CHAPTER FIFTEEN

Hi:)

Jade

I walked past the office, waiting for the last person that was going to stare at me to look away. This had been going on for the past two hours. Exactly after I had run out of that elevator. Sometimes I was convinced that  these workers had their own personal group chat, because how was it that it had only been two hours, and I was already getting the stairs. Of course, the situation had looked like we had been doing something in the elevator, when it had indeed been nothing. I was so pissed at these workers that could not even keep things to themselves.

At the same time, I was dreading  going home. I knew it was going to be a point of no escape from Willaim, and I was not looking forward to that. Finally, I closed to the door to my office, making my way home when suddenly, I got a message from the group chat that I shared with Joey and Temi. It was Temi asking to see if we were free in the evening, as she wanted to meet up. An escape! I shot back a capital lettered YES.

"Miss Jade, Mr William requests your presence, concerning the meeting about the business deal you are with the TOPS company." Willaims secretary's tiny voice reached my ears, and immediately, my face masked to that of an intense irritation. What was it that he wanted. I would have easily avoided it if he had not sent her, and I wasn't about to be slacking in work just because of him.

I followed her from the back and noticed how her legs were bending as she tried but fail to carry her heels gracefully. I shook my head. It wasn't a by force thing to actually not wear heels to the office. Her legs looked like if they could remove themselves from her body, they would find a new owner.

"Sha don't fall down." I didn't know when the words fell out of my mouth. I would have slapped my hands on my mouth but I didn't want to look so stupid for saying it in the first place.

"Ah Ma. The sole or the heels isn't too sharp, that's why." The lie flowed out of her mouth like a thin hair, bowing the hair of an ignorant woman. I shook my head.

"Of course." I faked smiled. I opened the door to Willaims office and took a deep breath. His dems was still a bit far from the door. Taking a deep breath, I coerced myself. I was only going to be there for business. And I was going to behave like the mature lady that I was.

With a confident mind, I made my way over to his desk and he looked up. His mouth curled up to a flirty smile. Who was smiling with him?

"I haven't even opened my mouth to say anything, and get you are already frowning like you'd rather be anywhere but here." Willaim smiled to me, and I rolled my eyes.

"And that's because I would rather be anywhere but here. It's past closing hours, and yet you request a meeting. What do you want Willaims?" I asked, and he smiled again. I felt like taking one of the the books that was neatly arranged on his table, and throwing it on his face just to wipe the smile off his face.

"Well, I only called you over because we have to speak regarding why you are giving me attitude. What did I do to you? I know it can't be about the kiss  because you clearly wanted it." Willaims said, genuinely serious and my eyebrows shot up. He was so over confident  and cocky. Out of many other things.

"What if I didn't really want the kiss and I was huge blinded because I was feel lonely that day? Get off your high horse Willaim, and go straight to the point." I dropped my bag, and had my seat. If he wanted to frustrate me, I was going to frustrate him too.

"The point is that, I want the both of us to try thing thing out. Jade, we are going to be getting married in two weeks time. Whether you like it or not, it's going to be me you'll see when you wake up in the morning. So it's high time we start to see if something would work between us." Willaims said and I scoffed.

"Did you hit your head on the wall?" I asked.

"What?"

"Yes, did you hit your head on the wall, because you are talking like the Willaims I don't know. What happened to that mean Willaims? Why are you being so nice? You want us to try what out?" I questioned.

"I want us to try us, out. To see if things would work between the both of us." Willaims replied almost immediately.

"Do you like me?" I shifted on the uncomfortable chair.

"What? No. Maybe. You are pretty and all, but no." He said.

"So why do you want us to try this out?"

"I don't know. I just feel like we should. It's not like I'll be able to have a girlfriend if I have a wife."

"Why can't you tell your mum and dad that you aren't interested in the marriage?" I asked.

"Why can't you also tell them?" Willaims fired back and I dissolved back into the seat. He won't understand.

"Touché." I winked back at him.

"Let's get this straight, I don't think that I'll ever like you. I'll rather shit unicorns. I have better taste in men," I rolled my eyes at him. That was a big lie. I knew  that if we actually did try us, I was going to fall for him, and that was the most scary part of it all. I didn't want to fall for him. I didn't want to fall  for the person who made me feel unwelcome when I had first moved in.

"Yet you get wet at any slight touch. Okay." It was so vulgar. The way Willaims said it like it was normal conversation. I choked on air, my eyes almost bulged out of their socket. He had never touched me, we haven't even gotten there before. Just a kiss.

"You wish, your lips felt like I was kissing a wet fish. And you think I'll be wet. If you don't have anything more to say, I'll be taking my leave. You know, I have a life to live, unlike you. I'll see you when I see you. Bye boss." I got up, taking my back and trying to escape hurriedly from him, negate he noticed how bad his words had affected me.

"Bye, wife to be." Willaims called out to me, but his voice  no longer had the energy he had used to welcome me. I knew that I had done something to his ego. I smiled on my way out. Talking to the man made me lose myself the more myself the more. And the fact that I was actually going to be a married woman in two weeks time was something i did not want to start thinking of yet.

The sun graced my skin with the hotness that could only convince me that Nigeria was indeed the closest to hellfire. It was early March, and the heat and sun was hitting everyone in full force. I passed by the security guard who looked like he would give up on his job at any moment, if he actually didn't really need the money. Feeling pity for him, I dipped my hand into my bag and brought out four notes of a thousand naira.

"Wasiu, use this one to buy food for the afternoon dear, this heat is really much." I passed the money to him, and he snatched it away from me like I was not the one that offered him the money in the first place.

"Ah madam Jade, Eshey o. Thank you. Thank you very much." He removed his cap and and bowed his head, I only just nodded and walked past him to my car. Anything to escape this hot sun.

I was waiting for the traffic light when I suddenly got a text from the group chat. It was Temi texting the location of the lounge we were supposed to meet at. Bay lounge. I smiled, that was one of my favorite lounge, they had one of the best cocktails ever.

"Pim pim pim." I immediately snatched my eyes way from my phone, to look through the mirror only to set eyes with that of an angry dandy driver. I looked ahead of me and realized that the light had turned red, and other cars ahead of me had moved forward. I smiled sheepishly, but before I could even move, the danfo  driver had manipulated his danfo to the other side of the road. Feeling the need to apologize, I rolled down my mirrors but I was met with screams from a deep angry voice.

"No be your fault. Dem don dash you motor. See how she looks like pepeye. Asinwin obinrin." (crazy lady)

The driver rained insults on me before I could even open my mouth to apologize, not knowing what to do, I blew him a kiss but that only seemed to anger him more. Before he could say anything else, I drove off.
Sometimes you needed to handle Lagos drivers with care.

In another twenty minutes, I had arrived at bay lounge. I passed my key to the vallet and made my way over to a seat. I didn't bother to ask anyone if they had arrived because I knew I was going to be the one to arrive first. I was cladded in a office body bug gown, but I had left my blazers in the car, so my outfit  didn't look too official for the scenario.

I made my way over to a table with just three chairs. Perfect. Bringing out my phone to shoot a text to the gang that I had arrived, a voice suddenly called out my name.

"Jade?" I looked up, and my eyes met with that of Lucas. Immediately, a smile danced on my face. It had been a while since I had seen him in the office. He still looked handsome and radiant as ever.

"I knew it was you. You've even grown more prettier than the last time that I saw you." Lucas said and I only smiled, trying to ignore the stupid voice in my head screaming, cliche, cliche.

"Oh my gosh, you are so funny. Thank you though. What brings you around here?" I asked, and Willaim pulled out a chair to have a seat. When I hadn't invited him to do that, obviously.

"I'm just here to chill jare. Work has been so hectic so I told took a day to come and relax. How about you? And how come Mr Willaims isn't here following you around like a bat." Lucas laughed, and I coughed out something awkward that was supposed to look like a laugh.

"Nothing. I'm just here meeting with my friends. It's been a while we hung out, and speaking of friends. Here comes mine." I nodded my head at Joey, as he made his way over. Of course, Temi was going to be the last person to arrive. The person with the plans.

"Hi man. I met you at the engagement party the other day, right? What's up?" Joey regarded Lucas just right after he had pulled me in for a hard hug. He was really a touchy person and I didn't mind,

"Oh yes, Joseph right?" Lucas said, and Joey nodded.

"The name is Joey." Joey smiled back and I chuckled.

Before I could say another word, I sighted Temi also and smiled at her, waving  my hands for her to notice me. She smiled  and made her way over.

Quickly, she pulled me in for a hug, and rolled her eyes at her Joey, who oh my stuck out his tongue.

"And who is this handsome?" She finally noticed Lucas.

"Here we go again." Joey groaned, and I laughed. I was about to watch a full on drama in real life.

See you tomorrow:)
