Chapter 28: His touch

"Lane himself lit a cigarette as the train pulled in. Then, like so many people, who, perhaps, ought to be issued only a very probational pass to meet trains, he tried to empty his face of all expression that might, quite simply, perhaps even beautifully, reveal how he felt about the arrival of the person."

Was what I was reading form Franny and Zoe, stacks of organized books towering over me as I went to turn the page, but stopped when a knock on the wood made me pause, glancing behind me to see Heath standing by the door way, something in his hands as he looked around, most likely looking for me.

"Right here, Heath." I spoke, setting the book down and standing up, seeing Heath turn his head towards my direction, his eyes looking at the tower of books.

"Well," He spoke lightly, looking around. "You look like your having a lot of fun." His eyes kept looking around, but his feet staying glued in place before he looked back at me.

"Um, Hill said to bring you this." He said, reaching out and placing the object in my hands, my stomach flipping when I saw what it was.

"Tell-him-thanks?" I said, looking at the food. I wouldn't even call it food, whatever it was.

He let out a laugh, his eyes lightly up a little as he just shook his head, before walking around me and picking up one of the books, his eyes looking over it. "How do you do this?" He said, setting the book down, looking over at me as I looked at him confused.

"Do what?" I said, cocking a eyebrow.

"Organize books. I would be here for ages having to repeat the ABC's for each book." He said, looking over at me as I snorted, shaking my head.

"It's actually quite calming." I said, watching as he scrunched up his face.

"You? Skyler Oaks, a book girl? I'm shocked, I took you as a phone girl." He said, his lips curling into a sly smile.

"Always been one." I said shrugging, my smile slowly fading.

"Hey Heath, I-I just want to say sorry. I didn't been for you to-" My speech was cut short, Heath placing a hand on my shoulder, his hazel eyes locking on mine.

"Sky, if it's about the whole party, brush it off. I went with you, knowing what danger I was in." He said softly, his hazel eyes staying calm as he looked at me, the smile that once was there, gone, the room going cold as I could only look back at him.

"Heath, it's my fault, I'm the one that got you back in this cage." I said softly, looking down at his hand, seeing his hand had a few cuts.

"Sky, I'm telling you, it wasn't your fault. I knew what I was getting into." His voice spoke lightly, his hand lightly brushing a piece of hair behind me ear.

The room fell slightly as I could only look at the ground, still not liking how Heath was taking this so-so nicely. Looking back up at him, it was like it was just me and him back at the ball party, his hazel eyes sparkling, a smile across his face so large, you would of thought it was going to fall off. His hair lightly brushed down, a few hairs poking up, but if you were just meet him, you would of never thought anything of what had taken place. For the moment, I kept the eye contact, his eyes just smiling down back at me, I complete forgot where we were.

Finally able to find my voice, I spoke, my voice falling just above a whisper. "But, why did you look so mad?" I said, feeling his hand brush against my chin, making me look back up at him.

"Sky, I always look mad. It's just how my face is. I was just happy to see you were alive, though, not here." He said, his eyes wondering over to the door for little.

Before I could even think of what to say, I felt his hands cup my chin, his lips pressing onto mine, his other hand rolling a piece of hair around his finger. My eyes were opened at first, as I tried to place what was happening in my brain, but the softness of his lips slowly sent my eyes to close, the whole world, every single noise gone as he kissed me, his hair rubbing against my forehead. Every second right then seem to freeze as he kissed me, the grip of his hands just feeling warm. But as fast as it came, the warmth was gone, and Heath was pulling away, the world coming back to me as I slowly opened my eyes, taking in a large amount of air.

I looked at Heath, seeing him take a step back, his hazel eyes no longer looking at me. My mind was still spinning on what happened as I looked at him, seeing him place his hands in his pockets as he looked down.

"I should get going, before Mr. Hill thinks I'm doing something." He said, finally looking at me.

As he walked by me, I felt his shoulder brush mine, sending my body to tingle, my heart felling like it was beating a hundred miles per hour as I could only stand there, still gasping for air as I asked myself.

What just happened?

I was still in a daze as I placed a book on the shelf, not noticing that someone else was in the room as I looked off into space. Just hours after Heath had kissed me, I felt so weird. I mean, I've kissed boys before, when Heath did it, it felt different, like he met it, not just a weak one like most boys do. Not this kiss, it was like he was trying to tell me something and I was so lost in thinking of it, I jumped when someone touched my shoulder.

"Hello?" The voice spoke lightly, causing me to spin around on my heel, stopping to see it was a boy with light black hair, his blue eyes looking at me in question.

"Yes?" I breathed out, scanning over his body. I had never seen him before, was he also a servant to Mr. Hill?

"Hill wants all of us downstairs, including you." He said, pointing a finger at me as his dark eyebrows raised.

I signed as I set a book on the shelf, running my hand through my hair as I walked behind him, still trying to figure out who he was. As I followed behind him, I saw that below Heath and the others were standing in the living room, the boy walking down the stairs quickly before he stopped and leaned against the wall. As I came down the stairs, I quickly took sight of someone against the wall, causing me to smile. There sat Will, his eyes focused on the couch that sat in front of him, his brown hair a large mess, making me wonder if he had just woke up. But before I could walk over and talk to Will, I saw Hill come walking in, his black hair nicely smoothed down as he came to a slow stop, his dark eyes scanning over each of us like he was counting.

"Alright, before I have Maddox and Keene lock you all up, I have some little news to tell you." Hill said, everyone's head's turning his direction, some faces holding worry.

"I am holding a little party for all my friends who are masters tomorrow and all seven of you are going to be helping." He said, his eyes landing on me.

"But you all well find out later what you well be doing so please, be good little pets and work for me well tomorrow, I would hate to get mad at you in front of everyone." His voice going a little low, before he looked at Maddox, who was standing near the front door.

"Maddox, would you please get all of them back in the room, I have some things do take care of." He said, rolling his sleeve up a little and looking at his watch before he started walking towards the stairs, his shoes lightly touching each step as he finally got to last step, walking down the call and disappearing behind a door.

"Alright everyone, you heard him." Maddox's voice spoke loud, making me turn my head to see him walking over to us.

Backing up slowly, I turned around and made my way upstairs, making me way towards what I guessed was the room. Glancing over my shoulder, I saw Lucy was behind me, telling me for sure I was right. Placing my hand on the knob, I turned it , pushing it open. The room looked like it was pulled out of a horror movie. Just like how Heath and Will were in here, I could now see that there was mats around the room, ankle chains attached to the floor next to the mats. The coldness of the room giving me goose bumps. As I looked around, I could only take notice that there was one window, a single mat just under the edge. Quickly, I took the mat, watching as Brett sat himself on a mat near the door, letting out a sigh.

"South, lock them up please, then do yourself and just throw the key over here." Maddox said, handing South the keys who only nodded, walking over to Heath, first starting on him as Maddox left, the door closing behind him as a faint click took place after word.

It was only five minutes later and South was on me, locking the ankle around me ankle, his blond curls covering his face as he finally locked them, standing up and going over to Brett, who was the last one, locking the ankle in place. I had moved myself to sit on the window edge, my ankle locked with the anklet hanging off the edge as I watch South do the same to himself.

Slowly, I leaned my head against the window, closing my eyes, the last sound filling my ears.
