Chapter XIV

Poisoned, Again?
_________________________________________

Location; Hermitcraft

POV; Grian

I giggle to myself as I throw a ton chicken eggs into a sandstone box that I've built over MumboJumbo's base.

I've had my chicken farm in the basement of my base for some time now. It's great that I finally found a good use for all of the eggs I've managed to collect.

After a few more stacks of eggs, I know that I've filled the small sandstone box to the maximum when the small chickens explode from entity cramming.

I place a sandstone block on the top, sealing the chickens inside. I hop down onto the concrete of Mumbo's base, and break the extra blocks I had placed to get up to the box that was now floating a few blocks up.

I miss swing however and accidentally break one of the sandstone blocks keeping the chickens inside the box. I quickly replace the block just in time, resulting in none of the chickens escaping.

I take a few steps back to admire my work. The sandstone chicken bomb was a great idea. I can't wait for Mumbo's reaction to it.

I reach my hand up and wipe the sweat off of my forehead with my sleeve I satisfaction. Time to go back to my base so I can finish working on the infinity meeting room.

I plan to discuss more about the future projects for Architects, which is Mumbo's and my team name.

Swiftly, I make my way to my base in no time. I did hit one of the levels on my way down to the main floor with my elytra, but all in all it was successful.

I run over to the entrance of the meeting room and drop down into it. The blaring white walls completely disorienting you.

Thankfully, I have two chairs in the room that give your eyes something to focus on so you don't go insane at the blank white emptiness of the room.

I walk over to one side of the room and place the last map in the item frame. The room was now complete, all I have to do now is wait for when Mumbo comes over for the meeting.

Right as my hands leave the map however, a sharp pain spikes in my stomach. I cry out and clutch my abdomen.

The pain continues and I feel tears start to form and slip down my cheeks. Another wave of pain comes and I drop to the floor on my knees.

My internal organs are throbbing with pain and I scream through the agony. I clench my fists tight to try and bare the torment. My cries continue though, and I cough from the strain in my throat.

I feel the warm sensation of blood spilling down my chin, out of my mouth. I lean over still grapsing my torso tightly as the coughing continues.

Soon, there is a small puddle of blood around me, completely staining the solid white floor. My finger nails dig into my sides as the pain goes on still.

Not much longer, I feel myself start to go light headed. I've stopped coughing, but the iron smell and taste is still very strong.

The world around me starts to flicker and dim around the edges. The pain in my body starts to fade, whether it be because it's finally going away. Or I'm fainting.

Soon my question is answered, as the world tilts to the side, and everything goes dark.

•>><<\['°-°']/>><<•

Slowly, I open my eyes through the stifling headache I'm having. I quickly close them again though at the bright white I saw.

But that wasn't the only color, there was also a substantial amount of red. 'Blood' I realize.

My mind fills with the memories of pain and coughing. Carefully, I open my eyes again and sit up slowly with my palm pressed against my head.

The pain is mostly gone now, though it's still there. 'I wonder how long I passed out for?' I remember the meeting I am to have with Mumbo and lift my wrist to check my communicator for the time.

'Oh good, I've still got thirty minutes.' I lift myself up onto one knee and slowly stand up.

I'm a bit wobbly, but I'll survive. I look down at the mess below me. 'I should clean this up soon before Mumbo gets here."

I carefully walk over to the exit of the room to go gather a bucket of water and some sponges. The room spins a little and I slow my pace.

I have to be cautious, I don't know what happened and I definitely don't want it to happen again.

After slowly walking around my base and collecting the items required, I head back to the meeting room and clean up the blood so Mumbo doesn't see it.

By now I'm just plain tuckered out, so I go back upstairs to my bed. I plop myself on it and lean my back against the headboard.

I remember Xisuma saying something about a function in my communicator that allowed me to view my health status. I sit up a little better in my bed as I open my communicator.

The holographic screen glows bright as I click on the personal stats section. Automatically, a small 3D module appears of myself.

Along the side of it, is a list of information. I quickly scan through it all until my eyes land on a particular part of the information that was glowing an angry red.

I feel the color drain from my face as I read the text in bright red.

ERROR-|-CORRUPTED

The message was right next to the section that displayed my code. I felt panic surge through me.

The code of a player was the very fundamentals that make them unique. If my code was corrupted, it could result in a permadeath.

I take in a shaky breath, now to figure out the next question. How did my code get corrupted? My eyes trace back to where I first noticed the corruption and I look for a reason.

After a few minutes, nothing really informative is found. I did find that whatever is causing this is somehow related to a mod or data pack that is installed on the server.

My communicator buzzes suddenly, scaring me out of my thoughts. I switch back over to chats and notice that the message was from Mumbo.

<MumboJumbo> Hey, you ready for the meeting?

I quickly type my reply.

<Grian> Yeah! Head over when you're ready.

I sigh and turn off my communicator. Now just to endure the meeting with Mumbo and hope that I don't have another coughing fit.

POV; EX

It's been a day since the virus, and I've been working nonstop with Xisuma to try and uninstall the coruptive mod.

If the Admins knew I was a Watcher, why haven't they come to kill me yet? Better question, why haven't they at least talked to Xisuma about it.

He would have surely been arrested, scratch that, he would have been killed! The Watchers have been at war for years now against the Admins.

I have no doubt they would have eliminated a traitor in a heart beat. But they didn't. Instead, they put full trust in a virus that didn't even work.

"Okay, I'm gonna take a break." I reach up both of my arms and stretch, "You should too, it's been a long day." I say to Xisuma.

Xisuma doesn't even look up as he responds. "You can go, I'll continue to work." He squints at a line of code on the screen he was using.

"Nope" I say to X while standing up and crossing my arms. "You're taking a break as well."

Xisuma sighs and closes his screen down. He looks up at me and shakes his head.

"I have to finish this, then fix a couple glitches that popped up on the server. I can't rest now, I've got work to do." He says.

"We've been working on that for hours now. It can wait, and Rumba-or whatever you call him can take care of the glitches."

Xisuma hides a smile, "It's Tango, not Rumba."

"Yeah, whatever same thing." I say.

After much more convincing, I finally get Xisuma to go take a nap. Now, to figure out of the Grain character had anymore cookies.

I leave Xisuma's base and look up at the dark sky. With a quick look at my communicator, I see that me, X, and Grain were the only ones on the server. Mumbo had just logged off.

I leap off of the ground and prepare to open my elytra and blast off in the direction of Grain's base. I quickly realize I don't have rockets in my inventory and am now falling straight down to the ocean.

I unequip my elytra and in a heartbeat I have my wings in its place. With a powerfully flap, I'm back up in the sky. The moon light glistens off of the dark purple feathers of my wings.

I sigh, it's so much easier to fly with my wings, but I can't risk being found out. If one of the Hermits were to find out, they would tell the Admins for sure.

When I get to Grain's base, I'll borrow some of his rockets so I can switch to my elytra. The flight to his base is short, and soon, I'm there.

POV; Grian

"Bye Mumbo!" I call after him. He waves back at me, before blasting off to his base, then logging off for the day.

I release a breath that I didn't realize I've been holding. That was an event, at least I was able to discuss with Mumbo about our plans for the season.

Now I'm just tired, and hungry. I walk over to a chest and dig around in it till I find a few golden carrots. I grab them and lean against the chest. My vision suddenly starts to go blurry around the edges and I stand up straight in panic.

'Not again! Not again!' I think as I quickly rush over to the the basement entrance of my base. Of course, things only get worse as I here a voice calling out my name.

'How did I not hear them arrive?' I'm sure if I heard rockets I wound have noticed their arrival.

I drop the carrots and start to run to the basement. Out of the corner of my eye, I can see a figure in red armor tilting their head at me.

I continue to ignore him and rush to the opening that leads down. A panicked look spreads across my face. If EX finds out about my corrupted code, no doubt he would look into it and find that I'm a Watcher.

Just as I'm about to reach the entrance to the basement, dark purple chains wrap around me and I'm halted to a stop.

"NO!" I cry, "Let me go!" In my panic I let out a burst of magic and break the chains surrounding me.

In a swift motion, I turn around and face my attacker. EX was facing me a few blocks away with dark purple wings spread out from his back.

His hands were alight with Watcher magic. EX had an angered look on his face. "How did you get on this server!?" He yelled.

I take a few steps backwards, "I don't know, it was an accident!" I shout back. It was no longer a game of hide and seek. Now it was a game of tag.

Before I can even make a move to run, EX has already leaped forward into action.

I'm tackled to the ground and we roll a few blocks before I quickly get up. My vision has gotten worse and I'm starting to get weak.

EX gets up too, and fires a blast of magic at me. I raise my hands and put up a feeble excuse of a sheild.

It works though, but not for long. EX is already back at it, and before I know it, I'm back on the ground.

This time through, EX is stepping on my arm and has a magic charge aimed at my face.

I feel blood leak from my mouth and cough it out, only making things worse. EX is staring down at me, with the intent to kill.

"Drop the glamor, you have no escape." He orders.

I do as he says. My eyes turning purple and my Watcher mark appearing on my hand. The blood dripping down my chin no doubt also turning purple.

EX studies me for a moment longer before asking me a question. "What's Aiden's plan? Seeing as there's no chance of you getting out of this, its best you answer truthfully."

I gulp, "I don't know his plan. I escaped before he told me anything." I answer.

His eyes narrow, "You, escaped?"

I nod my head vigorously, which turned out to be an extremely bad idea as it made my head hurt ten times worse than it already did.

"So...you're not on Aiden's side?" EX asks me.

"Yes, why would I be on his side?" I reply.

"Well, you're a Watcher." He answers.

"You are too" I point out.

EX thinks for a moment before saying, "I'm only free because I killed my supervisor on a mission once. You don't seem like the type who would do that."

My eyes widen, and I was about to say something when another coughing fit came over me.

EX quickly steps back and helps me to sit up. The world around my fades in and out of vision as I'm helped up.

The coughing is worse this time around, and I have to lean forward with the toll it's taking on my body.

I don't know what EX is doing, but it's something with his communicator. The pain gets worse, and I feel myself weakening to the extent of passing out.

My vision and hearing have both disappeared, leaving me in complete darkness with not a sound to be heard.

In what feels like forever, I can faintly hear someone gasp before, feel I hand on my shoulder and someone placing another on my stomach.

My coughing starts to stop, and my breathing evens out. The pain fades and my vision slowly returns.

Soon, it's all stopped and I can hear someone repeatedly saying it's gonna be okay, it's over now.

Weakly, I open my eyes to see a worried Xisuma infront of me. He pulls out a cloth and wipes some of the blood off my face. EX is helping me to sit up from behind.

"It's okay, you're okay now." Xisuma says reassuringly. He presses a button on the side of his helmet and does a quick look over.

"You're code took substantial damage, but with some rest. You'll be okay." He says, though a tear slips down his face. I can barely see it from under his visor.

"EX, can you please bring Grian back to my base, I would ask Stress, but I don't want to reveal him just yet." Xisuma aks EX.

EX must have nodded his head, because I'm soon lifted up bridal style and carried back to Xisuma's base.

There, Xisuma leads EX to a bedroom where I'm placed on a bed. Xisuma brings the blankets up, and thanks EX. "You get some rest now, you can talk when you wake up." He says.

Xisuma places a gentle hand on my forehead, and the world goes dark.
