It had to be at least 2 o-clock in the freaking morning when someone woke me up. Moving my head, I slowly opened my eyes and looked around the dark room, to find no one. Blinking a few times, I shook my head, looking around once again, trying to see who had touched my shoulder. I scanned over the walls, not finding anything that seemed different, then I notice that one of the walls seemed to have grown a bump on it. I leaned forward as far as I could, trying to get a better look.
"Hello?" I asked softly, seeing the bump move a little.
Making sure it wasn't some prank, I looked towards the bed to find my brother still out cold, his head turned towards the other wall. I looked back towards the wall only to jump to see that the person was now a few feet in front of me. I scanned over the person, trying to finger out who on earth it was.
"Who are you?"I asked, the room falling silent, leaving me to look at the person, a waiting scream to break out of my mouth.
I looked back towards my brother, before looking back at the figure, seeing them slowly move forward and when the darkness was removed from their face and I saw who it was, it felt like someone had just hit me with a bowling ball to the stomach, as I looked up in horror at the person, my eyes filling with tears.
"Izzy?" Her name falling out of my mouth like it was a dead fish.
She looked at me confused, her brown eyes looking-looking empty, like she didn't even know who I was. She brought her hands in front of her, playing with her shirt, that for sure was new. She moved her eyes around the room, before they landed on Noah, and she slowly made her way over to him. I slowly followed her movments, trying to see if this was just a dream, that my brain was pulling crap and that none of this was real.
"Whose Izzy?" She asked, looking at me, I just blinked, not understanding what was going on.
"Your Izzy, Izzy Toland." I said, leaning forward, looking towards the door to see if I could see anyone, all I saw was black, I looked towards her, trying to figure out if I was going crazy.
This can't be real, she's dead.
When I looked up, I saw her looking down at my brother, bring her hand up and whipping it over her eyes, before she slowly moved her hand out and brushed some of his hair way, tilting her head. She moved her eyes over to me, only a shadow looking at me. What happened to my best friend?
"Izz-"
"Don't call me that " She whispered, playing with her shirt again.
I took an easy breath in. "What do you want me to call you then?" I said, watching as she turned towards the window.
"Lorri." She said lightly, lowering her head.
That was when I heard a bedroom door being opened, someone calling out. "Lorri sweetie." The voice said and I saw Izzy look towards the door, her eyes moving over to me. Before she lowered her gaze.
"Don't tell him I was in here, please." She said making her way towards the door, her hand on the doorknob, but before she stepped out, she looked at me, something in her eyes that made me tilt my head at her.
"I won't." I said, hearing him call out again for her name.
She gave me a weak smile before she disappeared, the door closing behind her, leaving me with a thousand questions in my head.
"Rise and shine!" A voice said, pulling me out of my sleep.
After the whole messed up dream last night, I had only gotten three hours off good sleep before someone came into the room and had awakened me. Opening my eyes, I was quickly blinded by the bright sun. Blink a few times, I looked to see Deadlock setting a tray of something on the dresser, his other hand fishing something out of his pocket.
"Ugh." I groaned, moving a little in the chair, making him look at me, a sly smile.
"You know Ms. Oaks, you've impressed me, and it takes a lot to impress me." He said, moving away from the dresser, still trying to fish something out of his pocket.
"And since you listened, not talking at all, I have decided that I will let you get to wander free for the next few hours before I hand you over." He said, making me look at him, having no idea what he was talking about.
"Hand me over?" I mumbled, looking at Noah, seeing that his breathing was back to normal. The sweating had slowly come to a stop.
"Why, to Mr. Hill." He said smiling, as he checked another pocket.
I gaped at him, the world spinning. No, not back to that monster. I shook my head. "What about my brother?" I fired back, seeing him pull out a set of keys.
"He'll be sold to another master, given the proper welcoming like all new slaves." He said and I just looked at him in horror.
"No, please. Sell him to Mr. Hill, please, Noah won't live a day on his own." I said, watching as he walked behind me and started to unlock my cuffs.
"Sorry, but I'm only a deliver, and if I could help, I wouldn't. So, just cross your fingers and hope Mr. Hill will take him with you tonight." He said as he unlocked my wrists, letting me pull them in front to see the dried blood on them. Wonderful.
"Now, why I go and get things ready, breakfast is on the dresser, is if you can wake up your brother." He said, walking around me and without one word, he closed the door, leaving me sitting in the chair, rubbing at my wrist.
Slowly getting up, I walked over to look that the tray of food he had left me, the milk in the tiny glass cup making me ferl unsure if I should even trust him. I nearly jumped out of my skin when someone weakly called my name.
"Sk-yler?" The uneasy voice said, making me turn around to see Noah's weak eyes looking at me.
"Noah!" I yelled, quickly getting to his side, looking at him as he winced.
"Lower your voice please, loud thumping." He mumbled, and I just placed my hand on his cheek, looking towards the door. Would he be mad if I asked him to help Noah?
"Oh, boy." Noah mumbled, making me look at him in concern.
"I think I'm about to lose some stuff." He said, his hand grabbing at the bed sheet as he closed his eyes, swallowing.
"Deadlock!" I yelled, quickly pulling the strap over his knees, off.
"Noah, hold it down."I said, looking towards the door to see the door open, not by Deadlock though, Coin. He looked around, before looking towards me, and I took notice of the purple lump on his head that Will had left.
He looked around before his eyes landed on us, one of his eyebrows raising. "The dead finally come awake?" He asked and looked towards Noah, his eyes moving over to me.
"He's about to vomit and I'm sure you don't want to clean it up so please, help." I begged as I watched him roll up his sleeves, showing tattoos that covered his skin, his dark eyes darting up to mine to see I was looking. He smirked before going to Noah's side, unlocking his one wrist before giving me the keys to his other wrist. As soon as I got it unlocked, Noah rolled onto his stomach, pressing his face into the pillow, Coin rolled his eyes before grabbing Noah by the shoulders and having him sit up. Noah placed his hand over his badge stomach, keeping him from trying to scratch at it, his weak eyes looking at me.
"Come on, let's get you to that toilet before you lose something." Coin mumbled, getting Noah off the bed, keeping him from falling over as he took him out of the room. It was clear Noah was still coming together because I'm sure he would hit Coin for touching him.
When they got into the bathroom, Noah didn't hesitate to hold it back, and Coin just kept his hand on Noah's shoulder, waiting for him to finish.
I sat by Noah as he looked down at the bowl Coin had given him just in case his stomach had another surprise attack. I just sat there, looking at my hands before I looked at Noah.
"You okay?" I asked softly, seeing him look at me.
"Feel like horse crap, but I guess I'm okay." He said, looking up at me, his hands still holding the bowl.
"I'm just happy you're awake." I said, smiling and Noah gave a weak smile before looking at the window. He was being quiet, which meant something was on his mind. I went to open my mouth to ask when we both jumped to a loud bang, movement taking place below us. I stood up and Noah went to follow but I raised my hand at him and he stopped, slowly sitting back down.
I moved towards the door and tried the knob, to find it was unlocked. I slowly opened it, the sound of yelling came louder as I opened the door and I looked back to make sure Noah stayed sitting, which he had, but his eyes were telling me how scared he was and I just carefully stepped out, closing the door behind me, making my way towards the stairs. When I got to the edge, I felt a cold breeze hit my legs making me shutter. Placing my hand on the wall, I looked downstairs, my heart coming to a stop to see Will on the ground, struggling for air as Deadlock stood by him, looking over him. Will's arms were tied ruffly behind his back, a gag in his mouth, which was wet by now. And to my horror, I watched as Deadlock pulled a pistol out of his belt, loading it and pointing it at Will's temper, Will closing his eyes, his body breaking out into shivers. Deadlock just sided and loaded the gun, his finger on the trigger and when I saw his finger ready to pull, I quickly went running down the stairs.
"Stop!" I yelled as I came to a sliding stop in front of the pistol.
