Chapter VI

A Dangerous Hiest
_________________________________________

Location; Watcher Academy

POV; Third-person

Footsteps ring out throughout the walkways as a Watcher walks down one.

They are walking with a purpose, headed toward Zayne's office.

They reach the door to his office and knock.

"Come in" A voice says from the other side of the door.

The Watcher opens the door and walks through, they walk over to the desk where Zayne is sitting.

"What do you need Morden?" Zayne asks him.

"The Admin, Xelqua has gone against our rules and has been punished for his actions." Morden says to Zayne.

"Thank you for telling me this, I'll pass it on to Prince Aiden. You can leave now." Zayne says.

Morden nodded his head, then turned around and left the room.

Zayne telepathically calls the Prince and asks him to come to Zayne's office.

A moment later, Prince Aiden appears out of a cloud of purple mist.

A few moments later, after Zayne told the Prince about what happened, he spoke.

"So, the Admin continues to defy us even though he's been here for almost a month now." The Prince muses out loud.

"Are you sure what we're doing is necessary?" Zayne asks hesitantly.

"Of course it is!" Prince Aiden says while slaming his fist down on Zayne's desk.

Zayne cowered back in fear at the noise, and as the Prince stood up straighter.

"There is clear evidence that the Admin is hiding something, and there's no way he'll tell me what that is." The Prince says.

"I plan to use Achlys' flower on the Admin, but it needs to be done discreetly." Prince Aiden says.

"Ah, I see now. That will slowly corrupt his mind." Zayne says.

"The poison feeds off fear and anger. I have ordered the Watchers, specifically Morden, to treat the Admin worse than the others." Aiden says, smiling.

Zayne leans back in his chair and presses his finger tips together.

Their plan was going smoothly, all they had to do was get Xelqua poisoned, with a flower.

POV; Grian/Xelqua

I look out of the window in my room. There is no one in sight.

I turn my head and look back over to the clock on a stand next to my bed.

The clock read 2:00 a.m.

I sigh, and walk back over to my bed and lay down.

I roll onto my side and fiddle with the bandages I wrapped around my forearms.

I had found the bandages in my bathroom under the sink.

After Morden had left, I went and found them.

The Watchers here treated me horribly. They believed that you learn from your pain and scars.

I look over to my desk piled high with books for the sessions I have to take here.

I turn my head to the bookcase I've had since I first got here.

I remember looking at one of the books in the case. Zayne had come into my room before I could read the book though.

I was able to read one name though, Zelda.

'Zelda, another word (though this time a name), that makes me feel like I'm supposed to remember something but can't.'

I sit up on my bed with my feet off the edge.

Maybe I can read the book now and learn something.

I stand up, and walk over to the bookcase to get the book from last time.

I open the case and look for it.

'It's not there.' I realize. Someone must have taken it.

I slam the case shut with frustration. 'Where could the book be now.'

The book has the answers about what's going on, I know it.

'Probably the library'

I walk over to my door on my way to go to the library and get the book, but stop myself.

It's 2:15 in the morning, I'll have to get the book later after I've slept.

'But wait, that still won't work. I'm only allowed to go places with an escort, and now that I'm being punished I doubt I'm allowed in the library.'

'Guess I'll have to steal the book now.' I shrug.

I look around my room for anything I might need.

I find a few items that could potentially be of use.

When I'm finished collecting the items, I open my door out into the corridor.

I close my door behind me quietly, and crouch down into the shadows.

The hallways are dark, and I can barely see anything more than 5 feet infront of me.

I remember hearing something about night vision potions, if only I had one now.

I sneak my way through the corridors until I hear footsteps approaching me.

I turn and duck into a door way. I'm hidden in the shadows so I can't be seen.

The footsteps that were approaching me belonged to a Watcher guard who walked the corridors at night to make sure everyone was in bed.

'This is it, I'm gonna get caught.' I close my eyes tight and hold as still as possible.

The Watcher soon passed me and I let go of a breath I didn't realize I was holding.

I leave my hiding spot a few moments after I couldn't hear their footsteps any more.

I crept along the walls until I came to a set of double doors.

'The library, finally.'

I look to my right, then to my left to make sure I'm still hidden.

I grab with one of my hands the doorknob of one the doors and turn it.

I try to open the door but the door doesn't move.

'Of course the doors locked.' I roll my eyes.

The Watcher mark on my hand glows as I use my Watcher magic to unlock the door.

The door soon unlocks and I stop using my magic. I walk into the room and gently close the door behind me.

"Ok, time to find the book." I whisper to myself.

I search along the isles of books for a few hours till I give up and return to the center of the library.

I walk over to the desks that are used for studying and look for the book there, it wasn't.

I sigh and turn slowly on my heels, looking around the library in a circle.

My eyes land on the librarians desk.

I walk over to it and search for the book there.

I lift some of the papers off of the desk and knock a bunch of dust into the air.

I sneeze when I inhaled the dust then quickly covered my mouth with my hand.

I heard a noise, and it sounded like it came from somewhere else in the library.

I stand there frozen in silence, waiting for another noise, but nothing comes.

I decide to shrug it off, and continue my search for the book on the desk.

I look under all the papers scattered across the desk and find nothing.

I decide to search the drawers as well. I walk around behind the desk and open the draws.

I found nothing in the drawers.

'Hmmm, where could the book be?' I question myself.

I think to myself for a minute before I realize something.

The desk had a secret compartment. It was built with a really thick desk top, big enough for a little compartment.

I lift my hand to feel the underside of the desk and feel a handle.

I smile wide and open the hidden compartment.

Something sharp suddenly slices hand and I pull away in pain.

I hiss and look down at my hand, it had been cut by something under the desk.

I had fallen down from my crouched position when I jurked back, now I try to sit up and see what hurt me.

A noise makes me stop again and look around.

This time the sound gets closer and I realize what it is.

Footsteps are coming closer to me. I try to scoot under the desk before I'm spotted, but I'm to slow.

A hand reaches out and grabs me by my shoulder.

I'm pulled out and up from behind the desk and forced down into the librarians chair.

"What do you think you're doing?!" Noelani whisper hisses at me.

"I'm-I'm trying to find a book." I whisper back at her.

"Do you know what would have happened if you got caught?!" She hisses at me.

"What do you mean, I was caught, by you." I say back confused.

"Haven't you realized I'm on your side." She says while rolling her eyes.

My eyes go wide with shock. "You're on my side?!" I almost shout.

Noelani quickly covered my mouth with her hand.

"Ssshhh, do you want us to get caught?" She whispers sternly at me.

"

You're on my side?" I whisper really quietly from under her hand.

"Yes, I'm on your side. Now will you be quiet?" She asks me.

I nod my head with her hand still across my mouth.

She nods in satisfaction and lifts her hand off of my mouth and sighs.

Noelani then looks down and notices my wrapped arms and bleeding hand.

She sighs again and gently lifts my hand up into her sight better.

"I cut it on something from under  the desk." I answer her unasked question.

Noelani nods her head and looks back up at me.

"I'm going to have to treat this back at the Medbay." She says to me.

I try to look at her eyes but it's hard because of her mask.

"But, we're all the way over in the library." I say to her.

She smiles mischievously and places a hand on my shoulder.

A slight tingle spreads across my whole body and a bright light flashes in my face.

Suddenly I'm standing but I almost fall over, thankfully Noelani helps me stand and leads me over to a cot.

She teleported us to the Medbay.

Noelani un wraps my bandages around my arms and clicks her tongue.

"Morden was just going to let these scar, wasn't he?" She asks me.

"Yes." I mumble back.

Noelani sighs, and grabs an ointment from the shelf next to the cot.

She applies some to both of my arms and rubs it in like a lotion.

Noelani then wraps them both up and starts to work on my hand which She previously did a quick wrap on.

She undoes the wrap and walks over to get a new bandage. She puts a liquid on the gauze and walks back over to me.

I don't question her as she puts the gauze on my hand and wraps the new bandage around my hand.

"Oh, um, I have some tea that'll help you rest." Noelani says while walking over out of my sight before returning with a cup of tea.

"I'm good, thanks." I say back.

"Oh but I insist." She says, forcing the cup into my hands.

I sigh and give in, I drink the cup of tea and Noelani smiles with satisfaction.

"You should probably be getting back to your room now." Noelani says while rubbing one of her arms and not meeting eye contact.

"Okay." I say back slowly. She was acting fishy.

She nods her head and leads my to the doorway.

"Your room isn't to far, you can make it if you're quiet." Noelani says to me.

"Got it." I say.

She nods her head still with her head facing the floor.

I walk over to the door and open it. I turn back to face Noelani.

"Thanks for helping me and not calling me out." I say to her.

"Your welcome." She says, but it looks like what I said only made her act even weirder.

I sneak my way all the way back to my room and sit on my bed.

'She was acting funny, but she did say she was on my side.' I ponder the events before I slap my forehead with my palm.

'I didn't even get the stupid book.'

I sigh and look over at my clock, 2 good hours wasted on nothing.

I hiss suddenly from the pain on my hand.

I should probably get some rest.

I lay down on my bed and close my eyes. Soon, I'm fast asleep with not a worry in my heart.

~Mean while back in the Medbay~

A nervous Watcher stands bitting her nails as she is told by another Watcher that she did well.
