Chapter 12
Kai's POV
I sit across the table from Lloyd. I knew he was going to take the news hard, but we all saw it coming. As much as I dislike Harumi, I need to be here for him. He stirs the chocolate milk in front of him and sighs.
"She left us Kai," he looks up at me. "I gave her my everything, and she leaves forever."
"She had to leave Lloyd," I tell him softly. "She has to find a husband, and her spending time here kept her from doing so. By distancing herself, she'll focus on finding someone to rule beside her." He looks so heartbroken and torn up. He'd been hiding in his room for the past day, and I had to practically drag him out of his room to come out. His eyes are puffy and red.
"I know. I just thought...I just thought," he drifts off.
"That someday, that husband could be you?" I attempt to finish his sentence. He sadly nods.
"It was stupid anyways. The people wouldn't accept an elemental freak as their emperor anyways, neither would her parents," he takes a small sip of his chocolate milk.
"They'd be beyond lucky to have you as their emperor. All of us in here, we're not freaks, we're extraordinary. Society is missing out by having us all locked up," I tell him. He shakes his head.
"We're walking safety hazards," he hums sadly, pursing his lips after.
"I used to think that..." I start,"but someone..."
"Skylor," he interrupts to correct me. I smile.
"Skylor taught me that that was wrong. Think, your uncle was able to live in the world and not cause harm using his powers. Why couldn't we? We were kids when we got put in here, Lloyd. It's stupid that anyone thought we could control our powers at that young," I explain to him. He just shrugs.
"You know of Garmadon," he attempts to brush off my entire point using one example.
"Garmadon was also corrupted with venom that made him evil. Plus, a single person doing something bad doesn't mean all people like them should be locked up. I'm just saying that knowing you, you'd be able to control your powers or even use them to protect Ninjago as their emperor, just saying," I go back to my original point. He sighs.
"I know you're not upset that she's gone," he states, looking up at me.
"What?"
"You don't need to pretend to make me feel better. You hated Harumi," he flinches as her name comes out of his mouth.
"Hate is a strong word," I tell him. He raises an eyebrow. "That does describe how I felt about her, but I'm here for you. How about we spend a Lloyd and Kai day, just like old times." This brings a smile to his face.
"I'd like that. I missed those," a small bit of joy appears on his face. "I'm sorry that we drifted apart. I was too absorbed with Harumi to spend time with my friends."
"I'm just as guilty as you are," I admit,"I get so absorbed in Skylor sometimes that I don't hang out with you guys enough."
"It's fine. You two...you're great for each other. Just don't forget about the rest of us," he takes a sip of his chocolate milk.
"I won't. Now let's go to the arcade. I'm about to destroy you."

*3 weeks later*
Nya's POV
"We're having a girls day today," Skylor announces as I walk back into the room after going to the gym.
"What?" I ask, plopping my bag down on the table next to my bed.
"Just the two of us, all day," she smiles. "No computer, full attentiveness."
"I need to meet Jay at..." I start.
"Already talked to him. He said that was fine. The boys are going to all hang out today. Lloyd is still upset the devil is gone," she explains, shutting down her computer for the day.
"You're happy she's gone?" I predict. She nods and smiles.
"It's been so nice, but I feel bad for Lloyd. Even though we weren't friends, or acquaintances, she pulled him in just to leave him," she shakes her head. She grabs her bag, slinging it over her shoulder. "Now go get ready. We have a spectacular day planned."
---
Skylor and I walk into the rollerskating rink. There's no one in here besides the guard who is running the place where you get your shoes.
"Hello ladies. I have your skates," he places a pair of blue and a pair of orange skates on the counter.
"They have a pair made for each person so they don't have a ton of extras," Skylor explains, seeing the confusion on my face. We sit down, take off our shoes, and place these ones on. The two of us lace up our skates and head out for the rink. As soon as I try to skate, I fall.
"I'm guessing you've never roller skated before," she laughs, offering her hand. I grab it as she pulls me up.
"Nope. Never wanted to go alone," I shrug.
"Why didn't you go with your friends?" she asks.
"I didn't have any," I sigh, partially embarrassed. She shakes her head.
"Society must really be screwed up if people like you don't have friends," she starts skating. She teaches me how to skate, and I catch on fairly quickly.
"You're really good," I tell her. She shrugs.
"My dad always had me train. We had our own roller rink," she informs me,"When he would come back to the island from work for the short bursts that he did, we would always do that."
"I'm so sorry that you never really got to be a kid because you got taken here," I look at her. She just shrugs.
"It's fine. It let me meet you."
"Do you think we'll ever get out of here?" I ask her quietly. She quickly glances over at the guard, who is staring at us intensely.
"Honestly, I have no clue."
---
"There's a club?" I ask as we walk through town. Skylor nods.
"It's open on Friday nights. We should go one day. It'll be fun," she suggests, a huge smile on her face.
"Just us?" I ask. She shrugs.
"We can invite other people. The more the merrier for those type of things," we keep walking back towards the lobby. When we walk in, we see her.
She has long brown hair with purple tips. She's wearing black jeans ripped at the knees with a black tank top and a flannel. She has brown eyes behind thick rimmed glasses. She's reading one of the magazines sitting on the table. The feature that sticks out to me the most, however, is the vengestone cuff on her wrist.
"Who is that?" I ask Skylor. She glances over quickly.
"No idea," she states, taking one more look.
"I'm going to go talk to her," I announce. "You should come with." I start to walk over, and Skylor follows me.
"Hi, can we sit with you?" I ask. She glances up.
"I guess," she looks back down at the magazine.
"I'm Nya, and this is Skylor," I introduce us to her.
"Juliet," she says her name.
"You're new, right?" I ask her. She finally sets the magazine down.
"I am. Got here today," she states, leaning back against the couch.
"How are you liking it so far?" Skylor asks. She shrugs.
"You guys are the only people who have talked to me. I've just watched people come and go. It's been boring," she admits.
"What elemental power do you have?" Skylor asks her.
"I'm the master of emotions," she informs us.
"What does that mean?"
"I can influence people's emotions. I can make people happy, angry, jealous, sad, etcetera," Juliet waves her hands around while she talks. "They don't know why they're feeling it, but they feel it. My powers active their brains to produce the chemicals that make people feel that way."
"That's so cool," I tell her, which makes her smile a little.
"Skylor!" I hear a call down the hall. Jay comes jogging into the lobby. He is soaking wet. His hair is disheveled, and he's in his bathing suit. I see him and my breath automatically catches.
"Jay, I told you we weren't talking to you guys today," Skylor tells him. Juliet turns around and looks at him too.
"Yeah but your boy fell while Lloyd was chasing him around the pool and hurt his wrist," he tells Skylor. Her eyes automatically widen, and she stands up.
"I'll be back," she tells Juliet and I. As she walks out, she turns to Jay,"and put on a shirt please."
"Hey, I was just in the hot tub," he defends himself. Skylor shrugs and throws a towel at him before walking out of the room. Instead of going back outside, Jay comes and joins us, sitting down next to me.
"Hi Nya," he gives me a smile,"and?" he turns to face Juliet.
"Juliet, and you are?"
"Jay," he responds. She looks between the two of us.
"Are you two a thing?" she asks, gesturing between the two of us. I panic.
"No," we both say in unison in the same nervous tone.
"That's against the rules," Jay adds.
"I see," she smirks, leaning forward. "How old are you guys?"
"17 and 19, and you?" I ask her.
"19," she answers.
"Did you and Skylor have fun today?" Jay asks me. I nod.
"Yeah, we went roller skating, had lunch at the cafe, and walked around some. What'd you guys do?" I answer.
"We hung out at the pool all day," he answers. As he finishes talking, Skylor walks back in.
"They want you back," she informs him, coming and taking her seat on the other side of me.
"Then I'll get going. Bye Nya, and it was nice meeting you, Juliet," he stands up and waves before jogging back outside.
"Not only can I control emotions, but I'm good at reading them too, and I know that there's something going on there," Juliet tells me. Skylor smirks.
"See, I'm not the only one who sees it," Skylor gently nudges me.
"Whatever, the rules make it so we can't anyways," I bring up the point.
"Does he have any hot friends?" Juliet asks.
"You seem like the type of girl who'd like Cole," I tell her. She raises an eyebrow.
"Who's Cole?" she asks.
"One of Jay's friends. He's the master of earth."
"We'll see."
