Chapter III

Misery and Magic
_________________________________________

Location; ???

POV; Grian

I wake up on a cold and hard floor, still with my eyes closed.

I hear voices talking so I focus on what they're saying rather than how much pain I'm in.

"How long have they been out for?" I hear one of the voices ask.

"A few hours, should be waking up soon." Another one says back. I recognize it as the voice of the first Watcher that entered my server.

'My server, how could I have forgotten about that?' The pain from the days early events catches up and I feel like the whole world just fell on me.

'They're gone, stuck there without an Admin. They won't be able to get to the Portal Hub without an Admin.'

"Hey, I think I just saw that one move." One of the Watchers says.

"You awake?" They ask me.

"And don't bother lying, it won't help at all. It will just make us mad at you, and believe me, you don't want us mad." Another one said.

At this point, I'm gonna guess that there is probably 5 give or take, Watchers in the room.

"I'm awake." I say while sitting up. I'm careful as to do so slowly to not get a head rush. Unfortunately, I was unsuccessful.

I look around the room, turning my head slowly to not make my headache worse.

The room we were in appeared to be about the size of a basketball court.

It had purpur walls and an endstone floor. There were windows along the walls, evenly spaced.

There was a door at one end of the room and another door at the opposite side.

The Watchers, were standing along one side of the room where a stage about a couple steps higher than the floor was.

I had guessed correctly when I said five Watchers were in the room.

"Oh goodie, one of them woke up." One of the Watchers said. She was a little to happy for it to be comforting though.

"Why did you bring us here?" I ask. Gesturing to the others on the ground around me.

There was about 30 of us laying on the ground, probably all having gone through a situation similar to mine.

"I'm sure you have questions and want answers. But you are going to have to wait, no questions will be answered until you're all awake." A new voice said.

He appeared out of mist just like the other Watchers had back at EVO.

The new Watcher was dressed formally like he was a king, but he didn't have a crown.

"Wake up everyone, your lives are about to change quite dramatically and you don't want to miss a word of what I'm about to say." He says sternly.

Right on cue, everyone else that hadn't woken up yet, did.

After all eyes were on the new Watcher, he cleared his throat and began speaking.

"There, much better. Now I'm sure you have questions but I'm on a time crunch and need to inform you of what's going on as quickly as possible."

Several nods were seen throughout our group of players before he began again.

"Ok, first off, yes you're never going to see your servers again or the Players there."

Murmuring was heard through the group of players.

"Second, you are now going to be trained to become Watchers. A few of my scouts have sensed potential in you all, and I believe it is your potential to be Watchers.

As you become Watchers, you will go through a process where you are exposed to pure magic, after that you will be trained in a type of school where you will learn how to control your new powers.

You are expected to only speak in galactic, which will be mandatory as one of your classes.

And finally, I am Prince Aiden of the Watcher Kingdom. If you disrespect me or any of my followers you will be executed."

Nods and mumbled agreements were heard throughout our group before the Prince held his hand up to say something more.

"I wish you all the best of luck, knowing that only a few of you will survive the process." The Prince said.

He then spread his arms out wide and then seemed to concentrate on something ahead of him.

Then, his hands and assumingly his eyes behind his mask lit up with magic. The light purple glow spread across the room in a mist the same shade of color.

The mist seed to have some sort of magical property because those that the mist spread to first started coughing and choking like it was suffocating them.

I backed away from the mist trying to get as far as possible.

Watchers apparently had guessed that some Players would try to escape the mist though, and had blocked us all in with a wall made of magic.

"No, let me out!" I cry as I pound against the magic wall with my fist.

The Watcher closest to me huffs and looks away, unconcerned about what was going on inside the wall.

The Players that first started coughing and choking now started falling to the ground limp.

The mist soon spread to me at the wall meaning that it had covered the entire area that was closed in by the Watchers magic barricade.

I tried to hold my breath, not wanting to breathe in the mist. I only could hold my breath for so long though before I let go, and inhaled the mist.

Immediately I stared coughing on the mist. It was like inhaling a bunch of cinnamon without any water.

The mist soon filled my lungs and I couldn't breathe. I gasped for air but couldn't breathe any in.

I fell to my knees clutching at my neck as I continued to gasp for any air.

I started to hyperventilate, the lack of oxygen making me light-headed.

The world around me started to go dark as I felt my body tip to the side. I fell on my side and laid there as the rest of my vision went dark, and I faded into unconsciousness.

-----◇~~~\•○•/~~~◇-----

I wake up tied to a chair in a small room with no furniture or windows.

Two Watchers were in the room as well, but they didn't appear to know that I was awake yet.

"↸╎↸ !¡∷╎リᓵᒷ ᔑ╎↸ᒷリ ᓭᔑ|| ∴⍑ᔑℸ ̣  ℸ ̣ 𝙹 ↸𝙹 ᔑʖ𝙹⚍ℸ ̣  ⍑╎ᓭ ᔑ↸ᒲ╎リ ᒲᔑ⊣╎ᓵ?" I hear someone say.

"||ᒷᓭ, ⍑ᒷ ᓭᔑ╎↸ ℸ ̣ 𝙹 ᒲᔑꖌᒷ ⍑╎ᒲ ∴ᒷᔑ∷ ℸ ̣ ⍑╎ᓭ, I ↸𝙹リ'ℸ ̣  ꖌリ𝙹∴ ∴⍑ᔑℸ ̣  ╎ℸ ̣ 'ᓭ ᒲᔑ↸ᒷ 𝙹⎓ ℸ ̣ ⍑𝙹⚍⊣⍑." A second voice says.

I recognized it as the voice of the first Watcher I encountered, back at EVO.

I lift my head up and cough to let them know I was awake now.

"How long have you been awake this time little eavesdropper?" One of the Watchers asks me.

"Not very long, though if you don't want me to eavesdrop, then don't knock me out and give me the opportunity to." I say back, smirking at them.

"Ok, I'm going to stop you both right now before this goes any more downhill." The first Watcher jumps in.

The second Watcher scowls behind their mask, but turns away to face a wall.

"Ok, now that that's settled. My name is ⨅ᔑ||リᒷ, but you can call my Zayne until you learn galactic." Zayne says.

"I am called ᒲᔑᒷ⍊ᒷ, but you can call me Maeve." The second Watcher said, turning her face back to me.

I blankly stare back, I'm still not happy about being here so I might as well try to make them regret bringing me here.

Zayne sighs at my silence and reaches his hand into his cloak to pull out a necklace.

The necklace has a simple black cord with a purple gem as the pendant.

I lean back in my chair to get as far away as possible from the necklace.

I don't remember why exactly, but someone is wrong about that necklace, I can feel it.

"The Prince orders that you wear this necklace at all times Admin." Zayne says, noticing my distaste of the garment.

I try to pull against my restrains binding me to the chair. My efforts are ineffective though, and I end up hurting my self more than anything.

Zayne lifts the necklace over my head and onto my shoulders, the gem resting on the middle of my chest.

Instantly, it feels like all the energy inside me is being drained, and I'm to be left with nothing.

I try to use my Admin abilities to break out of my bindings but to no avail. My powers are gone.

A pain starts to spread along my body as my powers are completely cut off. My Admin mark fading till it is completely gone.

When the process is done, I'm left feeling cold and empty, like my life had just been sucked right out of me.

"There, no more Admin magic." Zayne says satisfied.

"But don't worry, you'll get new magic. Watcher magic, that is, if you survive." Maeve says.

I don't know if she was trying to comfort me or scare me though.

"Yes, if you survive you will get new magic. We will be going then, don't want to keep you waiting." Zayne says standing up and walking to the only door in the room.

"Good luck, you'll need it." Maeve says, also standing up and following Zayne out of the room.

They close the door behind them and it clicks, locking so there is no escape.

The bindings on me to the chair suddenly break away, letting me move freely.

I stand up and turn around, looking at the room confused as to what's going on.

A loud sound pulls my attention to the center of the room where a pedestal had risen up out of the floor.

On the pedal was a purple crystal, it glowed with an eerie power before suddenly bursting into a cloud of purple magic.

The burst threw me to the wall, making my head spin.

'I probably have a concussion at this point.' I think to myself.

I look at the swirling purple cloud before me. 'It kind of looks like it's looking for something, or someone.' I realize.

At this moment it "turns" to look me.

I scrabble back against the wall, terrified. I don't know what that thing is, but it scares me.

The purple cloud then moves towards me at an alarming speed.

I bring my arms up to shield my face and close my eyes. I brace for impact or whatever is about to happen.

Nothing could have prepared me for what happened though.

The moment the cloud made contact, my body seemed to absorb it.

At first, all I could feel was the sensation of being dunked into an ice water tank.

A ringing in my ears started as well.

Then it got worse, the freezing cold was soon replaced with a burning heat. It spread all across my veins until it felt like my blood was lava.

The ringing got louder till it sounded like someone was yelling in my ears.

The heat was replaced by knives not long after. A million tiny stabs was felt everywhere till I thought I could bear no more.

The ringing finally got to a point where I didn't think it could possibly get louder. It sounded like screaming and crying all at max volume right outside my ears.

I had put my hands on my ears to try and make it all stop.

"Stop!" I yell

The ringing and the pain continued.

"Make it stop!" I shout

Tears pouring down my face.

The ringing didn't stop however, it only continued.

"STOP, PLEASE STOP. I CAN'T TAKE THIS ANY LONGER!" I scream, the ringing and pain being unbearable.

Suddenly it all stops.

The ringing,

Gone.

The pain,

G

one.

Peace,

At last.

I feel myself slump together on the floor before passing off to a dream-less sleep.
