Chapter 5: Words have been shared
"You're crazy Skyler." Luke said as he threw his arms in the air.
"There is no way you're really thinking of doing this?" Heath said as he sat on the table, swinging his legs back and forth.
"Luke, Heath. I know this sounds stupid, but there's something that Ayden isn't telling me. He may be the bad guy, but that doesn't mean we should just let him die"
Luke looked at me, fire burning in his eyes. "This is stupid, you're not thinking." He said almost yelling.
I looked over at Heath, who had stopped swinging his legs, looking at Luke. "Heath, can you please leave." I said softly and he nodded, giving me a smile before he jumped off the table and left the room.
"Luke-" I said, getting cut off.
"Skyler, you can't be for real for saving that-that-that monster!" He yelled.
I swallowed. Luke was losing his temper faster than normal, and I didn't like it. I never liked it when he lost his temper, never, it was like I had taken one of his first man hair off his chest or something. "Luke, please, I know you don't like this idea, but I think it would work." I said, watching as he ran his hand through his messed up hair.
"Skyler, I'm not going to let you do this." He said looking at me.
"What?" I said, looking at him confused.
"I'm not letting you do this, I don't care if he's the bad guy, he killed my sister and I want him to suffer how she did." He said. I felt the room go cold. Luke hadn't even talked about Izzy since the problem with Forest.
"Ayden didn't kill Izzy." I fired back and Luke just shoot me a look.
"Who's side are you on?" He said looking at me.
"No ones, I know that Chip isn't telling us something and there is no way that he killed Izzy!" I raised my voice without even thinking.
"So you're on his side? That monster who is playing you?" He said, anger in his words.
"He's not playing me, Luke. I know when people are playing me, he's not playing me." I said looking at the wall.
Luke just shook his head. "Do you even care about Izzy anymore?" He said.
His words hit me in the heart, making me look at him. "What? Just because I want to save him means I hate Izzy?" I said, looking at Luke as he shook his head.
"You don't even care that she is gone." As soon as the words slipped out, it felt like they stabbed me.
I just looked at Luke, fighting to hold back the tears. "You don't think I care that my best friend since-since-since the day I was born is gone?" I said choking back a sob.
"Ever since her death, you look like you don't even care." Luke said letting out a breath.
I blinked away the tears as I pointed at my heart. "I don't look like I care?!" I yelled. "Luke, I always look at my phone thinking Izzy is going to text me about some boy or some party. I always think she's going to be standing behind me when I turn around, but she's not. I miss her as much as you miss her, Luke." My voice became softer as I spoke.
Luke just shook his head. "Then why are you trying to help that monster?" He said, his eyes showing the pain he was in.
"Because sometimes the monster isn't always the enemy Luke. Chip knows something that might help us find all of the other teens who are being held as slaves."
Luke just shook his head as he turned his back towards me. "I'm not helping you Sky." He said looking back at me.
"Luke-"
"Skyler, if you help him, you're becoming a monster just as much as he is, falling for his mouse trap that is just ready to snap on top of you." He said.
"So, I'm the monster for helping?"
"Yes, Skyler." He said not even thinking about what he was going to say.
I couldn't fight the tears back anymore. "Fine, then this monster is going to leave then." I said in a soft sob as I pushed past him, rubbing my sleeve over my eyes as I pushed the door open, bumping into a chest, hands grabbing me. "Skyler?" It was Heath and I tried to hide my red eyes.
"What's wrong?" He asked as he tried to remove my hand from my eyes but I didn't let him.
"N-nothing." I said as I turned my back to him. He placed a hand on my shoulder.
"Skyler." He said softly.
"Please Heath, can you just come with me to the jail to talk to Sean and Mason?" I said rubbing my eyes.
"Sure, I'll be happy to go with you." He said.
I didn't even say a word back to him as I made my down the hall, questioning if what Luke said was true.
Was I a monster?
~DeadLock's POV~
DeadLock lowered down the cup of water as he leaned against the table, waiting for the people to come upstairs to tell him Ayden was secure. He tilted his head to the side as he looked at the water that moved around inside his cup. He looked up slightly when he heard something fall from downstairs and curses following behind. He just chuckled as he took another drink of his water.
"DeadLock." Someone said from behind him making him turn his head to see the girl come walking in, her high pony tail moving back and forth, her front bangs let loose from her ponytail.
"I thought you would be downstairs helping with our guest." She said and she tilted her head to the side and he just smiled.
"I'm going to go down after he is secure, don't want to get my hands dirty already." He said setting the cup off to the side.
"What are you thinking about?" She asked, tilting her head and batting her eyelashes.
That made him smile. "That girl back in the building. I just feel like I should of brought her with us." He said listening to the silence.
"What do we know about her?" She asked, smiling.
"Nothing, just that I put a tracker in her shoe." He said shrugging.
That was when a man stepped into the kitchen, a rope in his hands. "He's restrained, can't move a muscle without the ropes hurting." He said laughing.
"Thank you." DeadLock said, standing up.
"I'll talk to you later, it's time I get to know our little guest before we have to give him to the customer."
DeadLock made his way over to the stairs where he walked down them, soon seeing what the man was talking about. A rope was tied around the boy's body, a large x going over his chest that then wrapped around his stomach that held his back to the chair, his hands and ankles wrapped in duck tape to the chair not letting him move them one bit. As he got closer, he saw that the rope wrapped around the boy's legs, starting from the x, it went down in a strange and painful way as it held him to the chair, the rope was then tied to his feet that lead to his hands. When he got in front of the boy, the boy kept his head lowered, duck tape wrapped around his mouth keeping him from speaking. When DeadLock cleared his throat, it made the boy look at him, showing that his nose was swollen from being slammed onto the table. DeadLock then pulled a chair up and sat down in front of the boy who shot him glares that made him laugh.
"I know you hate this, but our customer will be here in about a week to pick you up." He said and the boy tried to move in the chair, but only made the ropes hurt more.
"Look, I'm going to pull off the duck tape and if you answer the question's I have, I'll leave it off for a few." He said, reaching across and not caring for his pain, he ripped the tape off, making the boy wince.
"Okay, tell me your name for starters." He said, leaning against the chair, waiting for the boy to answer him.
"You already know." he said, not meeting his eyes as he looked around the room.
DeadLock laughed before he grew serious. "Fine, tell me about the girl." He watched as the boy's eyes meet his fast and he leaned as far forward as the ropes would let him.
"Don't you dare lay a finger on her head." He growled and DeadLock waved the strip of duck tap in his face.
"Boy, this is calling your name right now."
The boy let the ropes force him back tightly against the chair. "I'm not telling you a thing." He said with anger.
"Oh, but you will, Ayden." DeadLock said leaning forward.
"If you want the girl to live a wonderful life, you will tell me everything you know about her or I'm going to have to get a little dirty." He said smiling. "Now, give me her name."
Chip swallowed, looking down at his duck tapped feet. "Skyler." He mumbled.
"Skyler what?" DeadLock said.
"I'm not saying her last name." He said looking up.
DeadLock just laughed before he stood up and when Chip thought he was leaving, he was grabbed by the throat, making it hard to breath.
"I'm not playing boy, give me the name now!" He yelled and Chip choked for air, trying to pull against the ropes.
DeadLock let out go and grabbed the chair and dragged Chip over to the wall where he leaned the chair against the wall, Chip trying to figure out what he was going to do. DeadLock pulled out an old cloth and Chip soon understood what he was doing as he placed the cloth over his face, before walking to the other side of the room. He then returned Chip didn't even get a chance to do anymore before ice cold water as poured over the cloth, sucking the air from Chip as he felt the water start to flood everywhere. Chip tried pulling on the ropes as he begged for air, coughing and trying to shake the cloth off, but DeadLock made sure it stayed on as he poured a little bit more water. After he poured a little more, he stopped and waited for a little before he reached over and slowly pulled the cloth off, Chip quickly gasped for air as his face and hair was now dripping wet, half of his jump suit wet as well.
"So are going to tell me her last name or do you want to do that again?" DeadLock asked, looking as Chip struggled for air.
He waited for a little before he reached and grabbed at the cloth and placed it back on the boy's face. Growling, he started to pour more water, prepared to do this all day if he had to.
