Chapter 27: Can't have a Fanfic Without a Festival!

"A summer festival?" Tamaki asked.

Two days had passed since Hikaru and Haruhi's date, and the club was sitting around the main lobby, Haruhi was able to go on a break to talk with them and that was when Setsuko sprung the idea.

"Yeah, I saw a flyer for one while I was out in town, after you left me and all, and I thought it'd be fun." Setsuko said, "And since we're here why not indulge in the local fun. Let's see, they'll have games, food, and fireworks." Plus it would be a great distraction after everything that happened earlier that week.

"I haven't been to a festival in a while. It might be fun." Haruhi stated.

"Fireworks..." Tamaki's eyes and face lit up as he spaced off into some kind of perverted daydream, "I like it! A commoner's festival! I've only been to one once before. Alright men, and Haruhi, let's go to the festival!"

"Sounds like fun! Thanks for suggesting it, Itsu-chan! Don't you think it'll be fun, Takashi?" Honey exclaimed, looking up at Mori with an excited smile.

"Yeah."

"I think a festival will be fun. Just what we all need." Kaoru said.

"It should be what we all need." Kyoya said.

The hosts who hadn't spoken up nodded in agreement, and just like that, a night at the festival was planned.

***

When the sun started setting, Setsuko met up with the rest of the host club just outside of town. Most of the other hosts were wearing casual attire as well, the only one who wasn't was... Tamaki, who was wearing a yukata.

"Shall we head in?" Setsuko asked, gesturing to the gates separating them from the festival.

Just beyond the gates, there were stalls with a variety of things to offer to the festival goers. The moment they walked through the gate, the entire club separated, Honey and Mori went towards the food stands, Tamaki grabbed Haruhi's wrist and dragged her towards the games, Hikaru and Kaoru ran into the crowd, disappearing among the other festival goers. The only two at the entrance was Setsuko and Kyoya.

"Since everyone left us, why don't we explore this festival together?" Kyoya suggested, looking down at Setsuko with a smile as he held his hand out to her.

"Yeah, that sounds like fun." Setsuko said, returning the smile as she reached forwards, taking his hand in hers. It took a second for her to realize what she did, and when she did a heat rushed to her cheeks, "Uh, sorry, I just saw your hand and thought-"

Kyoya chuckled, and his hand closed around hers "That's exactly what I meant. Now then, shall we see what this commoner's festival has to offer, Itsuki?"

Setsuko's cheeks warmed up and she grinned, "Let's go clear this entire festival of prizes!" Her grip tightened around Kyoya's and she started moving forwards, walking through the crowd and looking for the stand with the most prizes, and it wasn't hard to find it. The two of them stepped up to a large booth, at the front table there were fake rifles lined up, and along the back of the stall, a game of Shateki. Setsuko looked up at Kyoya and grinned as she pulled him towards the booth and slammed a few hundred yen down on the counter, "Come on, let's get this prize raiding started."

***

"Please, sir! If you keep playing, I'll run out of toys for the other festival goers!" The vendor begged as he looked in dread at the yen Setsuko just slammed down on the counter. "I can't restock this many prizes!"

Setsuko looked at the vendor, to the gun, to the prizes- or well- lack of prizes now. In the past ten minutes, Setsuko had managed to win just over half the prizes that were lined up on the back wall, and they were collecting in a pile beside her getting many stares from passerbys. She hummed and tilted her head. "I guess you're right."

The vendor sighed in relief, "I can give you some bags for those prizes you won."

"Would you? That'd be great!"

For the next few minutes, Setsuko and the vendor placed the stuffed animals in bags. When they were all put in there, Setsuko turned to look at Kyoya, who just hung up his phone, almost a troubled expression on his face.

"Everything okay, Kyo-can?" Setsuko asked, walking up to him with the bags in hand.

Kyoya looked at her and he let out a small laugh, "Kyo-chan?"

Setsuko paused, and her cheeks warmed up, "I- uh- it's a habit." She saw a smile of amusement and puffed her cheeks up in annoyance, "I don't need you to comment."

"Yeah, yeah, Itsu-chan."

"I will set your house on fire." Setsuko said with a smile.

"You can try."

"Oh, I will." Setsuko hopped forwards towards the next prize stall, ready to clear it out of all it's prizes as well.

Two hours later, Setsuko had six bags full of stuffed toys, candy, and prizes that she won throughout the festival. Throughout the time there, Kyoya hadn't left her side once, but he seemed different than usual. She would occasionally look over at him, and each time she did he seemed distracted and worried like his mind was somewhere far away.

"Come on, let's sit down." Setsuko said, dragging Kyoya to a nearby bench and pulling him down onto it. She set the bags at her feet and leaned forwards, resting her hands on her knees as she studied Kyoya, who was once again staring off into the distance. "Something's bothering you, walking around a summer festival with that look on your face is bad luck, you know."

Kyoya looked at her and put a smile on his face, "Nothing is wrong, I assure you."

"Hm, yeah, I'm not buying it. I'm a girl, Kyoya, we're the inventors of 'everything's fine'. Spill it, Kyoya, it's something about that call you got earlier."

"You're not going to drop it, are you?" Kyoya sighed. "I sent out my family's police force yesterday, they didn't find anything."

Setsuko paused, taking a second to process what he said, looking down at her hands. "So, he's still out there, then."

"Akemi-"

Setsuko shook her head, "He's not looking for Itsuki, he's looking for Momoko or Setsuko. I just... have to be careful, right? I've been careful this long what's a few more weeks, or months... maybe a few years..." Setsuko said, her voice cracking. She flinched when she felt a hand on her head, and she looked over at Kyoya.

"You're part of the host club now, we're not going to let anything happen to you."

"Yeah, the club." Setsuko said, she looked up and watched as the flow of festival goers went past them, beyond the crowd she saw Tamaki and the twins at a booth, trying to win one of the prizes hanging at the back. "Kyoya, you think I can trust them, with everything?"

Kyoya followed her gaze, his own eyes landing on the three that Setsuko was watching. "I believe so. Some of them might be blubbering idiots, but they know what's important."

"I guess you have a point. After all they did keep Haruhi's secret for this long. How they've managed to do that? No clue Tamaki calls her a girl around so many people it's shocking." She leaned back against the bench and looked up to the sky. "How'd I even tell them? Like 'surprise, I'm not who you think I am, haha!' It's not going to be that easy, nothing is with this group."

"They'll have to know eventually."

"And they will... eventually." She stood up and huffed, "Alright, enough worrying, we're at a festival. For tonight we're going to enjoy ourselves and I'm going to clean out all the prizes until they chase me out! Come on Kyoya, we've got a lot of stalls to hit before the night ends!"

And just like that for the next hour, Setsuko moved from vendor to vendor and watched as dread highlighted their features a few minutes after she arrived at their stall. As Setsuko was looking for her next victim, there was a loud explosion overhead and her sight was drawn upwards, where she was met with fireworks lighting up the sky.

"Come on, let's find somewhere to watch these." Setsuko said, looking up at Kyoya, "A festival isn't a festival without fireworks!" Without waiting for an answer, she grabbed Kyoya's hand and dragged him towards the edge of the festival, on a small hill behind the stalls. Already people were gathering and looking for places to sit and enjoy the fireworks.

"Isn't this just so romantic, Haruhi? Watching the fireworks of a commoner's festival together means that's we're just meant to be together!" A voice called out, drawing Kyoya and Setsuko's attention.

"Yeah, sure, senpai."

"We want to watch the fireworks with Haruhi too!"

"Look, Takashi, everyone's already here!"

"Mm."

Setuko looked over towards the source of the voices and saw that the rest of the host club standing not too far away from them. Haruhi was trying to push away some prizes that the twins won around the festival while Tamaki was wiggling around with his arms wrapped around himself as he gushed about something or another with Haruhi. Off to the side were Honey and Mori, the smaller of the two boys sitting on the other's shoulders as they both looked towards the sky and watched the colorful display.

"Then, shall we join them?" Kyoya asked, looking towards the group.

Setsuko hesitated for a second before she nodded, "Yeah, we shall."

Kyoya nodded and stepped forwards, his hand slipping from Setsuko's grasp as he walked towards the rest of the hosts. Setsuko stood in her spot for a moment and looked down at her hand, which felt strangely cold with nothing holding onto it. She balled her hand into a fist before looking towards the group and walking forwards, moving to join her friends under the lit-up sky.

The finale of the show was breathtaking, and afterwards the host club sat on the hill as others around them slowly made their way out of the festival.

"Hey, Itsu-chan, what's with all those bags?" Honey asked, looking down at Setsuko with a curious gaze.

Setsuko glanced down at the bags of prizes that were around her and grinned, "These are my spoils of war!" She proclaimed, puffing out her chest proudly.

"Those are the prizes he won before the vendors kicked him out." Kyoya corrected from beside Setsuko.

"I have enough spoils of war to share with each and every one of you." Setsuko said, handing a bag to each host around her. "I put in what I thought you'd all like, so, hope you like them because many people died for these!"

"The only death was the vendor's sprits after you crushed their souls."

"But they were valiant souls that needed to be crushed! Haha!"

"Itsuki."

"Kyoya, if you say anything, I will crush your soul as well."

Kyoya looked at her and just sighed, "I think it's all time we head back for the night, it is getting rather late."

"But I want to stay with Haruhi!" Tamaki whined, jumping forwards, and wrapping his arms around the brunette.

"Get off me senpai, I need to get back to the pension before Misuzu sends out a search party for me." Haruhi said as she shouldered Tamaki off of her and onto the ground, leaving him in the crying pile of sadness and misery.

"It looks like the boss has become a liquid!" Kaoru exclaimed, looking down at the puddle.

"I will never understand how he does that." Setsuko muttered, "And frankly, I don't want to. I'll probably just end up with more questions, like, why would a dumbass create me, why am I inside a fanfic, why the hell am I put through all this? Why are we even here? Just to suffer?!"

"What the hell are you talking about, senpai."

"Nothing you need to concern your pretty little head about, Kaoru my dear."

Haruhi sighed, "I think you're going delusional."

"Going? I've been delusional."

"On that note, I think it's best if we head back to our cottages." Kyoya said.

"Yeah, yeah. Whatever. I'll see you all in the morning... if you survive!" Setsuko waved towards the hosts and started to walk towards the front gates of the festival, where she'd catch a cab to get back to her cottage.

"Survive what?" Tamaki whimpered, getting up from his puddle-like state.

Setsuko just turned and looked at Tamaki, an innocent smile on her face just before she turned back and headed back to her cottage, ignoring the sobbing from Tamaki behind her.

Setsuko: Do you ever want to talk about your emotions, Kyoya?

Kyoya: ... No.

Tamaki: I do!

Setsuko: I know, Tamaki.

Tamaki: I'm sad!

Setsuko: I know, Tamaki.

*Everyone is standing around the broken coffee maker*

Setsuko: So. Who broke it? I'm not mad, I just wanna know.

Everyone:

Haruhi: ...I did. I broke it.

Setsuko: No. No you didn't. Tamaki?

Tamaki: Don't look at me. Look at Kyoya.

Kyoya: What?! I didn't break it.

Tamaki: Huh, that's weird. How'd you even know it was broken?

Kyoya: Because it's sitting right in front of us and it's broken.

Tamaki: Suspicious.

Kyoya: No, it's not!

Hikaru: If it matters, probably not, but Kaoru was the last one to use it.

Kaoru: Liar! I don't even drink that crap!

Hikaru: Oh really? Then what were you doing by the coffee cart earlier?

Kaoru: I use the wooden stirrers to push back my cuticles. Everyone knows that, Hikaru!

Haruhi: Okay let's not fight. I broke it. Let me pay for it, Setsuko.

Setsuko: No! Who broke it!?

Everyone:

Hikaru: Setsuko... Tamaki's been awfully quiet.

Tamaki: rEALLY?!

*Everyone starts arguing*

Setsuko, being interviewed: I broke it. It burned my hand so I punched it.

Setsuko: I predict 10 minutes from now they'll be at each other's throats with warpaint on their faces and a pig head on a stick.

Setsuko:

Setsuko: Good. It was getting a little chummy around here.
