Dust and specks of the granular materially composed of finely divided rock and mineral particles, locally known as sand, deviated by slaps of feet's by the trekkers invested annoying sounds to my ear.
The sand, constructed into mini dusts, fluttering lowly no doubt splattering the black slip on shoes I had put on early in the morning.
Petty hawkers stood close by, watching out for the population of students who had probably missed breakfasts and were searching for something to put into the stomach.
"Aunty, buy gala, you don chop?" A croaky female voice called out to me as I passed the walkway, leaving the center filled sand road for other uncaring students. Why I had indulged myself in walking there was still a misery to me.
"Aunty, na you I dey talk to na," her voice carried on, carrying a tinge hope of me probably changing my mind in not buying her goods as I marched on, dusting the skirts of my black summer dress off invisible dirt.
The hot sun poured down, without mercy convicting tinges of beads of sweat formed on my forehead, flowing down leisurely onto my temple. If it wasn't burning scorchingly, I would have glared up at the sky, looking directly into the smiling sun, questioning why Mother Nature had decided to punish us.
Fleetingly, I looked right at the dark petite lady who had been calling unto my attention, glancing briefly at the transparent plastic bucket like container dangling on her hands. I scanned the contents of the plastic and was graced with variety of different pastries.
I wasn't one to eat out that much but the frustration of the hot burning sun and the thought of having to seat through three hours of lecture hosted by Mr Ajayi prompted the hunger that suddenly came from nowhere as I signaled for her to open up the plastic so I could have my pick.
After selecting picks egg rolls and doughnuts, I inquired the lady to keep the change, not bothering to reply to her praises of my beautiful face and behind.
That was a fat lie. She had probably done that to praise me but all I could picture was a mock praise as I resisted the urge to backtrack and ask her to return my change. I was beautiful yes but when it came to sharing of endowment, I wasn't really one to talk much.
My boobs were of average size but my behind could be regarded as my main weakness out of many others. A friend of mine in secondary school had once said I should be thankful for being skinny as I had my breast to show forth than my behind.
I walked past the hallway leading to several lecture rooms as I went straight ahead to my lecture room, 404. I had returned back to Ekiti the previous day after many reassurances to Aunty that I was going to be back for the weekend.
"Jade, Jade, you came back to pepper us ni o," Temi teased as she closed the cap of the previously opened plastic coke in front of her, removing one of the AirPods in her ear.
She like me had also come back from Lagos the previous day. Unlike me who had been transported by an airplane, she had returned by road transportation accompanied with one of her guy as she called them.
"Pepper wetin, aren't you the one looking all fresh and dolled up like someone who just had multiple orgasms?" I said as I settled myself beside her, my butt getting scratchy by the hard bench lecture chairs.
I waited for a response from her but got none. I looked up at her, her face lips were pouted, moving from side to side as she avoided gazed with me, fiddling with the tiny rope of her phone case.
"Wait, don't tell me that actually happened?" I laughed as she ducked her head, opening the cap of the plastic coke once again, gushing down half of the content.
"Mehnn, I called you yesterday didn't I? wanting to gist you but you blew me off with some silly excuse that you were tired." She scoffed, letting out a small belch as I crinkled my nose.
"You self reason am na, you called me around 5am to gist me? You must have been drunk self." I scoffed again as she rewarded me a dashing smile.
"What happened? Fill me in," I added as she immediately dropped her IPhone11 pro Max on the well polished long wooden desk, launching into discussion.
"My dear, you wouldn't imagine. We were meant to go our separate ways o but it was already too late when we got back to Ekiti. As per we left Lagos late you know now, anyways sha it sort of happened. Charles is a beast forget." She blubbered, raising her hands and hitting me by the shoulder.
"Mad o, how.." my speech was interrupted as Economic Theory 1 lecturer Mr Ajayi, stepped foot into the lecture hall with a grim face as usual. His bald head stood glinting under the white bulb light located at the top center of the stage as he rounded up his black suitcase, preparing himself for the lecture.
"Let's talk later because this man's head use to spark anyhow." That was my voice whispering lowly to Temi as the whole hall quieted down. Mr Ajayi always had that effect. He was never one to shout order or silence when teaching.
Just a mean glare from him and a sweet promise of revenge on your test or exam script was enough to caution everyone. No one wanted that, especially when we were already in our final year, preparing to write our finals in less than a month.
I brought out the big large portfolio looking jotter to begin writing just as my IPhone chinned its usual ringing tone, signaling an incoming call.
Mr Ajayi paused, eyes like hawks raking around the whole lecture room till it landed directly on me. I sat still there shocked as I looked back at him, the thoughts of not graduating flowing through me as clear as a mud.
"Silent it babe," Temi whispers snapped me out of it as I immediately muted the volume of the IPhone, not failing to see Williams name flashing through It.
They sent this boy to me I swear.
"Hello young lady, could you please step forward and drop that thing on this desk?" Mr Ajayi voiced out, his tone sounding bitter when he referred to my phone as a thing.
"Okay sir," I didn't bother arguing, there was no point in doing so as I would have just added myself in more trouble. William was so getting a piece of my mind if I managed to escape this situation.
The class continued, with Mr Ajayi explaining different jagonz that was passing through one ear and leaving through the other. I sat still on the hard wood bench, annoyance pouring through me as I thought of the different words I would pronounce to Williams after the lecture.
I could even skip exchanging words and just drive down Lagos to strangle him in his sleep. I was at a risk here. It was common knowledge to mute your phone during the old hag's lecture but my fish brain had forgotten and William had decided not to use his sense and had called me in the middle of the afternoon, knowing fully well I was in school.
Mr Ajayi moved from place to place, his half bow legs tipping in front of the otherother as he would stop, explain and make hand gestures before moving to the other side of the room, imitating the same actions.
I wasn't one to wish bad things to my older ones, especially the extremely old ones but at that moment, I found myself wishing he tripped on his foot and looses his memory. Though not all of it but the one that had taken place in the lecture hall, moments ago, involving me.

"That man is a hassle," I sighed as I placed myself rather roughly on the longest couch of the purple three seater chair in my apartment, my feet's placed on top the other on the glass center table.
"You won't imagine, I thought he wasn't even going to give you the phone o. How could he even have threatened to seize your phone when we are not in Secondary School?" Temi questioned, removing the buckle of her sandals as she also sat right across from me, setting her head diagonally on the hood of the chair and staring up at the ceiling.
"O sunmi o, that man is just too mean abeg, today has even been a stupidly irritating day. It started with that mad hot sun, one lady that complemented my butt," I groaned as Temi fell into fits of giggles.
She withdrew her gaze from the ceiling, staring at me as she laughed some more,
"Wait o, she actually said that? O wrong now, it wasn't necessary. I would have said she was mocking you self." She exclaimed as I grumbled a "like I don't know."
"Let's even leave that alone, I'm going out to meet Charles abeg, I'll see you later." She sprang up from the couch just as the doorbell rang. I raised my brow up in question.
I was living in a private hostel that couldn't be afforded by an average student and I barely had visitors over. I glanced at Temi as she shrugged back in return, buckling back her sandals.
"I think it's Joseph. But he said he was arriving tomorrow abi?" I asked still directing my gaze at Temi.
"If he likes he should come next year, that's none of my business. As for me right now, I need to get some black D." She rolled her eyes as I laughed, pausing when the door bell rang again, this time, it went over continuously.
"Ahn ahn, who is that village person?" I questioned as I clumped towards the entrance door.
"Maybe it's one of your many one night stands." Temi laughed, following from behind me while my face remained stoned like, not finding any amusement in her words.
I really don't want to deal with that kind of situation right now!
I opened the door just as the doorbell rung again and I pivoted my head up straight to the stranger only to be met with the sight of William standing in front of me. He was in a simple black shorts with a black shirt, finishing the dressing with white slides.
"What are you doing here?" I asked just as Temi whispered a hasty goodbye, running straight to her red Toyota Camry and zooming off.
That girl likes Dick!
"What else would I be doing here? I came for a visit and as you can see, it's too late for me to return to Lagos so I'm spending the night here," his deep voice still hadn't changed as my body heat rose a little, deeply affected by his voice.
"How can you take a visit from Lagos to Ekiti just for a day? Also, it's not too late, take an airline and before you know it, you would land in Lagos, odabo." I said, trying to close the door only to be stopped halfway by Williams legs.
"I came with my car and what harm would it do me to spend time in your apartment?" The accent he had grown probably from many years of living abroad flowed out beautifully as he tongues rolled at the pronunciation of some words.
"You have no idea, it would do me many harm." I mumbled that lowly so he wasn't able to hear as I parted way for him to enter into the house.
"Is that why you called me this afternoon? You almost got me in trouble!" I jabbed a finger at him, suddenly remembering my previous pissed off state at him.
"Well, you are not in trouble right now are you? Show me to my room I need a bath." Williams accented voice asked as he barged into the hallway, scratching his neatly and lowly cut hair.
"That's my room o," I took a hasty step towards his direction, slapping his hands away from the handle of the door, resisting the urge to pull at his beards as my rubber slippers slapped on the tiles, making a squishy sound.
"This is your room," I opened the other room's door to him as he walked in, inspecting the environment.
"Surprisingly neat." He muttered as he rubbed his hands on his stomach.
"No o, it would be dirty." I hissed as I made my way out only to be stopped by him.
"Jadesola, I'm kinda hungry right now and I crave Amala. Do you mind making some for me?" His tone was dismissive like he wasn't asking me to do him a favor.
"Amala ko, Tom Tom ni," I slammed the door on his face, ignoring the stupid fluttering of my heart when he had called my full name.
Someone eating Amala say what?
Yeah, iriiz another update. Yeah, yeah, mumu Williams came from a whole Lagos to Ekiti for visitation. I smell something fishy.
Let's take a test shall we,
Put your fingers horizontally above your head, directly on top of your eyebrows. If your four fingers are able to contain it that means you have a big forehead!

What do you think of the chapter?
What do you think of Williams?
What do you think of Jade?
What do you think of Temi?(she reminds me of my Temi🤧🤧)
