Circus Bathed In Ash [Jaxita]
See, at some point, since I really love Jaxson, I'm just gonna a Circus! AU for them. Nothing One-Piece. Maybe even that'll become their main story. Roles have changed a bit.
The circus was alit with the yells and cries of joy as children ran around with their families, eyes sparkling as each new booth was brought into view.
Smiling, I clasped my hands tonight. "Why, it's lovely, Kiyohisa!"
Kiyohisa smiled, the grin wide, next to me. "Well, it's not like yer gonna have fun just standin' here," he chuckled, the noise throaty.
"I could still have fun drinking in the view."
"True, but it ain't as fun as the actual thing, Ashita. C'mon, you haven't tried cotton candy, have you?"
I blinked, moving my hands to rest at my sides. "I don't believe so. I have only heard that it's pure sugar."
"It is, but let's go!"
Clamping around mine, Kiyohisa's hand led me around the group of people. I could see people look at us with eyes of 'oh, that's a cute couple', but they didn't understand.
They didn't understand that I could never see Kiyohisa in a romantic perspective- he had his sights set on someone else, -and we had merely been like brother and sister for ages to count.
He tugged me through the crowd, pulling us to a stop in front of what I assumed to be a cotton candy booth. There were already two bunches of cotton candy out for us to see.
The maker, who was a man who was dressed in a simple robe-like shirt and baggy pants, eyes crinkled with sun-kissed skin, nodded to us. "Hello, dears," he greeted happily, a deep purr to his voice. "Cotton candy for two, I assume?"
"Ah, yes, please! How much will that be?"
"Nothing, dearest," he clicked his tongue. "Go enjoy the fair, ye two. These things won't pull anything outta yer pocket."
He added a wink to the end, flicking one hand towards the two cotton candy piles on the table. The movement was playful, more father-like then anything else.
"Thanks!" Kiyohisa called back as we took the sweets off the table.
"Thank you, son!"
"What a sweet man," I said, nodding.
He turned to me, face lighting up with that crooked smile of his. "Where do you wanna go next?"
I took a small bite out of the sweet, savor in how it completely melted into a delicious substance on my tongue. Kiyohisa caught sight of my blissful expression, the corner of his eyes wrinkling like the cracks in leather.
"I don't know," I said after I took a second bite. "You've been here before, where would you like to go?"
"Me?" Kiyohisa brought his watch up to his face. "Well, the circus show starts in 'bout half an hour. Wanna go into the house of mirrors? Rather a fan of it meself- we can do the maze of mirrors later."
"Okay! Let's go!" I cheered, surging forward as I nibbled at the cotton candy.
From behind me, I can hear Kiyohisa let out a short laugh, then it cuts off.
"Kiyohisa?"
"Hm?" He murmured, eyes distant. I followed his gaze to where we obtained the cotton-candy, but it...
It was abandoned.
In the span of minutes- two, I would guess- the spot became vacant. There was no sight of the cotton candy the man was making. The little lights that had hung inside of it were gone, not a trace left behind.
There was merely a blue glint at the table that I could see out of the corner of my eye, but when I turned my head to focus on it, it ceased to exist.
Spider webs hung from the corner of the booth, giving insight to someone who was there- but not the man I was looking for, instead a spider.
"Er- I'm sure it's nothing."
Kiyohisa's hands clamped around my eyes for a brief second as I, blind, moved with care as he did.
When his fingers pried from his face, we were standing at the house of mirrors.
He dropped the hand to his side. "Well, let's go."
But I caught glimpse of a tall, wry frame much like his own, feathery bangs framing the woman's face.
"Go for it," I laughed, giving him a light nudge towards the woman- Sako, who he was in love with.
Kiyohisa's lips wormed up in a smile. "Thanks, Ash," he added, using my nickname rather then my full name. Kiyohisa made it apparent that he preferred my real name in contrast to 'Ash'.
"Tell me when you come home with a girlfriend," I said, a similar smile on my lips as he darted off.
Turning to the house of mirrors, I inspected the rows of mirrors, and took a step forward. Another.
The world of mirrors danced in my vision, and I found myself running down rows and rows of mirrors, eyes drinking in every detail.
"You should enjoy yourself more, Ashita."
The voice of my father echoed in my head, and I smiled again, reaching out to brush my fingers against the fragile frame of the object.
It shattered beneath my fingers.
Snapping my hand back, I held my hand to my heart as I stated at the crack in wonder.
There were no mirrors behind me, yet the crack depicted a white blur, the glint of reflection.
Something shattered.
I whipped around.
Rather then a mirror, someone stood.
"Hello," he hummed as my eyes fell upon him. "Not many people fancy the house of mirrors. Most of them head to enjoy the maze of mirrors instead."
"Well, my friend said that we had little time until the circus show starts, so we wanted to try the maze of mirrors later..."
His head was tilted down, the deep green hat covering a mess of white hair that stuck out on either side of his head.
Straightening, there was a knowledgable smile on his lips. A pale face, cut in half by a masquerade mask covering his eyes and nose.
The mask was a beautiful color, gold glinting from where it lined the edges.
On the floor, fragments of glass glimmered, caught in the silver sheen on his mask.
His eyes were the things that popped the most- accents of red marked under the eye-sockets of the mask, the color highlighting his eyes.
He didn't reply to my question, instead inclining his head towards the glass pieces on the floor.
"Sir, I-"
Just like that, the man seemed to fizzle out of existence. I immediately looked to the side, locating him standing in the mirror.
"Do you need something?" I tempted.
"No. Not necessarily."
With that, he nudged back the tuff on his ear, seeming to frown (did it bother him?), but before the hair fell back into place, my eyes zeroed in on the earring that dangled from his ear, ruby red.
Catching me looking at it, he smiled again, tilting his head so I couldn't see the side the earring was on. "It's my... Friend's."
I was beginning to feel uneasy- the knot in my stomach had been growing ever since he appeared, and it crawled into my throat as he spoke.
"I will ask again: do you need anything of me? Why would you seek me out?"
The man considered me, head cocked to the side in a thoughtful manner. The smile on his lips dissipated.
"Nothing at all. Nothing at all, my lady."
He was gone.
I shook myself, gaze darting from where the floor was still holding the shattered pieces of glass.
But I didn't miss the whisper caught on the strange breeze that brushed through the house of mirrors.
"The show is for you tonight."
Jaxson sounds creepy for a reason, it's on purpose.
