Hide and seek

I'm a single mother with a 5 year old daughter, who is full of surprises. She always wants to play, and she enjoys sneaking up on people, playing tricks, etc. The other day, she wanted to play with me, but I was busy with housework. I told her to go play in her room for the moment. It took a small amount of time, but she eventually agreed to go play in her room while I finished doing chores.
I was finishing up the dishes, the last household chore for the day, when I started to feel bad that I hadn't played with her all day. I'm her only family since her father left, and she doesn't have many new friends in this new town. I washed the last dish and went into her room to look for her.
But she wasn't there. I decided she must have went to the basement to watch tv, but when i checked, she wasn't there either.
I checked the entire house but I couldn't find her. I started to become panicked.
I started calling out her name. "Linsey, where ARE you?" I called as I walked past the kitchen. Suddenly, from the kitchen, I heard a muffled "I don't knoooowwwww~~"
I felt relieved. I walked into the kitchen, but I didn't see her there. "Linsey, are you in here?" I called out.
Again, I heard "I don't knooooww---"
I looked down. It was coming from the cabinet underneath the sink. I smirked and knelt down to be eye level with the cabinet door that sat about 6 feet away from me.
"Honey, what are you doing under there?"
"I don't knoooooww--"
I smiled and laughed. "You had me worried! I couldn't find you anywhere!" She didn't reply. I blew some hair out of my face. "Why don't you come out from under there and we can go watch Spongebob on Nickelodeon together?" There was silence still. The whole thing didn't really feel right to me. I began feeling more uneasy.
"Linsey, it's time to come out." I shouted. Nothing.
In frustration, I grabbed the handle of the cabinet door and began opening it. Until I heard the front door open and close. I froze in my spot and stood up, walking over to the hall outside the kitchen. My stomach sank. My daughter stood there with a smile, covered in mud. "Hi Mom!" She said cheerfully. I looked into the kitchen at the slightly open cabinet door where the voice was coming from.
I saw a pale, long fingered hand with long black nails slowly come out from the small space in the door, grab the handle, and then shut the cabinet door as slow as it could.
My daughter and I have been staying in a hotel room ever since while I decide what to do next.
