Question: What is the Dark Aura?

Good question. I didn't think anyone would catch that.

The dark aura is a combination of a curse, disease and, of course, an aura. This was made by the Night League in case they had to activate their full hand.

The Disease is like a virus with a switch. It doesn't hurt anyone unless released. Then it's a contact virus. In the Nightwings' base grounds, they have an airborne version of the disease that'll change to the contact form when released.

The Curse is a long term weaknessing curse. It takes a few hours to take into effect unless you're fighting the league. Then it takes seconds. They take no time to get their targets down once they start weakening.

The Aura is what is powering the league up. Sure, it moves across the globe, but only if needed. It mostly stays in Alola until further notice.
