Chapter 1

"Peridot! Peridot, where are you?"

Peridot sat in the tree smirking as the 'Steven' walked around below her, smiling and calling her name in a tone the Crystal Clods have before described as 'sing-song'.

He'll never find me. My hiding spot is brilliant!

The lime-green Gem thought back to when 'Steven' had first approached her to play this game he had called 'Hide and Seek'. His explanation had fascinated her.

"Hey, Peridot. You can come out of the bathroom now, the Gems are gone."

She opened the door cautiously, only allowing a bit of her face to show. "And where have they gone?"

"Oh, they went to go and look for Malachite again. I couldn't come this time."

Peridot opened the door fully, but before she could even take a step the Steven was dragging her out the door.

          "What are you doing?!"

The Steven stopped and fell down in the green plants all over the ground called 'grass'. "We're gonna play a game!"

"What is this...game, you speak of?"

"Oh, um..." The Steven frowned as he thought, but only for a moment, then he grinned again. "A game is something you do for fun! To enjoy!"

"Fun?" These human terms always confused the Gem.

"You don't know what fun is?" The Steven's surprised reaction startled Peridot, causing her to retreat slightly as he stood up. "I get that you're a HomeWorld Gem, and you don't know a lot about stuff on Earth, but this is unacceptable! Everyone needs fun!"

The Steven grabbed her hand again, dragging her back into the wooden box he called a 'house'. He pulled her toward the Warp Pad, then over it to the strange door behind it.

"I want to show Peridot fun!"

          They waited.

          Nothing happened.

"Darn it!" The Steven sat down on the Warp Pad, taking Peridot with him. "Why won't it work? This is an emergency!"

Suddenly, his face 'lit up', as the humans say.

"I wish we could play a game!"

The hybrid boy began to glow pink as the door opened, revealing an endless land of pink clouds. The Steven stood once more. "Come on!"

The Steven pulled her inside, and Peridot grabbed a hold of him, expecting to fall through the clouds, but all she heard was laughter.

"Don't worry. It's safe. This is my mom's room, Rose Quartz. We can do anything in here!"

Peridot relaxed her grip slightly, then jumped as the door poofed into a small cloud behind them.

"We're trapped! The door is gone! Did you take me here to imprison me?" Peridot glared accusingly at the boy she was clinging to.

"No no no, it'll come back when we're done. Now, I want a big grassy forest! But, uh, make sure it's within your limit. I don't wanna repeat of the town."

Peridot just stared at the Steven. What is he talking about? Then the pink clouds vanished, and a forest sprung up around the pair. Her jaw dropped to the ground.

The Steven laughed. "Cool, right? This place can make anything out of clouds!" He turned around so they were now facing each other.

Peridot thought for a moment. "I want my robot!" Nothing happened.

The Steven laughed again. He seemed to do that a lot. "It only listens to me. Sorry, Peridot."

She frowned, crossing her arms and letting go of the Gem boy. "Well, that's not fair."

"Don't worry, I won't cheat." He took a step back, and raised his arms. "Now we can play hide n' seek!"

"Ah, yes. You still have yet to explain this 'game' which we do for 'fun'."

"Oh right." He shrugged. "It's simple, really. One of us hides, and the other tries to find them. It's more fun with more people, but this'll do. I'll go first. I'm gonna count to ten, and you go hide. Once I reach ten, I'll try to find you. Go! One..."

He covered his eyes with his hands and began to count. Peridot froze, looking around before racing off in a random direction, climbing up a random tree.

And there she sat, waiting for the Steven to find her, which he never would.

My genius is too much for the Steven!

          "I found you!"

Suddenly, Peridot was tumbling through the air as the Steven tackled her. They hit the ground with a soft thud as the clouds the forest was made out of cushioned their fall.

          "Uh, oops. Sorry."

Peridot looked up at the strange, hybrid boy on top of her. His cheeks were turning a light pink, matching the color of the clouds around them.

He suddenly started to laugh, rolling off of her and landing spread eagle in the grass. Peridot looked at him, then the urge to laugh as well over took her, and soon the both of them were rolling around on the ground, laughing hysterically.

"See," the Steven said in between laughs. "I knew you would have fun!"

"This is what fun feels like?" The Gem looked over at the Steven. "This...euphoric feeling of happiness?"

          "Yeah! And guess what?"

          "What?"

"It's your turn to find me!" He raced off, still laughing. "Start counting!"

Peridot grinned. If this is fun...I want to do this all the time! Maybe some of these human concepts aren't so bad.

"Come and find me, Peridot!" The Steven's distant voice made her smirk.

"Alright, you asked for it!" She raced off to find the weird, hybrid Gem boy who showed her the meaning of fun, still laughing and grinning herself.
