~Chapter 9~
Biana POV
Biana watched her best friend be pulled and twisted in the claws of the Neverseen members, her vision rimmed with red terror. The terrorists showed no sign of struggle at Sophie's violent kicking, faces masked in shadows.
Her breathing hitched when they dragged her to Vespera, who grabbed the blonde around her wrist, pulling Sophie further towards the witch. Sophie's eyes were wide and wild, and Biana knew if she was an empath, she would feel more than just fear.
Vespera extended her claws, laying them on the side of Sophie's face and turning their gazes to meet
"Oh yes, I think you'll be a great addition to the team, Sophie."
Sophie POV
The woman's hand on her face felt like venom coated in fire. As she spoke, voices blurred and black threatened to take over all of her vision, engulf her in dread and horror. Sophie was honestly surprised she was still taking all of this in, surprised she hadn't shut down by now.
She stared far across the empty fields, past the woman, past any people cloaked in black. Sophie refused to look her in the eyes.
Adrenaline pumped through her veins, her breath coming quicker with each second. As it seemed seconds melted into minutes, turning to moments longer than she could have ever imagined.
She heard the sound of shoes against the brushing of grass, and soon she was hauled up from her position on the ground by two members of whatever terrorist group this was. The back of her shoes scraped against the pressed down grass, spraying mud on the back of her leg.
Sophie's instincts kicked in, begging her to run. So she did just that.
She dug her elbow into the neck of the captor on her right side, throwing a wild kick out to the one on her left. One released their grip, giving Sophie a way out. She tugged herself out of the grip of the left detainer, her legs working on instinct.
She didn't think she had ever run as fast as she did now in a long time. But, considering she didn't typically go for spontaneous sprints, the quick break did little to give way to her escape. She slammed into another cloaked figure, who grasped her with little intent to let her go.
"Alright," the woman came back into view, her voice now not of amusement but of annoyance. "That's enough for this show. Take those White Duck idiots or whatever they're called and get them out of my way. Ruy," she looked over Sophie's head to the person holding her captive.
Ruy.
That ignorant swine from the movie theater, that kid from the library. This attack was planned much farther than she expected. Well, it's not as if she expected one at all.
"Take her to the guest room." Sophie rolled her eyes despite the life threatening drama occuring. The man dragged her halfway across the field, behind the rest of the figures and towards a large stone fortress.
A weary silence continued to grow between the two strangers, Ruy's grip never loosening once.
Finally, Sophie couldn't resist the urge to throw a snappy remark at the boy. "Just wanted to see what happened to Elsa and Sven, huh?" she snarled.
He stayed silent, further dragging her to the foreboding building. As they reached the oversized wooden door—three times the size of Sophie herself—, Ruy peered over his shoulder, back towards the group.
He was calculating, she could tell, and Sophie didn't miss the icy feel radiating off him. The boy stood there for several seconds, watching all and every figure across the field while Sophie slouched in the uncomfortbale aura of this place.
"Sooooo," Ruy flinched at her sudden speech, as if he had forgotten she was standing right behind him, her arms still in his strong grip. "What's with the big door?" Sophie questioned.
He let out a breath, turning to face the blonde. He just peered at Sophie, nothing more, until speaking once again.
"Alright, listen. Just don't move and you'll be fine. If you move, I'm gonna have to disable you, and that would be," he paused, "just so horrible because you're part of our team."
Sophie scoffed, pushing down her alarm with arrogance. "You can try," she claimed.
Ruy snorted before releasing his grip on her forearms and turning to the door. She watched him with skeptical eyes, his every move scanned through her mind.
Ruy reached for his right sleeve, pushing up the fabric to reveal a metal hand garmet. Around his wrist was a tarnished gold bracelet with multiple overlapping layers of metal branching out to thick bronze chains, each individual chain leading to a simple ring around each finger. Except his index finger. The piece could be considered a ring in some terms, others a claw, or talon. The thing was a rusted gold, the same metal as the rings and bracelet. It climbed up his index finger in a scalloped manner, about every half inch a new piece of metal. There were rusted gears on top of each other and miniscule ornate details.
Sophie watched as he turned his wrist to face the sky. He began to twist the differring layers of the braclet in opposing mismatch ways.
Right, right, left, right- Ruy paused, glancing at her watching him. With his cloaked face still truned towards her, he held his right hand hidden on the other side of his cloak.
He finished the combination without looking, the bracelet creating a mechanical clicking noise. A shiny skeleton key extracted from the bracelet, looking freshly polished. He pushed the key into a small hole in the door, twisting until a click was heard.
The door swung open by a rough shove from Ruy.
The inside of the large building wasn't exactly what Sophie was expecting.
They stepped into a wide room flooded with sunlight. It hadn't occured to Sophie until now that when she was taken it was far past sundown, and now the sun was well over the horizon. As much as she tried to be apprehensive, the warm feeling of this room overcame that.
The room was longer than it was wide, with archways lining the sides of the wall. Right above the archways was a second level, more of a balcony than another floor with marble pillars and smooth stone floors, the wall open to the crisp air. In front of Sophie and Ruy the middle of the floor was covered with a calm blue rug that lead to a set of ascending stairs. At the top of the stairs, there sat a round seat, the back made of glass leaves and sheltered by a delicate gold cage. With all of the windows and gold etchings, it created an unmatchably liberating feeling.
Sophie began to turn around to take in the full room but instead was reminded she wasn't alone. The liberating feeling soon disapated as she realized she was still in Ruy's harsh grip.
"Are you done? 'Cause I have somewhere for you to be unless you want to just stay and have your moment," he spoke in a monotone voice.
"I wasn't-" Sophie began.
"Nope, let me rephrase that. "I genuinly don't care what you want to do or where you want to be, I have somewhere I'm supposed to bring you." Ruy's head turned as the sound of light voices were heard. "And on that note," he said, "we need to go."
He began walking down another hallway, then another, and another.
Left, left, right, left, right.
His grip became more of an annoyance than a threat, but an annoyance nonetheless. They came to a short stop before a plain white door. Twisting the doorknob and pushing the door open, Ruy shoved Sophie inside, leaving but not before one last remark.
"Dining hall's on the right all the way down the hall."
The door closed shut, a little bit aggressive if you asked Sophie. She locked the door with a simple push lock before taking a look around what she assumed to be her new bedroom. The room was considerably bare, with a twin sized bed pushed against the back corner, a small desk against one wall, and on the left wall a standing mirror and a bookshelf. No books or any objects were placed on any of the shelves except one leather bound book.
The book from the library shelf stared back at her, looking just as magnificient as when she last saw it.
As Sophie picked it up, there were no changes except one. On the silver bird on the cover were the initials S.F engraved.
Her initials.
She opened the book, as she hadn't done in the library, seeing that every page was empty and looked to be hand-made.
Looking to one of the two small windows, she took a deep breath as the panic set in.
And so the story continues! I'm glad we're finally jumping into action, because it's much more fun to write :)
