Chapter 10: Run little sheep. The big wolf is coming to get you
Mason voice came through my earpiece as I slowly made my way down the stairs, like he know what and where I was. After Aby had gotten my hair down and added some makeup, the mask was put on and let's just say, I looked like I really belonged here. Slowly making my way down the stairs, my dress slide down it slowly as well, some of the young masters standing by it and looking up at me.
"Alright, Oaks. Remember, don't act like you're hiding something because Deadlock is a hunter, and he'll have you pointed out in seconds." Mason's voice said through the earpiece in my ear.
"Shouldn't you also be bugging Heath?" I whispered back, Mason's soft laugh coming through.
"Already did, he gave me some words in return."
I just rolled my eyes lightly as I got to the bottom of the stairs, a young boy walking up. With a dark blue mask on, I couldn't tell if he was a master or not, but I wasn't going to take my chances, one slip, and I would end up in the demands hands. He walked past me but gave me a nod, and I saw something dancing in his eyes, but I ignored it, giving him a nod back and he smiled before making his way up the stairs. I looked around the large room, masters were everywhere. Women with dresses that I was sure cost more than everything in my house. That was when something caught my eyes and I noticed that it was a line of what looked to be like cells, but instead of bars, glass walls allowed you to look through to see who was inside. When I stepped towards one of them, my heart took a leap seeing what it was. I didn't know if there was more, but I could only count about six boy's in this on, chains around their legs, keeping them from trying anything and only one looked at me, his eyes sinking away from mine as he looked back towards the wall in front of him.
"Looking at theses fine ones?" A voice said from behind me making me spin around to see it was a man who had to be in his twenties, a plain black mask over his face.
I just smiled. "Just looking." I said and he returned the smile, walking to where I was standing, looking at the boys.
"These ones came from England." He said and I looked back towards the boys, just barely seeing that one of them looked like he was crying.
"England?" I said, looking at the man and he just kept looking at the boys.
"We get slaves from all around the world." He said meeting my eyes.
And why didn't Mason tell me this?
"Are they already sold?" I asked, Mason's voice breaking through the earpiece.
"Oaks, as mush as you and your kind heart must save everyone, you can't buy them." He said.
I ignored him.
The man rubbed his chin. "I think three of them have."
"How old are they?" I asked, looking past him to see Heath standing on the second level, one hand placed on the railing.
"15 to-to-" The rubbed his chin before snapping his fingers. "17." He said and I swallowed, looking back at the boys.
"I'll buy one." I said, and the man smiled.
"Chose my lady." He said, raising his hand towards the boys.
I pointed towards the boy who had looked at me. "That one, looking at the wall like there's a master peace." I said and the man raised an eyebrow.
"Good choice, he speaks English better than the others, but he's a little pain." He warned as he pulled off a clipboard, scanning over it before turning it towards me.
I looked towards where he was pointing, looking back at him. He smiled and I took the pin, signing my fake name as I read the boy's information.
Lewis Horan
Age 16
Gender: Male
Note: Does not take orders.
Well, this was going to be fun.
Sighing my fake name, I handed it back to him and looked over it, raising an eyebrow. "Ilsa?" He said and I nodded.
"Alright."
With that, he was walking away. I nearly jumped when a man appeared in front of me, a girl right next to him. "Oh, I'm sorry, I didn't see you." He said, his eyes dark as he scanned over me. I just kept his eye contact.
"Such a pretty dress, it matches your eyes." He said as I gave a fake smile, looking at the girl, her eyes sparkling. She smiled and it just looked at her, it was almost like I know her.
"I'm sorry, I must be going." The man said, taking my hand and smiling. I just looked down as he placed a light kiss on my hand.
"My name is Donavan, Donavan Day." He said and my blood ran cold.
"Ilsa." I mumbled back, taking my hand from his grip.
"Such a lovely name. Maybe we'll meet again some day." He said as he walked past me, the girl who was with him, looked over at me, her eyes seeming like she wanted to ask me something but she turned around and just followed behind him.
I quickly turned around and slowly made my way towards the doors, Mason specking through the earpiece. "Skyler? Please tell me I did not just hear someones name." He said. I moved my slowly shaking hand to push open a door, closing it behind me. I leaded against the door.
"I think Deadlock just kissed my hand." I said, looking at my hand that he had grabbed.
"We don't know that." Mason came through and I had to take easy breaths.
"Anything from Heath?" I asked.
"No, I was hoping he had talked to you. He hasn't said anything to me, nothing at all." He said and I swallowed. Heath knew better than that.
I pressed my finger into my ear. "Heath? Answer me please." I said removing my finger. It was quiet for a little before a light laugh came through the line.
"Why, who are you talking to?" A voice said.
"Anyone there?" The voice asked and I swallowed.
"I know your listening so I'll give you a deal. Give yourself up or your friend here is gone."
I went to say something, but Mason's voice beat me.
"Who is this?" He demanded.
The voice just laughed. "I know there is more than one of you. Is there another spy?" The voice asked.
It was silent for a period of time.
"Run little sheep, run back to your herd. The big wolf is coming to get you." The voice said darkly before the line went dead. Mason yelled through the earpiece.
"Get out of there now!" He yelled and I didn't hesitate, opening the door, I made my way down the hall, watching my back carefully. But I stopped.
The boy.
I quickly went down the stairs, heading towards the cell, the same man standing there before. "I'm here to take him." I said and he looked at me for a second. "Now!" I yelled and he nodded, opening the door, walking towards Lewis. Lewis looked up and when he saw the man coming towards him, his face went dark. I could only watch as the man grabbed Lewis by his collar and dragged him out of the room, handing me the chain that connected to his wrists. "He's all yours." He said and I looked at Lewis.
"I'm not going with anyone!" He yelled.
As much as I hated being mean, I pulled him, almost making him fall forward.
"Come on!" I yelled and he looked at me.
I pulled him up the stairs, quickly heading towards the door, feeling a tug on the chain making me looked back to see he had stopped.
"I'm not going anywhere. I'm no slave." he said. I sighed, looking at him.
"Please, Lewis, I need you to shut up and come with me, I just basically bought your freedom." I said looking around. He looked at me like I was crazy.
Licking my lips, I pulled him forward, looking past my shoulder. My eyes coming lightly clouded with tears as I turned back forward and pulled the struggling boy with me.
Please be okay Heath.
