Chapter 13: Gone
The rain had stopped and now, the dress was making it hard to walk until I had pulled off the heels and was now walking barefooted, as Lewis winched here and there due to the shackles around his wrists. I hadn't gotten anyone to answer me back, and I know it was going to be a bit, so I just kept on walking.
"Do you have anything to pick these things?" Lewis finally spoke up as we turned into another alleyway, and I looked as he raised his shackled hands at me, giving me pained eyes, water and dirt on his olive skin.
Raising my arms, I reached to where my hair had stayed in what Aby had made it into, my fingers running over every hair until I pulled a Bobby pin out, the braid that was connected to the bun falling out. Reaching over, I wrapped my hand lightly around his wrist, sticking the pin into it the tin key hole, starting to pick it. Lewis just watched as I worked, glancing at the road here and there. When I heard a tiny click, I smiled as I pulled my hand back, the shackle that kept his left wrist prisoner fell from his wrist, dangling by the chain as the other one remand on his wrist. Doing the same again, I put the pin in and started to go back to work, Lewis watching once again. Once another click took place, the shackles fell to the ground, letting out a loud ding. Lewis smiled as he stretched out his arms, closing his eyes.
"Dziękuję!" He said looking at me, rubbing his wrists to get the feeling of his skin again.
"I'll take that as a thank you." I laughed.
He smiled, looking at the pin in my hand, then looking at my now messed up hair. "You're not going to fix it?" He asked, his smile going into a small frown.
I grabbed my loose hair. "No, I-" A voice cut me off when it came through the earpiece.
"Skyler? You still alive?" Agent Wolfe's voice asked and I looked at Lewis, who sat down on a box on the ground, leaning his head against the wall.
"What do you mean by alive?" I respond back, hearing Agent Wolfe let out a sigh.
"Don't do that again, I thought I was going to have to send some cops." He said.
I just looked at Lewis, who looked back at me. "Yeah, about that, could you come and find us?"
There was a long pause. "Us?"
I bit my lip. "Yes, us, I got one the slaves that was going to be sold." I said.
That was when I heard Mason yell in the back. "She did what!?"
That's right pretty boy, I didn't listen to you.
"Agent Wolfe, please, just come and find us. I'm cold and wet and I don't know how much longer I can keep this dress on." I mumbled, Agent Wolfe laughed. "Already on it."
I hugged my body as I sat on the chair, trying to warm up my cold body that wouldn't stop shivering. Luckily, I had been given clothes to change into and I hadn't wasted a second to put them on, but I had to face the dark glares from Mason, who was kept in a corner by Sean. Ha, Mason's glares were like he was trying to kill me without having to use his hands.
"So, Lewis, do you have any family, we might be able to get a hold of?" Agent Wolfe said, handing him a water bottle, taking a seat in front of him.
Lewis looked down. "No, sir, no family, only my brother, who is most likely a slave now." He said and I raised my head.
"Wait, no family?" I asked and he looked over at me, his eyes washed with grief.
"They were killed when the men kidnapped us." He mumbled and I felt my heart drop.
"Lewis-" I said and he just looked back towards the ground.
"Lewis, I promise you we will find your brother." Agent Wolfe said, placing a hand on his shoulder and Lewis's head slowly nodded.
"Thank you, sir." He mumbled.
Mason finally pushed past Sean, who stumbled and hit the side, yelling at Mason, who was making his way towards me. "Hey! Mason-don't-" Sean said as Mason stopped a few feet away from me as I stood from the chair, seeing his hands go into fists.
"I told you not to buy any of them." He growled.
I turned to face him. "I don't care what you say, one is better then none." I said Mason just growled before he turned around, going back over to the corner.
I was about to open my mouth when a phone started to ring and I saw Agent Wolfe pull out his cell phone. "This is Wolfe." He said, looking down.
"Wait wait, slow down." He said as he slowly sat up.
"Was it just a break in?" He asked, turning his back towards me.
"You can't find him? As in, he's gone?" Agent Wolfe said and my blood came to a cold stop.
This isn't good at all.
"I'll be there, don't touch a thing." He said as he hit the end call button and went towards the door but stopped when I called him. "What's going on?" I asked.
He took in an easy breath, looking back at me, his eyes quickly looking towards the ground.
"I'll tell you when I find out more information." He said, said, grabbing at the handle.
"Agent Wolfe, what's going on?" I demanded, making him lower his head.
"Skyler, you don't need to know-"
"I need to know, tell me who." I demanded, shaking a little.
Agent Wolfe turned towards me, his eyes soft but pained. He looked at Joesph who looked at him, worried just as much as I was. I could tell he didn't want to tell, but if it was something bad, I needed to know. Letting out a sigh, he ran his hand through his hair before meeting my eyes.
"Will's house was found broken into and they can't find him anywhere."
My eyes went large as I grabbed at the chair, keeping my body up, this couldn't be true.
"What do you mean gone? Like he just left?" I asked, seeing Joseph's face go white.
"Skyler, come with me please." Agent Wolfe said as he opened the door and I followed behind him, looking at Joseph who looked sick.
"How bad is it?" I asked as I caught up with him to his car.
He unlocked the car, but before he opened his door, he looked at me. "From what I have been told, the place looked like someone was struggling in a fight, almost everything is broken." With that, he got into the car and I followed behind, pulling the door shut.
As we pulled up, I couldn't believe the police cars that were on the street, police tape blocking anyone from stepping foot by or in the house. I quickly got out and followed behind Agent Wolfe, seeing him show his badge to the officers who nodded and let him and I go under the police tape. When we stepped into the house, I looked around, seeing that Agent Wolfe was right, the place was broken, glass covering the floor. I danced around the glass as Agent Wolfe made his way towards the kitchen, both of us stopping to see two officers pulling a cat out from the microwave, it meowing over and over again.
"Tuna." I said, making both of the officers look at me.
"You know this cat?" The officer said, Tuna letting out a soft meow.
"It's Wil's cat, one thing that you hurt and he rips your head off." I said, moving towards them, Tuna being placed in my arms, he started to rub up against my chest.
I looked at Agent Wolfe was looking around the kitchen, looking at the broken table that now stood up with only two legs, a large crack in the middle. This was no break in. Agent Wolfe looked at me, seeing the cat.
"He cares for that thing right?" He asked and I nodded.
Agent Wolfe just rubbed his chin until he bent down, picking up a wet rag, sniffing it before he quickly pulled it away from his nose. He stood up and held the rag far from his mouth and nose.
"This was no break in." He said coughing.
"Will was attacked."
