Chapter Thirteen
Jake creped into the basement as he had heard the sound of crashing bottles. He walked down the hallway and opened the door to Tony's room. The noise continued to the left and he walked past Isabella's room on the right and down the hallway to a closed door. He opened it slowly and peered inside.
He'd never been in this room. There was a refrigerator and a sink to his left. In front of him were rows and rows of wine bottles. He was surprised to find that the room was a wine cellar.
It was cold. Jake shivered. He heard a bottle crash again and a girl yelp. He stepped into one of the rows of wine and walked slowly across the sharp stone floor, hurting his bare feet.
"Where is it, Antonio?" he heard a loud voice boom.
Jake peered through the bottles and saw a dark figure holding a broken bottle to Isabella's throat.
"She's a vampire, you can't kill her like that," he heard Tony's voice say.
Evil laughter filled the room. "She still bleeds. But maybe this will get your attention," the voice said. Isabella cried out.
"No!" Tony yelled.
Jake saw the hand now held a long wooden knife.
"Oh, yes, the old stake through the heart routine still does the trick on vampires, doesn't it, Antonio?" the voice asked with a chuckle.
"Put it down!" Tony said angrily.
"I'll put it down when you tell me where it is!" the voice yelled.
"I don't know what it is!! What do you want?!"
"Ray!" Jake yelled, seeing his friend lying unconscious on the ground.
Tony spun around.
"Jake, stay back!" Tony yelled.
"Ray!" Jake yelled again, seeing a puddle of blood under Ray.
Jake ran to him. He reached him and felt for a pulse. He didn't feel one. "Ray!" he yelled again, shaking his friend.
"Jake, wake up!" Ray answered, his eyes opening.
"What?" Jake asked confused.
"You're dreaming again, wake up!"
Jake struggled and pulled himself awake. Ray was leaning over him concerned. "Oh, thank god, man," Jake grabbed him and hugged him tightly.
"I thought you were done with the nightmares," Raven said with a yawn from the doorway.
Emily and George were also hovering in the doorway.
"Guess not. Man, that was messed up," Jake rubbed his face, trying to erase the images still in his mind.
"Want to talk about it?" Emily asked gently.
"No, god, no," Jake said shaking his head.
Emily walked over to his desk and handed him his sketch pad.
"No, I can't draw it either," Jake didn't dare to take it.
Emily felt the fear from him and dropped the pad on the desk. "It was that bad?"
"Worse."
"Was it the demon?" George asked.
"No, I don't think so. I mean we killed it, right?"
"Well, Tony said we killed it, but not the sender," Raven put in. "Maybe whoever sent it gave you this nightmare."
"I hope so," Jake said, looking at Ray.
Raven's jaw dropped. "You hope so? Why would you hope so?"
"Because if it's not someone else playing mind tricks on me then it's me predicting the future and believe me it's not pretty."
Ray cleared hia throat. "It's about me. You were calling my name, so it was me... that I was in trouble."
"Yeah," Jake answered, taking the glass of water Raven handed him.
"Mind telling me?"
Jake shook his head. "I can't, man, I can't."
"Would you guys give us a minute?" Ray asked the others.
The others shrugged and left. Ray closed the door. "Look, I need you to tell me what you saw. I can't tell you why. But you have to tell me. Because if what you saw is the future, I need to be prepared."
Jake froze."What kind of trouble are you in, Ray?"
"Please, just tell me what you saw, Jake. No questions."
Jake sighed. "Alright."

Raven laid in her bed and stared at the ceiling. It was hard getting back to sleep after Jake had a nightmare. Especially when it's so bad he won't tell you about it. She thought about the demon and all they had gone through, what Jake had been through. He'd been annoying lately, playing the over protective brother, but she loved him and worried about him getting hurt.
There was a tap on her window causing her to jump. She nearly let out a shriek but saw who it was as she looked out and smiled instead. She opened the window, sticking her head out in the night air and laughed.
"What are you doing here? And on the roof?"
Trey smiled. "I didn't want to wake anyone."
"That's okay. Everyone's awake."
Trey frowned. "Everyone? At this hour?"
"Jake had a nightmare. And when Jake has a nightmare it wakes up the whole house."
"That's pretty intense. Is he alright?"
"He's fine."
"Maybe I should come back another time," he said hesitantly, starting to get up.
She leaned out and grabbed him by a black leather sleeve. "No, it's okay. Why are you here?"
Trey smiled. "I came to see you," he answered, touching her face.
Raven smiled. "In the middle of the night?"
"Well, every time I try to, something comes up to stop me..."
"You've tried before?"
"Many times."
"Really?"
"Yes. Although, I immensely enjoy our conversations on the phone it's much more enjoyable to see your beautiful face."
Raven blushed. "How'd you get up here?" she asked frazzled.
"I climbed."
"It's pretty high," she said, looking down.
"I'm not afraid of heights."
Raven studied the roof full of black shingles that could slip off the edge or cause him to. She looked over his six foot muscular body and the floor of the roof. Or he could fall right through. "Why don't I come downstairs? We can talk on the porch."
"Alright."
"Can you get down okay?"
"I'll manage." He winked.
Raven quickly pulled on a pair of jeans and checked her hair in the mirror. She bounded down the stairs to the front door. She opened it to find Trey already sitting on the front steps. He peered inside to make sure no one was behind her.
"Hello, beautiful," he said, turning towards her.
"You're crazy," she shut the door behind her and stepped onto the porch.
"Yeah, crazy's my middle name." He blew out a breath. She sat down next to him. "Your friends going to mind if I'm here?" he asked, looking back at the house.
"Why would they?"
"They made it clear at the club they didn't like me."
"That was just my brother being a jerk. Don't worry about it."
"Does it bother you then that he doesn't like me? And that I like you?" he asked, running his fingers across her hand.
Raven smiled. "I'm glad you like me. And yeah it bothers me that he doesn't like you, but he doesn't seem to like anyone that I like."
"You like someone else?"
Raven looked back at the house thinking of Tony. "It doesn't matter. It's not going to work between us."
"Why not?"
"He's not ready."
"For you?" Trey asked surprised that any guy wouldn't do anything for a girl like Raven.
"For anyone."
"Raven."
"Yes?"
"I'm ready for you," he leaned over and kissed her softly on the lips. She kissed him back. He touched her face gently. "I'm glad you were awake."
"Me too," She answered, looking into his eyes. There was something about them that made her feel close to him. It was like she knew him already. Yet she didn't know a thing about him. But she wanted to.
He seemed like the type of guy that had been hurt many times and he was just acting tough to protect himself. She wanted to see behind those walls to see the real Trey behind them.
He looked away as if her watching him made him uncomfortable. Trey got up, put a hand out and helped her rise. He led her hand in hand towards the gardens.
"Can I ask you something, Trey?" She asked after a few moments of silence.
"Sure."
"I don't understand something."
"What is that?"
"Well, to me you seem like a great guy. But Isabella, she says that she knows you and that I shouldn't trust you. Why is that?"
Trey stiffened. "She said that?"
"Yeah. Why?"
Trey sat down on the marble bench on the water fountain. It reminded him of home. So far away it was. He looked off into the distance, "I can't believe she would say that," he shook his head in disbelief.
"What is she to you?"
Trey chuckled. "That's complicated."
"Why don't you try me?"
"You're very straight forward aren't you?"
"I am."
"Isabella....she's like...a sister to me, you might say."
"A sister?" Raven repeated surprised. That wasn't the answer she expected. She thought that maybe they had been an item and it ended badly. Could they just be friends?
Isabella was so beautiful and he was so handsome it was hard to imagine that they wouldn't have dated at some point.
"I told you it's complicated."
"What's the deal with her not trusting you?"
Trey sighed. "She doesn't trust anyone; I guess that includes me too."
Raven chuckled. "She's trusting Ray a lot lately."
"Ray?"
"Yeah, one of our roommates. They have a thing going on. Don't get me wrong, Ray's a great guy. But I didn't think he was her type. Or vice versa."
"Isabella doesn't have a type."
"Everyone has a type, Trey."
"Look, I came here to see you not to discuss Isabella," Trey said annoyed.
Raven blinked in shock at the quick turn in his attitude, "I'm sorry. I just wanted to get you know you a bit. And you and Isabella seem to have history."
Trey grimaced at the word history. "I better get going. I don't want to deprive you of your beauty sleep," he said, getting up.
"Oh. Okay," she said disappointed that he had only stayed for a minute and it was ending on a bad note. She got up as well.
"I'll call you tomorrow, okay?" Trey said, kissing her cheek in goodbye.
She nodded. "That'd be great," she touched his arm, wanting some connection before he left her.
He looked away and sighed. "Look... Raven, I'm sorry," he said after a minute.
"For what?" she asked, walking around him so she could look at his face.
He looked at her. He looked into her eyes. So innocent, so trusting. It never bothered him before, deceiving the innocent and trusting. Why the hell was it bothering him now? He touched her face.
"For...for everything really. For being in a mood, I guess," he said, throwing up a hand in frustration. " I get in these moods sometimes and I take things out on people, and I really don't want to take anything out on you, Raven. You're a really nice person. And that's refreshing. But I don't deserve you and you definitely don't deserve me." He turned away from her.
"Hey, hey. It's okay," she insisted, pulling him back to look at her. "Everyone gets in a mood every once in awhile. Even if you take it out on me, that's okay. Sometimes, you need someone to take things out on. I don't mind. Don't be so hard on yourself. I like you, Trey. And when I like someone I don't get rid of them just because they're having a hard day. I stick."
"Nobody sticks," Trey said firmly.
"Boy, who did one over on you?" Raven chuckled.
"You want the list?" He snapped.
"Well, I'm not like that. I promise." she told him firmly.
"Do you always keep your promises, Raven?"
"Always," she promised as she put a hand to his neck to pull him down and kissed him on the mouth.
"So do I," he answered, kissing her back.
He took her face in his hands and looked at her deep in the eyes. "I promise you...no harm will ever come of you."
"How can you promise something like that?"
"Because I'll always be here if you need me. Call me when you need me."
"I will," she answered, hugging him, "thank you."
"Raven?" he asked, looking at the house.
"Yes?"
He was quiet for a moment as he turned it over more in his mind. "Would you give Isabella a message for me?"
"Okay. Yeah. Sure," she stuttered, surprised he brought up Isabella.
"Just tell her to forget it."
"Forget it?" she repeated.
"That's it." He looked at the house again, a sad smile on his face.
"What does that mean? Forget what?"
"She'll know."
