PROLOGUE

A nurse walked in past the automatic sliding doors, with antibiotics and a bottle of mentholated spirits, placed in a metallic carrier as she settled in front of a little timid looking girl. She raked her eyes on the little girl's form and barely held in a sob that threatened to come out.

Being a parent had made her soft at heart especially with children. She found herself silently praying for the girl who had just turned an orphan not so long ago.

"Hello, ma'am, may I see my papa and mama now?" The girl's tiny voice snapped the nurse out of her inner remorse and she turned and gave the small girl a sad smile.

"We have to attend to you before you go to see your parents. So, the earlier you allow me to apply these, the sooner you would see them."

In her early forties, the nurse was part of the unlucky females that had inherited a rather deep masculine voice compared to the soft girly voice most females owned. Still, it was a soothing voice to the ears of young Jadesola as she gazed up at the nurse with hopeful eyes.

"Okay, it would pepper me but I really want to see mama."

"Yeah, it would be just a tad bit painful so brace yourself little one."

******************************************

Jadesola could scarcely the situation when they told her, her parents had kicked the bucket. She knew of the fact that she would no longer see her parents again but it had narrowly registered in her young brain what death truly meant.

She bawled her eyes out not because she had finally comprehended the meaning of death but because of the inner childish worries that had come to dwell in her mind. Briefly, she pondered who would get her chocolates in the middle of the night, take her to school, spoil her with gifts, and lastly among many more, kiss her goodnight before putting her to bed; and that just made the waterworks come in thousands.

She only managed to narrowly fall from a start when two young couple, Mr and Mrs Peter's stepped into the waiting room, with Mrs Peter running like a deer caught in headlight towards the supervision of Jade.

"Oh dear, my darling baby, I'm so sorry." Mrs Victoria Peters, a petite form like woman walked up front to Jadesola, pulling her into a tight hug almost cutting the airflow of the little girl. Her eyes watered as she stared at the ceiling not wanting to show Jadesola any sign of weakness.

Jadesola stared confusedly at the duo as they conversed among themselves. After the bone-crushing hug delivered to her by a beautiful woman who had introduced herself after and asked to be called Aunty vicky by Jadesola.

Aunty Vicky had apprised her she was a family friend but the little girl had not recalled seeing the face of the beautiful woman nor that of her sharp and handsome looking husband as he had stood behind them constantly nodding his head when needed, in support of what his wife was passing on.

"Take custody."

"Parent's best friends."

"In our care."

Those were the only sentences Jadesola had been able to catch on to as the couple exchanged words and gestures with the doctors and a police.

"This is my house. No, our house where you would be staying and living from now on," Jamal Peters rubbed the little girl's head with affection lacing through his eyes.

"Woah, I'll be living here?" Jadesola raked her globe throughout the whole inner binary, as she upraised her admonition to check out the ceiling with chandelier dangling over, coupled with different paintings hanging all over the summit  of the walls. She recognized some fluorescent lights, sparkling lights as she always called it, she once had in her previous home.

"Our son is up and would be down any moment from..." Jamal could not finish his words as a gorgeous young boy of about 14 years old entered into the large living room.

He had semi wide shoulders with  long thin legs, clad in a white shorts and a black vest, he deemed attractive.

"Welcome home Dad." He glanced up at his dad and immediately, his eyes zoned on the little girl who seemed a little bit shy as she stood next to his father.

"Who's this?" He questioned immediately and Jadesola felt her heart drop at the tone of his voice even as she tried to avoid eye contact as his eyes still remained on hers.

"This is the newest addition to the family. Be nice, Williams, that is not a way to welcome guests into this house."

"Yes Daddy, my bad. Where is mum? She needs to help me with my baking assignment from school." He moved closer until he was standing in front of Mr Peters.

"She dropped by to get something in the mall. She should be back soon. I'm going to bed, I've had a long day. Will, please show her to her room." Jamal Peters announced as he stretched, while yawning simultaneously.

Turning to Jadesola his voice turned soft,
"My dear, your room has been prepared to the finest designs of pink, you should go up and check it. I would ask on your hold forth of it afterward."

"Okay, sir," Jadesola, who had been observing the two masculines, responded just as Mr Peters walked away.

Williams looked intently at Jade to the point of making the latter a tad uncomfortable, as she began to play with the fringe of her two checkered gowns.

She peeked up at him, making a decision, smiling at him only to receive a scowl back by the towering form positioned in front of her. He walked slowly, till he was in front of her. He hunched to her height, "It's better you stop behaving like a mentally deranged and come after me to your room."

He walked away, leaving Jadesola  stir shocked with her mouth wide open.

Are you thinking what I'm thinking? Tell me what you think!!
