Chapter - 8
Morning sun rays disturbed Swara's sleep, she opened her eyes to find herself in unfamiliar surroundings engulfing her heart with fear. But then realisation hit her hard about last day's event.
She sat on couch to take good picture of the room. It was huge room painted with white and grey colour with matching accessories and settings. She could see glass door accessing balcony. There was way to corridor which led towards washroom, she could guess it.
'His room is also black and white same as his office and his heart. Heartless Rakshas' she turned her eyes towards bed side where he was working yesterday. But her eyes narrowed down looking at empty bed. Her contractual husband was nowhere to be seen which gave relief to her heart and mind.
'Thank you Kanhaji for not bringing him in front of me early in the morning. I don't want to see his face first else my day will get ruined.' But her eyes landed on the picture above his bed.
She instantly closed her eyes tightly shaking her head in denial, 'No no no... please no Kanhanji I don't want to see his irritating face... Please... please... Make him disappear from this earth.'
"Acchew" She sneezed and then she realised she was feeling chillness in her body due to low temperature set inside room. Yesterday he did not offer her any blanket or increase temperature of the room.
'Iceberg' she shook her head giving him one more name.
"Acchew" She sneezed again. Instantly her nose turned pink, and eyes turned glassy. She rubbed her shoulders feeling cold.
There was knock on the room door. She went to open the door to see Julia standing in front of her with trolly.
"Good morning Swara"
"Good morning Julia Aunty"
"I was not sure what you would prefer in the morning, so I brought all variety of hot beverages for you" Julia entered pushing trolly inside their room.
"There is black coffee, green tea, hot chocolate, English tea, Honey lemon... what do you want my dear?"
"Water" Swara was astounded with wide range of choice given to her.
"Hot water or Ice water?"
"Hot water" Swara replied shivering.
"Ohh dear you are shivering. Let me increase temperature of the room. Sanskar always keeps it at lowest level." Julia informed and while changing settings from remote.
"What will you prefer for breakfast?" Julia asked again.
"Anything...which is going to get cooked for everyone" Swara replied feeling hungry. Last day she did not have enough food.
"Also, will you be doing breakfast in your room or in dining hall or in Mrs. Maheshwari's room" she asked pouring hot water for Swara.
"In Granny's room" Swara responded. 'In Granny's room that Iceberg will be under control, outside he truly becomes monster. It's better I be with Granny. She is so sweet.'
"That's great to hear. I will set your breakfast along with Mrs. Maheshwari" she turned to go.
"Ohh I forgot... your bag is in dressing room. If you need any help let me know" Julia pointed out towards glass door before leaving.
"Thanks Julia Aunty" Swara moved towards glass door.
It was huge dressing room with expensive and branded apparels. 'These many cloths would be more enough for our whole society's population.'
Swara came out after freshening up, she mentally thanked her Kanhaji for not bringing him in front of her. She straight went towards Granny's room.
"May I come in Granny" Swara asked pushing door.
"Swara my child. Good morning..... come inside" Granny replied with warm smile.
"Good morning Granny"
"First thing this is your house. You don't need anyone's permission to go anywhere you want" Granny held her hand.
Swara smiled looking at her love. Her gaze went towards huge glass bookshelf. She kept on looking at it.
"Do you like reading?" she turned hearing question from Granny.
"Yes Granny. It's my hobby"
"Then go ahead pick your choice" Granny encouraged her.
Meanwhile Julia brought their breakfast and set the table.
"Yes, send me all details. I need to look into them" Sanskar entered Granny's room, which grabbed Swara's attention. He was wearing grey gym t-shirt and black track pants. Looking at his sweaty face she could guess he was doing his morning workouts.
"Good morning Granny" Sanskar bent to kiss Granny's cheeks.
"Good Morning my Child" she tapped on his cheeks.
Sanskar sat and started digging inside his breakfast plate which was filled with scrambled eggs, toasts, grilled bacon strips, and fresh fruits.
"Wish you wife good morning" Granny whispered bending near his ears.
Sanskar raised his eyes and muttered, "Good Morning"
"Good morning" Swara hated even to wish him. She gave him tight smile rolling eyes.
"Swara this is bacon... if you don't want... don't eat it." Granny said showing her bacon strips.
"No I don't want it" Swara took them out and kept it in other dish.
"Not again" Granny huffed looking at her porridge. "Do you know cooking Indian food?"
"No, she does not" Sanskar replied even before Swara could open her mouth.
"I did not ask you. So, keep your mouth shut" Granny shushed him with wide eyes.
She turned to Swara, "I saw you nodding your head. That means you know Indian cooking. Will you cook Moong Dal Ka Halwa for me? or Aloo Paratha? or Kadhi Pakoda?" she grinned with shining eyes. Her list of Indian foods was interrupted by her grandson.
"Granny you have your fixed diet. So, she will not cook any of it. This is final and I don't want any discussions on this." He was firm on his stand.
"That was rude" Granny howled.
Mobile ring from Swara's phone broke their moment. Sanskar looked at her phone, it was showing, "Nikhil Calling"
Swara picked up phone to cut the call not meeting her eyes with Sanskar's hard ones. She could see his fist which was clutched tightly turning his knuckles into white.
Without any further words Swara dug her head in her breakfast plate. After breakfast Sanskar went to his room for shower. Swara did not even step out from Granny's room, she engrossed herself with books and talks with Granny.
"Swara come to the room NOW" Sanskar entered raising his eyebrows.
Swara gulped big lump formed in her throat.
"Go Swara. You should never ignore your husband and that too when you are newly married" Granny winked.
Sanskar rolled his eyes, and Swara looked at him in bewilderment.
Swara plastered smile on her face. She started following Sanskar passing pitiful look at Granny. 'Granny please save me. I don't want to go with this monster.'
"Tell your jerk fiancée. Not to call you when you are here?" Sanskar fired once they both were in his room.
"I told him... but..."
"I don't care what you have told him or not. But I don't want him to call you when you are here. Granny should never know about it." He raised his finger at her taking one step towards her fragile figure.
"Then why don't you tell what is all this? I don't understand" Swara was frustrated with his dominating nature. Her frustration gave her strength to raise voice against him.
"That's your problem. Till the time you are in this house, keep him out of all this."
"Always just order" she herself did not realise when she voiced out her thoughts.
"Because I am the boss here" His pride was oozing out from his cold and emotionless face.
'Hitler' Swara gritted her teeth.
They both heard a knock on the door.
"May I come in" Julia asked from outside.
"Yes Julia" Sanskar turned.
"Dr. Richardson is here. I have asked him to wait in study" Julia informed.
"Hmm I am coming" he took deep breath and left.
Swara spent rest of the day in Granny's room. She instantly fell in love with this lady.
After some hours of their heated encounter Sanskar also joined two ladies of his house in his Granny's room.
When he came Swara could see anguish on his face when he passed quick look at Granny.
After lunch till dinner, he kept working while sitting on couch, whenever he had any meeting, he used to go downstairs for attending.
"Sanskar why don't you show her around" Granny asked looking at duo. One has dug his head in Mac and other one in book. Deep silence of the room was unbearable for her.
Both looked at her raising their heads.
'No No No I am safe here' Swara shook her head vigorously.
"Granny I will but I have some important work." Sanskar answered turning his eyes back on Mac Screen.
"Always work...Don't worry Swara I will ask Julia to show you around. You know we have big garden and then patio..." Granny initiated their talks again.
'She is so talkative' Swara made her opinion about Granny. 'How come he is grandson of this chirpy lady?'
Sanskar did not disturbed them in their talks, but his eyes were moving again and again towards his grandmother's beaming face. 'This is what I want.'
During dinner, Granny once again broach topic, "So when are you planning for your wedding reception?"
Her question earned every bit of attention from both. They shared quick eye lock.
"Not so soon Granny, and you know the reasons" Sanskar did not match his cold eyes with Granny's.
Swara could see a shadow pass through Granny's face which she plastered with smile while tapping her palm on Sanskar's.
Next day also passed with in blink with no interaction between Swara and Sanskar but spending their time in Granny's room.
They both came to bid goodbye to Granny in her room.
Sanskar moved towards Julia and they both were discussing something looking at file which was in Sanskar's hand.
"Swara come here my child" Granny called her and Swara sat on edge of the bed beside her.
"I know, Sanskar is tough one to crack." Granny held her hand in middle of her's.
Swara stared in her eyes for a moment, there was some vulnerability. She could not understand but kept other palm their joined hands.
"I don't know how much he had open up with you, but he had faced too much in his young age and that' s why he had become cold, rigid towards all his relations. But I am glad you have step in his life as his sunshine. I am sure you will brighten his life with your simplicity, love, and care. You need to know my child, most of the times he just shut himself in his shell pushing everyone away, but you need to be with him to pull him out of that shell. You need to become his strength." Swara kept on staring without blink.
"Apart from me, now you are his ONLY family. My child needs you. Never leave his hand. Take care of him. He is not the one what he shows to the world." Granny's eyes filled with tears, but her gaze was fixed on Sanskar who was still busy talking with Julia.
Swara could not gather courage to break happy bubble of this pious lady. She could barely give her simple nod.
"Bye Granny, we are leaving. Take care. We will come on next weekend." Sanskar kissed Granny's cheeks.
"Bye Granny" Swara wished and then bent to take her blessings which captures Sanskar's eyes.
"Swara bless you my child with all the happiness of this world" Granny caressed her hairs with moist eyes. She cupped Swara's face to kiss her forehead.
After bidding bye to Granny, Swara and Sanskar settled down in his car to move back towards their hidden married life for next 5 days.
Swara was observing Sanskar from corner eyes, he was silent looking out of the window with emotionless face, cold eyes. But her eyes captured his nose which had turned pink.
'Was he crying?' thought crossed her mind, which she shrugged, 'No he only knows how to make other's cry.'
"Mam we reached" Roger's voice broke her trance, and she could see herself at the parking lot of her apartment.
Without saying a word, she got down and took bag while moving inside apartment.
"Let's go Roger" Sanskar ordered without even looking at Swara's retiring figure.
