Chapter 7: A Ball to Remember!

The days leading up to the party passed by and eventually Setsuko found herself wearing a dark red, almost black, tux and standing at the top of a grand staircase between Haruhi and Kyoya. She adjusted her tie and looked out over the crowd of girls that had gathered for the event.

"It is so good to see you here tonight, my little lambs." Tamaki said from the second-floor balcony just above the grand staircase. "The Ouran Host Club would like to bid you welcome."

Along the grand hall, the chandeliers turned on one by one until the entire hall was lit, revealing just how many people were attending the party. As the lights turned on the orchestra started playing, providing elegant background music. At this display the girls applauded and looked up at the hosts with fond looks in their eyes.

"As always, ladies, the host club members are here for your entertainment. So, we invite you to dance to your hearts content. Additionally, based on her dancing skills one lucky young lady will be chosen as tonight's queen. The queen's reward will be a passionate kiss on the cheek, from our king." Kyoya said, looking down at the dance floor with a cool smile.

"Good luck to you, my darlings." Tamaki said, and almost all the girls grew red in the face, some even looking like they were about to faint.

"Haruhi, show some enthusiasm." Some voices said, and Setsuko looked to her left to see the twins standing on both sides of Haruhi.

"Well excuse me, guys, sorry. I'm not used to this sort of thing. I've only ever gone to the festivals held in my neighborhood park." She said.

"I don't know if you can really consider that a party or not." Kyoya said, by now all the hosts, except Tamaki had moved to stand near Haruhi and the twins on the main platform of the stairs. "Well, since you're already here you might as well get yourself something to eat. We've got quite a spread."

Haruhi perked up at that news, and who could blame her, food was almost always the best part of a party. "A spread? With... fancy tuna?"

All around Haruhi and Setsuko the Hosts paused and the pen Kyoya was holding snapped into tiny pieces at what she said. The twins engulfed Haruhi in a hug while Mori stood over her with Honey on his shoulders. Most impressive was the fact that Tamaki jumped down to where they were from the second balcony, flipping himself over the railing. Setsuko just stayed where she was, watching this all unfold.

"Get some fancy tuna here, stat!" Tamaki shouted, pointing at Kyoya who had already pulled out his phone and was dialing a number.

"You poor thing~" The twins cooed as they pressed their cheeks against Haruhi's head.

"Guys, I think you're overreacting." Setsuko tried to say, but ultimately was ignored by the hosts who were still in a frenzy to get fancy tuna.

Eventually the hosts pulled away from Haruhi and once the tuna was ordered they headed down to the main floor, where the girls were waiting. Most of the girls surrounded Tamaki to ask him for a dance, but a decent amount went with the other hosts that they were regulars for. Setsuko being one of those hosts. Those who weren't dancing stood around and watched.

Lifting her arm and spinning the girl she was dancing with, Setsuko dipped her before smiling and pulling her back up. "Thank you for the dance, my lady. But it seems my father requires my assistance so I must leave."

"I-it's okay, senpai." The girl said, her face turning red before she ran off to her friends, the small group squealing as they talked about what had just happened.

Setsuko sighed and made her way to the back room, where Kuwata was waiting for her. "Looks like you're quite the ladies man." He joked.

"Oh, shut it." Setsuko said, not even trying to hide her amused smile. She walked into a small back room to change out from the tux she was wearing while Kuwata waited outside. Behind a curtain in the room was the dress she would be wearing for her performance, since it was more of an elegant event, she wouldn't be wearing her usual frilly, cutesy, costume and instead would be wearing a simple white dress that faded from a white to a soft pink near the bottom of the skirt. It was cut off at her knees in the front and flowed towards the ground in the back. Along with it there was a pale pink shawl that she would wear loosely around her arms. Finally, she wore dark pink heels, which completed the outfit.

Glad to be getting out of the binder, she changed from the tux to the dress before stepping out and getting some light make-up dabbed on her face by Kuwata before she took out her contacts and put on the wig and hair extensions. By the time they were done there was no trace of 'Itsuki' left and she was completely Momoko once more. She reached up and placed her hand over her heart before she took a deep breath. She was safe here; he had no idea she was performing here.

"Well, you ready, Momoko?" Kuwata asked.

Setsuko closed her eyes and clapped her hands, summoning what little energy she had before she opened her eyes and smiled, "I'm ready!" She exclaimed, turning, and heading out the door.

As she walked down the hallway, she heard a few voices coming from one of the nearby rooms, and as she got closer someone stepped out, walking awkwardly as she muttered something about her face feeling heavy and it was hard to walk. Though upon closer inspection Setsuko recognized it as Haruhi, but with a wig and wearing a dress. Was this part of the plan Tamaki had mentioned a few days ago?

Whatever I'm not part of it so I might as well just keep heading to the grand hall. Setsuko thought, continuing to walk along the hallway.

"Ah, Momoko, I'm glad to see you could make it." A voice said and Setsuko looked up to see Kyoya looking over at her with a smile on his face. Unsettling. Thanks to him, the other hosts noticed her presence, and all started to crowd her.

"It's so good to see you again, Momo-chan!" Honey exclaimed, running up to stand in front of her, flowers surrounding him. "When Itsu-chan said he could get you to come I was so excited!"

"I'm so glad to hear it, Honey-chan!" Setsuko said, looking down with a bright smile. She looked up towards the rest of the club, who were looking at her with curious gazes. "And it's nice to see you as well, Mori-chan. Are these people part of the club you mentioned?" She had to feign innocence, 'Itsuki' knew the hosts, not 'Momoko'.

Tamaki perked up and rushed over to her, reaching in his pocket, and grabbing a rose that somehow was in perfect shape. "So, you've heard of us?"

Setsuko giggled, "Of course, Honey-chan has mentioned you all before! Though I'm afraid I don't know any of your names."

"Well, then, let me introduce myself!" Tamaki exclaimed reaching forwards and lightly grabbing her hand before bringing it up to his lips. "My name is Souh Tamaki, to stand before a princess such as yourself is a pure honor."

"Aren't you a gentleman!" Setsuko said, to be honest it was a bit jarring to have Tamaki treat her like he treated his guests. She wasn't used to being on the receiving end of his act. She watched as he was suddenly shoved to the side and replaced by the twins, who leaned close to her and grinned.

"We're Hitachiin Hikaru and Kaoru!" They exclaimed together.

"If you ever need costumes, here's our mothers' card." Hikaru said, handing Setsuko a business card.

"I'm sure she'd be happy to work with you." Kaoru added.

"Oh, thank you!" Setsuko said, accepting the card with a smile.

"Kyo-chan, aren't you going to introduce yourself?" Honey asked, and Setsuko looked over at Kyoya, who was standing at the back of the group writing something down on his clipboard. He looked up and bowed his head in greeting, "Ah, yes. It's a pleasure to meet you, I'm Ootori Kyoya."

"The pleasure is all mine."

"Now, I think it's best if we let Momoko continue on her way. She does have to perform for our lovely guests."

"Of course, and we must hurry if we want our plan to go by smoothly." Kyoya said.

"Right! Kyoya, please lead Princess Momoko to the Grand Hall for her performance, everyone else, to your positions!"

"Yes, sir!" Everyone other than Mori and Kyoya exclaimed.

"If you'd follow me, Princess Momoko, I'll lead you to the great hall."

"I appreciate the guide, Ootori-chan!" Setsuko said, smiling up at Kyoya.

Kyoya looked down at her for a second before he returned the smile with a small one of his own. "It's my pleasure."

The two of them walked through the great hall in silence, though it wasn't awkward. Maybe It was because Setsuko was used to the silence that came with being around Kyoya, but it was almost a comfortable feeling to walk beside him.

"You know what you'll be performing tonight, correct?" Kyoya asked, breaking the silence between the two of them.

"Yes, we went over it not too long ago. I'll be performing my earlier songs." Setsuko said. When she first started her singing her songs were nothing like what she currently sang. They were mellow and held more of a sweet melody instead of her more recent energetic pop songs. Her earlier songs were the perfect fit for a formal party like the one the hosts were throwing.

"Very good." Kyoya said. "We're here, do your best, Princess." He said, giving her a closed eye smile.

Setsuko looked up at him for a second, taking in the features of his face and his expression before she nodded, matching the close eyed smile he was giving her. "I will." Kyoya opened the door and Setsuko took a deep breath before stepping out into the open. She was currently on the second floor, standing on the same balcony that Tamaki was standing on when the party started.

Since she was a surprise guest, she wasn't going to be announced to the guests, and instead she was to just start singing. And that's just what she did. The moment she made her way to the microphone she started singing, the soft song filling the entire party hall. The chatter in the room quieted down as people looked up towards her, some squealing that the Momoko was standing there performing for them while others just listened in silence, smiles on their faces. The few guys who had attended were looking up at her as well, some even growing red in the cheeks.

Her performance wasn't only to make the attendees happy, but to also allow the hosts to carry on with their plan. She was to distract the girls as they got Kanako and her fiancé together behind the scenes. Out of the corner of her eye, she watched as Mori, Honey, and the twins stepped back into the main room, the two of them done with their parts of the jobs. Kyoya was still standing in the doorway behind her, though since her back was turned towards him she was unaware of what he was doing. The only hosts that were out at the moment were Tamaki, Haruhi, and technically 'Itsuki'.

After she finished her last song, she smiled and waved to the crowd of girls. "Hello everyone!" She exclaimed, "I'm so glad the host club invited me to perform for you all, being at Ouran Academy is just Peachy! I'd love to talk more, but the final event will be starting soon, and I doubt any of you will want to miss it!" Just outside the hall, some spotlights turned on and the girls turned their attention from Setsuko and started walking out onto the balcony.

Setsuko let out a sigh of relief and started walking back to the dressing room, though before she could step through the doors, they closed, Kyoya standing in front of them. "Why don't you join us for the final event, Princess Momoko? I'm sure you'll enjoy it."

Setsuko shook her head and smiled, "I don't want to intervene- "

"Nonsense. I'm sure everyone would love it if you were to stay longer."

It was obvious Kyoya wasn't going to let her refuse, so she let out a sigh and allowed him to lead her towards the balcony, where everyone else was gathered. Kyoya moved between girls to get to the front of the crowd while Setsuko stayed back, able to see what was happening easily from where she was.

"And now, ladies and gentlemen, it is now time for us to begin the final song of this evening's festivities. The last waltz of the night has been chosen by the host club for... this lovely couple." Tamaki announced, stretching his hand out towards the two students who were standing in the courtyard below.

Setsuko watched as the boy bowed and offered his hands, the words that the two exchanged were too quiet for her to hear over the excited chattering of the girls around her so she just stood and watched. Behind her the orchestra played and the two of them danced as cherry blossoms fell around them. It truly was a beautiful sight.

Tamaki reached his arms outwards, "May this awkward couple be forever blessed!"

"And now we'll announce the queen of the ball!" Hikaru exclaimed.

"Congratulations Princess Kanakazuaki Kanaki!" Koaru continued.

"And for her reward, a kiss on the cheek from the king!"

"Haruhi Fujioka will be standing in for Tamaki!"

Upon seeing the shock on Tamaki's face, Setsuko was barely able to contain her laughter. Reaching up she placed a fist over her mouth and let out a few coughs, hoping to mask her amusement. She looked towards the hosts to see Haruhi and Kyoya exchanging a few words before a look of defeat appeared on Haruhi's face and she stepped forwards, walking towards Kanako.

The next moments happened to pass by quickly, Haruhi tilted Kanako's head to kiss her cheek, Tamaki darted forwards to try to stop them... and the next thing she knew Haruhi and Kanako were full on kissing each other on the lips while Tamaki fell onto the ground shell-shocked and all the girls squealed.

With a small smile, Setsuko turned and started walking towards the dressing room. After tonight, she needed some sleep.
