as she panted heavily and her black hair stuck to her sweaty face. Mira clenched her fist tightly as she looked down and gritted her teeth.

"Where were you?" Mira whispered.

Kaneki said nothing.

"Touka was worried."

Silence

"I was worried." Mira whispered as Kaneki's eyes widened. And Mira finally looked up, Kaneki saw the tear run down her face as she clenched her fist.

"Hide's worried!"

Silence.

"It's hard to try to convince him not to get involved in a search for you!"

Kaneki looked up at his friends, who's face was covered in tears.

"Do you even care!"

Kaneki took a step forward.

"Why are you even here?!"

Another step.

"Where were you when we needed you the most!"

Another step.

"Hinami needed you! And like a coward you ran from your problems!"

Another step.

"Even now, you're still as big as a coward as you were." Mira whispered.

Kaneki finally reached her and placed a hand on her shoulder. Mira didn't look up.

"I'm sorry." Kaneki whispered.

His voice was deeper then before, that's what Mira noticed.

"Are you?" Mira said as she looked up to meet his gaze and pulled away from him.

"Why are you really here?"

"Information."

"Figures."

"Yoshimura told me about the owl, and I know that you know alot about ghouls. I came for any other information that you might have."

"Other then the Owl is a crazed ghoul who shows no mercy, I know nothing."

Kaneki looked over at her and sighed.

"Okay."

Kaneki walked forward and walked past her, she said nothing as he opensed the door.

"Mira."

The ravenette looked up and over at Kaneki, who held the door opened.

"Take care of Hide." And just like that he was gone. Mira stood there, a small smile crossed her features all of the sudden.

"What'd you think I was doing." Mira whispered as she looked at the door.

"The eyepatch ghoul....seems like my nickname stuck."

Mira sighed as she walked out of the house and walked to her favorite coffee shop, but she soon started to sprint down the shop, keeping her head down to not draw any unwanted attention. The shop came into view and she could she Nishki sitting down while loosing his tie. Everyone in Anteiku jumped when the ravenette busted through the front doors.

"The hell was that Hisaki!" Nishki yelled as she leaned against the door panting. She bent down and placed her hand onto her knees.

"Sorry." Mira breathed out.

"Are you okay?" Hinami asked as Mira looked up and gave them a reassuring smile.

"I'm fine, don't worry about it."

They said nothing as Mira sat down as on a stool.

"Hinami, are you okay? You must be tired." Irima said.

"Uh-uh, that was fun."

"Oh, come to think of it, Roma..." Nishki said as a girl, who Mira hadn't seen before looked up from cleaning the counter.

"This is the fisrt time you finished without breaking aby dishes, isn't it?"

Roma smirked as she turned and stuck out two fingers.

"I broke two dishes." Roma stated proudly.

"Well, as busy as we were, only breaking two is a real feat."

"Nishki, you're being so nice!" Roma said surprised as Mira snicker and held a hand to her mouth.

"Four eyes is in love."

"Oi! Shut the hell up, Hisaki!"

"B-but why, are you after me?" Roma said as she hugged herself.

"Huh?! Don't get full of yourself starting with that damn nonsense!"

"Still, it really has been awhile since we were this busy, huh?" Irima said.

"Yeah, we were this close to calling in Anteiku's ultimate weapon." Komo said.

"Anteiku's ultimate weapon?" Hinami asked.

"What are you on about Komo?" Mira questioned.

"Who's that?" Touka asked.

"That would be..." But before Komo could finish the door opened.

"Speak of the devil..." Komo said as he looked up.

Everyone looked up to see none other then Yomo.

"Ultimate weapon? You're kidding?" Nishki said.

"Yeah, couldn't be." Mira mumered as Yoshimura appeared behind Yomo.

"It's true. Though this was this was a long time ago." Yoshimura spoke.

"Yomo once worked at Anteiku?" Touka asked.

"Unbelievable." Nishki said.

"He was really good at making coffee." Irima said.

"Mm-hmm." Komo said.

"But his customer service, on the other hand..." Irima said.

As everyone nodded their heads in understanding.

"Touka? Are you finished packing?" Yomo asked as Mira looked over.

"Uh-oh! I still have a little left to do."

"We'll take things from here." Irima said.

"Thank you very much, let's go Hinami." Touka said as Hinami nodded her head.

The two girls rushed upstairs as Mira watched them.

"Oi, old man."

Yoshimura turned his attention to the ravenette.

"We need to talk."

Mira sighed as she sat infront of Yoshimura, after watching Yomo leave with Hinami and Touka, he called her in. Mira said nothing as she watched him drink his coffee.

"What is it you need to discuss with me?" Yoshimura asked as he set his cup down. Mira looked down as she clutched her thighs.

"It's the CCG."

Yoshimura looked up at the girl.

"They....found out who I am." She whispered as she looked down.

Yoshimura said nothing as she looked away.

"Mira."

Mira looked up at Yoshimura.

"I need you to stay away from Anteiku."

"Huh?"

"There's a fight coming, I don't want you in the middle of it."

Mira scoffed.

"I don't know if you know this, old man. But I don't back out of fights. Especially if my family is at risk."

"I know. But, I'm doing this for your safety, just as I've done with Touka and Hinami."

Mira looked down and sighed.

"Okay, old man. I'll stay away."

Yoshimura smiled as she stood up and walked over to him. She bent down and placed a soft kiss onto his head.

"Don't die, old man." Mira whispered as she hugged him and walked out of the door, Yoshimura only smiled softly as he watched her walk off. Mira walked out of Anteiku and walked home. She was a soft till deciding if she should tell hide the truth or not. It would make it easier for her. She sighed as she stopped infront of her door. She sighed as she opened the door. She stripped off her jacket and looked at their bed to see Hide's hat on the bed.

Must be in the bathroom

Mira walked over to the bathroom she could see the light peak out at the bottom of the door. Mira sighed as she opened the door. She saw Hide lying in the tub, soaking in water, earphones were in his ears, so he didn't notice that she entered. She smiled a she closes the door and started to peel her clothes off. Once she was completely stripped she stepped into the tub. Hide noticed her feet snd pulled his earphones out as he smiled up at her.

"What's going on here?"

Mira just smiled as she stepped into the tub and sat in it, the water covering her breast as Hide sat up looking up.

"I'm gonna wash your hair, so turn around." Mira stated as Hide complied. He turned around and let Mira wash his hair, her small hands ran through his blonde hair. Once she finished she suddenly hugged him from behind. Her breast pressed against his bare back. Hide was a little surprised by her sudden actions. But his eyes widened as he heard her muffled cries.

"Mira? What's wrong?"

She said nothing.

"What happend at the CCG?"

Silence

"Mira?"

"I-i'm so sorry."

"Huh?"

Hide then turned around to look at his girlfriend, who's head was down as she clutched her bare thighs.

"I'm a liar."

Hide said nothing as he looked at her.

"A monster."

"Mira..."

"No. Hide, I'm not who you think I am."

Hide stopped as he looked at her.

"I.....I do bad things, things noone should do. And.....I've been lying to you about it all....about who I really am." Mira whispered as tears ran down her cheek.

Hide kept quiet and listened to everything Mira told him.

"I-i'm so so sorry, Hide." Mira cried as she looked down, but Hide still said nothing, as he was still trying to process her real story. Mira continued to cry,  Hide surprised her when he pulled her into a hug, her head was pressed into his chest.

"Your past doesn't define you, Mira."

"But, I'm a murderer, and still am."

Hide pulled her closer to him as ran his fingers through her wet black hair.

"It still doesn't change the fact that I love you." Hide whispered as Mira's eyes widened.

"What?"

"I know what you did was wrong, but I know you have a reason for doing it."

Mira only nodded her head as she clutched onto his chest. Hide rocked her as he kissed her head and held her close. He muttered comforting words to her and held her close to him that night. Not caring about anything else. Not school. Not his club. Not ghouls. Not the CCG. Not Kaneki. Just Mira. And only just Mira.
