Jadesola

The stars shone brighter as I stared on ahead. From the corner of my eyes, I glimpsed on as the stars displayed a brief twinkle, catching my attention as a silly and childish thought flowed slowly into my head like a butterfly does a canyon.

I dared to entertain the silly and childish thought of my parents watching over me above the sky. Although,  I was well informed the thought was highly superstitious and it was nothing more than a wishful thinking.

I stretched on the familiar opaque, buoyant red blanket I had laid out earlier on the brilliantly torchlit garden decorated with well groomed flowers. The blankie carried a sweet subtle smell of me. There was no way it wouldn't have as I had been cuddling it all month.

I smiled as I recollected the memory of how I had whined when Aunty had picked out the blanket specifically for me. Who would have known I would grow attached to it? It was all thanks to her, Aunty Vicky.

My beautiful Aunt Vicky. I allowed my mind to imagine where I would have existed without her and her affectionate husband. I remember the first day I had met her, she had been like an angel rushing towards my young form, ready to tend to my care no matter what it would have cost her.

In a way, she reminded me of my mother; the little memory  I could recollect of her at least, was that a bubbly character. The accident had become a distant memory which had been glued to my head like a band aid that could never be detached.

"Jadesola, the food is ready, in you come!" Aunt Vicky called out, interrupting my reverie as she peered her small head through the kitchen window connected to the garden in the back yard where I was, almost hitting her head against the glass window in the process.

"Look at you, come join us for dinner jare," she said and diverted her head back in a clumsy manner to get out of the little space she had squeezed through to get to me, retreating into the mansion.

"Go wash your hands you silly thing and come eat," Aunt reprimanded, slapping the hands of Uncle Jamal, who was in the process of digging into his food.

I watched in amusement the mini-fit Uncle threw as he pushed the seat forward and the light tap he administered on Aunty's bum resulting an eye roll on her part. I looked at them and smiled. I had always admired the love they shared.

Uncle was a very calm person who tried to always avoid any troubles from any stubborn persistent act Aunty was ready to dish up.

Aunty, on the other hand, was very stubborn and was always nagging at Uncle in every possible way. I could describe her as a pain in the ass.

The deep love she had for me never wavered though I had been living with the family for over ten over years; they treated me like their daughter, and I saw them as the wonderful parents they were.

I liked it here, no, loved it here. And I loved everyone. Well everyone, except a particular devil wearing a beautiful face. If there was a stronger word than hate, I would use against him. William was a bully, had been since the first day I had met him and it hadn't taken long for the deep feelings of hatred towards him to develop.

E wa ra ogi o.

The voice of a female resounded throughout the kitchen and I raised a brow in question, secretly wondering why there would be someone hawking in the evening inside an estate till I turned around, gaze landing on Aunty who was with her phone, no doubt browsing tik tok as always.

Yeah, the sound came from the tik tok she was on, it wouldn't take anyone much to guess she was preparing for yet a tik tok challenge again.

She has become so addicted!

"Is that going to be your next challenge?" I removed my hands from inside the sink, underneath the tap, glancing at her with amusement.

She looked up from her phone,

"Yes o, I'm thinking of using the kitchen for this one. I'll just dress like a hawker and carry pap on my head." Smugness could be heard in her voice.

"You kuku look like an hawker before." Uncle grumbled from behind her and she turned her head sharply, casting him one of her scary glares.

"You got that right Uncle." I supported as I avoided her gaze.

"I can't wait for my baby to come back. The both of you are always ganging up against me." She said, trying to sound bitter.

"You love us," I went over to her, squeezing her cheeks together.

"I love only you and not that man standing at the back of you." She held unto my hands as she stuck her tongue out at Uncle.

"And that man staring at you would be the one to give you money to the market o. Ti o ba wa bami fun owo ni ola." Uncle lamented as he smiled and walked out of the kitchen with Aunty hot on his tail.

"Aunty you just have starting you don't have finishing." I yelled after her, going after them into the dinning.

"Wo, Aunty Shut up I'm talking to my husband,    Olowo Ori mi." Aunty Vicky said, wiggling her eyebrows in a suggestive manner at Uncle.

Eww!

"So now I'm your husband abi, women are scum." Uncle lamented resulting in laughter from both me and Aunty. It would all been good if that devil wasn't coming back to Nigeria.

Williams had traveled abroad to study for most part of his life. He had graduated from college few years back and hadn't been back home since then, which wasn't going to be for long as Aunty had informed me of his impending arrival earlier this month. I had been too frustrated I hadn't even asked for the date.

Williams to me, was a devil, always disguising himself to be a good and gentle soul in front of aunt and uncle which he was anything but. I hated him with every bone in me.

I willed my thoughts away from him as I remembered finals were coming up the next month. The only thing that should be on my mind should be studying. Because I trust Afe Babalola's lecturers, they wouldn't show mercy. I chewed my food as I munched noiselessly on the sweetness of the chicken as my phone chimed, signaling a text from Temi.

I ignored it, making a mental note to reply her later. Not one to keep a lot of crowd, I only had two friends, Temi and Joseph who always behaved like cat and dog in my life.

They barely tolerated each other, always bickering around their necks. Sometimes it was cute, other times it was purely annoying.

"Jade, I forgot to inform you but Williams is arriving tomorrow." aunt said after dinner.

And just like that, My mood got ruined.

Scrrr scrrrr scrrrr

"Oh no, Aunty. I don't have classes today, I'm not going." I groaned into the pillow as someone or rather something kept disturbing my beauty sleep.

O ti sunmi.

"Look who's sleeping so peacefully when she should have been the one to pick me up from the airport." A rather deep voice resonated through the quiet room and I snapped my head up in a fast pace, only to be met with the black eyeballs with very deep blue Irises.

Am I seeing well?

"William?" I called out more like questioned.

"No o, Sulaimon. You see why I call you mentally deranged? Firstly, mum asked you to pick me in the airport and now you are still asking if it's me." His voice was calm, very calm as I racked my brain on when and where Aunty had told me to pick the fool from.

"Okay, I don't recollect Aunty telling me to pick you up. Maybe you heard wrong, I.." my speech was interrupted by Aunty's frantic entrance into my room.

"Ah, Aye mi, Jadesola," she paused as she entered into the room, her gaze landing on William who was leaning against the purple painted wall.

"My baby," she practically yelled, her voice echoing in the empty room. I wouldn't doubt her waking light sleepers neighbors.

"I know, I missed you too," the devil could act all tame as he pulled Aunty into a hug.

"I totally forgot to tell Jade to pick you up. I thought I did. How did you get home? How is everything? How are those girls? Your girlfriend nko?" Her questions went on and on and I rolled my eyes.

Who would even want to date this one?

"I'm fine, I got home with a cab, everything is fine and no, I don't have a girlfriend yet." He cast his gaze to me and I raised my brow up in confusion, wondering why he would look at me in the first place.

"Alright baby, Aunty Jade," Aunt called making me glance up at her. "I'm cooking breakfast today you can go back to sleep. Will go take your bath Kia Kia."

"Mum I'm coming, I need to collect something from her royal highness Jade. I'll meet you downstairs." He told her as Aunty nodded, walking out of the room.

"Why am I suspicious you are up to no good?" I asked him as he moved closer to where I was half laid on the bed.

"You are right, I'm up to no good. So now let me question you. Have you got a boyfriend?" He said as he his eyes zoned in on me, making me swivel my head around to look at him.

"And how is that any of your business?" My inquisitive voice asked him.

"Because, soon enough, either you accept it or not, you would be my business." He winked at me as he pummeled out of the room, giving me a breathing space.

It had been hard not to crumble at my feet and scream to the sky immediately I had set my eyes on him. Sure, he had always been handsome but when did he turn out to be this handsome? It seemed like he had been working out also. What was that with his chest straining his white dress shirt. Damn, I must say the guy was hot. A hot beautiful looking guy with a devil's character. Fucking perfect NOT!!

How was I going to live in the same house as this hot spec without jumping his bones? I might hate his guts but that didn't stop me from appreciating a fine ass when I saw one.

The door to the bathroom banged after me as I walked straight into it, I needed to use the bathroom so bad.

"Temi, whatsup?" I called into the phone as I walked down the long stairway leading downstairs.

"Go out? I'm up for it." I told her as she had asked if I was down for hanging out. I needed to go away from the oozing hotness of the house.

"Alright, I'll see you later." I hung up.

"You are not going anywhere." Williams deep voice stopped me on my tracks as I turned to look right at him. He was standing, leaning on the wall again. His hands were crossed over the other as he moved away from the wall, walking straight towards me.

"Excuse me?" I questioned, still confused as at who he was talking to and why he would say that.

"You heard me Jade, you aren't going anywhere." His voice was regular, like he just commented on the weather.

"And who do you think you are to dictate to me?"

"I'm not dictating, I'm simply stating. We don't know who you are going to meet and you could put this house in danger." His reply made me look confusedly at him.

What is he saying?

"I'm going out to meet a friend and what danger could possibly happen? I think you are delusional." I hissed, walking further down the stairs with irritation.

"Go right ahead and watch what I do to you. Let me just bring this out straight to you. You are my possession, you belong to me. And you would listen to whatever the hell I tell you. I didn't wait these few years for you to grow and then end up falling in love with someone else." His tome was still calm.

"Williams, I get it that you are still tired from the journey, seriously, I do. But that doesn't justify you spewing nonsense na." I sighed, putting my hands on my head and using my fingers to knead my forehead.

"Jadesola, I'm serious about what I just said. More so, you should really watch the way you talk to me before I get angry and bend you over my knees." He said and walked out.
