Chapter 17: Spite!
She felt the water pulling her deeper down as she followed after Haruhi. Luckily, she was swimming faster than Haruhi was sinking, and Setsuko caught up to her quickly. She grabbed onto her and started to swim up, feeling the weight of her clothes, the pressure of the binder she was wearing, and the added weight of Haruhi slowly weigh down on her as her swimming speed slowed.
Suddenly, she saw a dark, blurry figure dive into the water. They extended their arms out towards the two and Setsuko moved Haruhi in front of her, pushing her into the figures arm's and watching as they turned and started to swim up to the surface, Haruhi in their arms.
At this point, her lungs were aching for air, but she needed to get to the surface herself. She quickly took off her sandals and watched as they slowly sank towards the ocean floor, she felt bad for leaving them to sit there, but she refused to die at the hands of the ocean. She kicked her legs and started to swim towards the surface, she was slow, and in pain, but she was able to get to the surface and get her head above water.
She took a deep breath of air the moment her head broke the surface and through blurry, hurting, eyes she was able to locate the shore where everyone was standing and started swimming over towards them. She trudged out of the water just barely avoiding being knocked out by the waves and roughly sat down on the shore, taking in the fresh, salty air. She placed a hand on her chest, trying to relieve her of the tightness. As she sat there, she listened in on what the hosts were talking about.
"What were you thinking?" Tamaki was saying, "You know you're not like Honey-senpai. You're not a martial arts master. Why did you confront them? What made you think you would stand a chance against three boys."
"But it doesn't matter that they're boys and I'm a girl. I was there- I had to do something. Besides, I wasn't alone, Itsuki senpai was with me."
"Then you should have let him deal with them." Tamaki said. "Don't forget, you're a girl!"
Setsuko perked up ever so slightly, what did he just say?
"Look, I'm sorry you had to come save me, senpai. I don't think I did anything wrong!"
"You didn't, Haruhi." Setsuko said, getting the attention of the hosts as she pushed herself up and walked to them. She turned her gaze to Tamaki, pure anger blazing within them. "Tamaki's just being a narrow-minded asshole. Tell me, Suoh, when you arrived on the cliff, did you happen to see that two of the boys had already been taken down? I didn't do that alone. Haruhi helped." She stepped forwards, making forcing Tamaki a step back as she jabbed her finger into his chest, "Just because someone is a girl doesn't make them weak, so maybe you should stop being a sexist douchebag and reevaluate your way of thinking. If you can even do something like that."
Tamaki looked down at her, his eyes wide in shock at Setsuko's outburst. She saw him scowl as he regained his composure. "Maybe if you had been stronger, Haruhi wouldn't have been in this mess!" He shouted.
Setsuko let out a shocked laugh, "You're turning this on me?! Oh, I am so sorry I helped Haruhi try to get out of a dangerous situation. I should have just waited until you got there to take down the guys trespassing and harassing some girls! Who knows, maybe the guys would have also just waited for you and the others to get there! Wow! That didn't occur to me! I don't care what you think, but neither Haruhi nor I made a mistake."
"You don't think so? Fine. Whatever you say. But I'm not speaking to either of you until you can admit that you're wrong." Tamaki said, starting to walk back towards the villa.
Setsuko scoffed and crossed her arms, "Fine by me."
"Haruhi, Itsuki, the doctor has arrived, the two of you should get check on." Kyoya said.
"I'm fine, the only think I need is to dry off and change clothes." Haruhi said.
"Same with me."
"Not so fast." Kyoya said, grabbing onto Setsuko's arm and turning her to face him. Before she could move out of the way he grabbed her cheeks and raised her head to look up. At his touch, Setsuko felt her cheeks warm up.
"What the hell are you doing?!" Setsuko asked, trying to pull away from his grip. There was a sudden sting on her chin causing her to wince as she watched Kyoya pull away a hand, something wet and red on his fingertips.
He let go of Setsuko's cheeks and smiled, "I apologize, but I can't allow a club member to have a visible scar."
Setsuko groaned, knowing there was no way she was getting out of this.
***
Setsuko had been led to a bench not that far from the beach, where the doctor was waiting for her with his supplies ready. Haruhi had been able to get out of being checked on so she went back to the villa with the rest of the hosts, leaving Setsuko and Kyoya to see the doctor alone.
Apparently, the scrape on her chin wasn't the only injury she had gotten. There was a rather large scratch on her leg that she hadn't noticed earlier. How she didn't notice the scratch that was caked in sand and trickling blood down her leg, she had no idea. The doctor was quick to disinfect both her injuries and patch them up. She only needed a small patch on her chin and some cotton and gauze around her knee.
Kuwata's not going to be too happy about this. Setsuko thought with a sigh.
"Alright, Mr. Kuwata, you're all cleaned up. Luckily for you none of your injuries look infected, so they should heal up without scarring." He looked up at Setsuko with a smile, "For now, try not to put too much pressure on it and get some rest."
"That's easy to do." Setsuko said.
"If anything happens, don't hesitate to call me." The doctor said packing up his medical kit before standing up and bowing. "Now if you'll excuse me."
Once he was gone, Setsuko let out a sigh of relief and started to stand up, only to feel a hand n her shoulder and someone push her back down. She looked up at him with an unamused expression, "Kyoya, what are you doing?"
"The doctor said you shouldn't put pressure on your leg." He said, pushing up his glasses to catch the light of the setting sun.
"That doesn't mean I can't walk at all. Besides, I have to get back to the villa somehow." She tried to get up again, but before she could push herself off the bench, she was suddenly swept up into the air and found herself being carried bridal style by Kyoya. Immediately she felt her cheeks warm up. "What are you doing?! I didn't break my leg or anything! Let me down!" She raised her fists and hit them against his chest, hoping to make him drop her.
Kyoya just gave her a closed eyed smile, "Doctor's orders."
"Bullshit! He said to be careful, not that I can't walk at all!" She continued pounding her fists against him, but he held onto her steadily, no signs of dropping her as he walked across the sand towards the villa.
His smile fell and he let out a sigh, "I don't know how you beat those boys, Itsuki, your punches are like a child's."
Setsuko tensed and her cheeks puffed in anger as she continued the punch him, "Now you're insulting me?! How do any of the girls even like you?!"
"They fall for my charm, of course."
A look of disgust appeared on Setsuko's face and her fists slowed to a stop. "What charm? You're as charming as demon."
"Some would claim that demons are quite charming."
Setsuko scoffed. "I hate you, mom."
Kyoya looked down at her and let out a sigh, "Why must you and the twins insist on referring to me like that?"
"What? You and Suoh already act like a married couple, so it only fits." She shrugged, "Though don't think I haven't seen the way you look at him," Looking up at him Setsuko grinned and poked his chest, "You like him, don't you?"
This time it was Kyoya's turn to be shocked, and by the way he stopped in his tracks she had struck something within him. "No, not anymore."
Setsuko perked up, and she looked Kyoya in the eyes before following his gaze to the setting sun, the ocean reflecting the oranges and purples of the sky. Unrequited love. It was obvious, with the way Tamaki acted towards Haruhi there was no doubt that the idiot liked her even if he wasn't able to realize it himself. "I know that feeling all too well, I liked someone once too, but she didn't return the sentiment, so I decided to move on and find someone better."
"Have you found them, yet?"
"No. But they're out there." She smiled and watched as the sun disappeared beyond the horizon. "And the same goes for you. Just wait, Kyoya, you'll find the perfect guy."
***
Kyoya finally let her down when they reached the entrance to the villa.
"I'm going to change out of these clothes before heading to the dining hall." Setsuko said, raising her hand before walking off towards her room.
The first thing Setsuko did when she entered her room was rush to the bathroom and grab a small disposable cup. She dug around in her toiletries bag until she found what she was looking for. Carefully, and slowly she took out her colored contacts, putting them in the case with the contact solution, and lifted the now water filled cup to her eyes and washed out anything that might be harmful to them. She let out a content sigh as the dull pain washed away and she dried her face with a nearby towel.
It didn't take long to peel the wet and sandy clothes off of her before she unzipped the binder. She turned on the shower and placed it in, rinsing out all the sand and saltwater that had soaked into it. If she tried to put it on after rinsing it out, she'd for sure damage it. She'll have to find some other way to hide her chest.
After carefully rinsing off the saltwater and sand from her own body she wrapped herself in a towel and stepped into her room before looking through her bag to see if she had any baggy shirts.
Eventually she found a sports bra, and a short sleeved black button up shirt and a hoodie a few sizes too big. Perfect. She quickly got dressed in the clothes, along with some jeans. Making sure her chest was relatively flat, she decided she was okay to go out and started to head out, until she realized she forgot something. Her contacts . She quickly rushed back to her bathroom and put in a different pair, her eyes once again becoming brown. Now she was ready.
She made her way from her room to the dining room, where everyone had already sat down, the moment she stepped inside she was immediately hit with the tension that was hanging in the air.
"Sorry I'm late." She said as she walked to the table and sat down beside Kyoya.
"Now that Itsu-chan is here, let's dig in." Honey said, trying to remove the cloud of tension. He lifted one of the crabs, "These are the crabs we caught today, I bet they're delicious!"
Haruhi just silently grabbed a crab leg and snapped it open, causing Tamaki to flinch beside her. She took a bite of the meat and nodded before finishing the meat on that leg and moving onto the second. "Wow, these crabs, taste in-crab-ible! Get it?"
Everyone just sat and watched as Haruhi kept grabbing crab legs, breaking the open, and scarfing them down. One, two, three, four-
"Haruhi, you should really slow down. Eating that much sea-food can make you really sick." Setsuko said, pausing from breaking open her own crab leg. "If you're doing this to spite, Suoh, I get it, but don't make yourself sick over it."
"Don't worry, senpai, I'll be fine." Haruhi said, waving her off.
"Itsuki's right, don't you think you've had enough. Give it a rest." Tamaki said, obviously horrified about the pile of crab legs that had been built up on his plate.
"Excuse me, I thought that you weren't speaking to me." Haruhi said, breaking open another crab leg, causing Tamaki to flinch.
"You... trying to be cute?" Tamaki asked. When the only response he got was a side glance, he jumped up and slammed his napkin down on the table. "Okay, since you seem to refuse to admit that you were wrong. See if I care, then- I'm going to bed. Kyoya, would you show me to my room, please?"
Kyoya grabbed his own napkin and dabbed at his lips. "Of course. Excuse me, everyone."
Setsuko watched as the two of them walked out of the room and she let out a sigh. Across from her Haruhi put down the crab leg she was holding and let out a quiet sigh. "Maybe, he's right, maybe I do need to learn a way to protect myself. If you weren't there, senpai, I don't know what would have happened."
"So that's it; he got to you, huh?" The twins said.
"Well it wouldn't hurt you to learn martial arts or something." Hikaru said.
"But it's not like we're going to force you to learn it." Kaoru added.
"Besides, that's not the real issue here." The two of them finished together.
"To be honest, we were all a little worried about how recklessly you acted." Hikaru said.
"What do you mean? I didn't cause you guys any trouble or anything." Haruhi said, causing the twins to look at each other and shrug.
"That's not true, Haru-chan." Honey interjected, "I think you should apologize, okay? You made us all worry. Especially Tama-chan. I think you need to apologize to him the most."
"So you... were worried about me? But why?" Haruhi asked.
Is she really that dense? "Because we care about you." Setsuko said bluntly. "I don't agree with everything that Suoh said to you, and it pains me to say this, but he made a few... decent... points."
"You think? Guys, I'm really sorry."
Suddenly, all the other hosts stood up and were surrounding her, the twins and Honey wrapping their arms around her in a hug and Mori standing behind her eating... a whole crab? Was he eating that thing the entire time? He didn't even break it apart-
"Aw, apology accepted, you little mutt!" The Hikaru said.
"You're so cute. We forgive you!" Kaoru added.
It wasn't long before a look of discomfort crossed Haruhi's face. "I'm not feeling so good." She groaned.
"You ate way too much seafood." Setsuko said. She stood up from where she was sitting and pushed her way past the twins and placed a hand on Haruhi's shoulder, "Let's get you to the closest bathroom before you hurl on one of us."
Haruhi nodded, her complexion growing paler by the second. The two of them rushed out of the dining room and down the hallway- where they entered the first room and Haruhi rushed into the bathroom, shutting the door behind her. The moment Setsuko heard hurling she took a step back and let out a sigh of relief. They made it just in time.
"I don't really appreciate surprise intrusions." A voice said and Setsuko looked deeper into the room to see a shirtless Kyoya drying his hair with a towel. He must have just showered.
"Yeah, sorry. It was either her hurl on the carpet or in the toilet, and I feel you might add to the debt if it were the former." Setsuko said.
"... You do have a point." Kyoya said. There was a sudden loud hurling sound from the bathroom, and he glanced towards the door, "Is she alright?"
"She's fine. Too much seafood." Setsuko said with a shrug. She walked over to him and sat on the edge of the bed in the room; she might as well sit down while she's waiting for Haruhi. "You know, I almost didn't recognize you without your glasses."
"Do I really look that different?"
"Different enough that I can understand why girls would fall for you. You're not that bad looking." Setsuko shrugged. "Maybe you aren't entirely a demon. Though don't let that get to your head."
"Of course not." Kyoya said, the corners of his mouth twitching into a small smirk.
The door to the bathroom opened and Haruhi stepped out, wiping her mouth with a hand towel. She looked much better than she did before. She looked inside the room where Setsuko and Kyoya were sitting, her eyes landing on Kyoya.
"I apologize, sir, I didn't mean to intrude." She said, bowing her head towards Kyoya.
"Don't be silly, it's just me." Kyoya said.
"Don't worry, I didn't recognize him either." Setsuko said, waving her hand dismissively.
"Oh, Kyoya-senpai." Haruhi said, "Senpai, I'm sorry. I really didn't mean to make everybody worry about me today."
"Thanks, but I wasn't especially worried." Kyoya said, getting up from where he was sitting.
"Rude much?" Setsuko asked, standing up as well.
"Although, I did have a hard time separating Kaoru and Hikaru from those punks. Not to mention refraining myself from injuring them any further as well." He started to walk towards Haruhi, "And because of you and Itsuki, I had to send each of the girls a bouquet of flowers to apologize. They've been looking forward to this trip and we don't want to disappoint them."
"Well, good for you." Setsuko said, walking over and standing beside Haruhi, "Now don't you dare add those flowers onto Haruhi's debt, she's been through enough today. If you insist on being paid back for them, I'll pay for those flowers, it is my fault too anyways."
Kyoya looked from Haruhi to Setsuko. He closed his eyes in thought for a second before nodding, "You're quite honorable, but are you sure you're willing to pay 600,000 yen?"
600,000 yen? Was he sending them entire greenhouses? Setsuko thought as she sighed and nodded, "Yeah, I'm sure."
"Then, Haruhi, you'd better get back to your room and rest. Itsuki and I will discuss the terms of payment."
"You sure about this, senpai? That's a lot of money." Haruhi said.
Setsuko looked at her and grinned, "I'm sure! I'm not going to let Kyoya stick you with even more debt."
Kyoya looked at her before adjusting his glasses and giving the two his signature smirk, "Of course. Go get some rest, Haruhi."
Haruhi looked from Setsuko to Kyoya before nodding. "Then I'll see you two in the morning."
Setsuko yawned, "Yeah, sleep well Haruhi. I think I'm headed to bed as well."
"Not yet." Kyoya said, "Itsuki, we still need to talk about payment."
"Maybe tomorrow, preferably when you have a shirt on? I'm headed to bed before I commit a war crime." She raised her hand and started to walk out of the room. Though she soon realized that was a mistake. A hand clasped around her wrist, and she was pushed towards the wall, a shadow fell over her as her back was pressed against the wall. "Hey, uh, so, what the fuck Kyoya?"
"It's honorable for you to pay in Haruhi's place, but are you sure you can just hand over 600,000 yen? You could always pay me back in other ways." With his other hand he reached towards the lightswitch and turned off the lights, leaving the two of them in a dark room.
"Other ways? Kyoya, if you're insinuating what I think you are, I will make you regret it." She looked up and gave him an innocent smile, "Try to go any further and you can say goodbye to any chance of having any biological children!" A bright flash filled the room from outside and the sound of thunder boomed overhead. Kyoya's eyes widened slightly before he let out a quiet chuckle and released her. "Good choice. Anyways, night, Kyoya~!" She turned and walked out of them room, heading back to her own room.
Standing in the doorway, Kyoya watched as Setsuko walked down the hall, her form slowly getting further and further away. "What an interesting girl you are, Akemi."
***
The next morning, Setsuko was woken up by her alarm and she slowly started to get dressed and pack her stuff back up. They were going to be heading back to Tokyo that morning, since they did all have school the next day.
"Itsuki, mind if we come in?" Two voices called and a second later the door flung open, and the twins stepped inside.
"Yeah, sure, just let yourselves in. Why even ask?" Setsuko said, watching them with an unamused expression as they invited themselves in.
"Hey, you hear what happened last night?" Hikaru asked.
"Tamaki tried to do something perverted to Haruhi."
"As if I need another reason to hate him. Tell me, what did he do?" Setsuko asked, turning and looking at the twins.
"We went in to check on Haruhi last night and we saw him putting a blindfold and some headphones on her." Hikaru started.
"They were in a completely dark room too. Talk about perverted." Kaoru finished.
"Did he now?" Setsuko asked darkly.
***
Eventually it was time for all of them to get into the limo and leave. As Setsuko was walking out, she could hear Tamaki pleading with Haruhi about what had happened the night before.
"I wasn't doing anything freaky; I was trying to help you! Itsuki, you forgive me, right?" He asked, as Setsuko walked past him towards the limo.
Setsuko stopped in her tracks and glanced at him through the corner of her eye. "Pervert." She watched in amusement as he flinched and grew pale before she turned and got into the limo. A minute later they were off, with Tamaki running behind them trying to catch up.
He deserved it.
__
And so, the Tamaki slander has started.
**
Setsuko: I just ended a four year relationship.
Haruhi: Oh, I'm so sorry. Are you okay?
Setsuko: Hm? Oh yeah, I'm fine. It wasn't my relationship.
*Kyoya and Tamaki fighting from across the room*
*
Haruhi: Why is Setsuko crying on the floor?
Kyoya: They took one of those 'what person are you?' quizzes.
Haruhi: And?
Kyoya: They got Tamaki.
*
Setsuko: Here's a fun Christmas idea. We hang mistletoe, but instead of kissing, you have to FIGHT whoever else is under it.
Kaoru: Setsuko no.
Mori: Mistlefoe.
Kaoru: Please stop encouraging her.
