Chapter 8
I'm on a roll!! 8 chapters in one day who am I lmao
---
Merlin gets up, shaking slightly whilst staring after the blonde. I squeezed his hand as a comfort and we headed to the throne room. Upon arrival I was ordered to wait outside. Arthur literally pryed our hands apart.
Shit have I messed up. Homosexuality has only just been accepted. During this time it is most likely a crime. Oh my god have I condemned Merlin to death.
No I won't let that happen. This is my fault, I won't let him get harmed for my actions.
I put my ear to the door and allow my enhanced hearing to take over. The conversation inside is not what I expected.
"What do you mean you don't want me with him? Who are you to tell me who to love."
"Merlin I'm not saying you can't date him. But he will have to leave eventually and you have to stay."
"I don't care Arthur."
"Well I do."
I couldn't bare anymore of the conversation. I whip round, knocking over a statue of armour in the process and run down the corridor. Thanks to my super speed, no one will be able to catch up to me.
I tear through the corridors until I end up in the courtyard. At the gate I hear a distant shout, but I ignore it. Villagers move out my way so I have a clear path to the edge of the city.
"Peter!" Merlin. How on earth is he keeping up? I mentally facepalm, forgetting that he can use a spell to enhance his speed.
I force my legs to go faster, debating whether to use my webs or not. The villagers will freak out. But if it means avoiding the inevitable conversation for a little longer…
My mind made up I shoot a web to a battlement positioned on the edge of the city and launch myself up and over. I land in a tree, high up enough to be hidden from sight. Thank god I wore my suit otherwise I would be in trouble.
After about ten minutes I hear Merlin's teary voice call out my name. It takes everything I have not to respond.
"Peter please come out." I shake my head even though he can't see me.
"Peter."
Don't respond, don't respond.
"So when something gets sour you just run away." He yells, anger evident in his wavering voice.
"Yes. Because every time I get close to someone they either die or turn out to be a villain. So yes I am running and you should too." I yell from the tree. Merlin appears below me, looking up to see me perched like a bird on one of the highest branches.
"φτερουγίζω." He rose to my level, eyes shining gold. He sits on a branch next to me and takes my hand.
"Peter you aren't going to lose me. The druids call me Emrys, I'm immortal." Immortal isn't invincible, but it's enough to convince me that he isn't going to leave me any time soon.
"Good, because even though I have just met you I don't want you to leave." I admit, snuggling into his side.
"We should probably stay out here for the night. Arthur needs to cool off, I may have yelled at him...a lot."
I giggle like a school girl. "I can't believe you yelled at a king because he was shit talking me."
"Well he is a prat and needs to be taught some god damn manners. Besides you did the same for me." Merlin murmurs, kissing my cheek and floating the both of us back to the ground.
We stayed in the woods longer than expected. It was four days later that we returned to the citadel, fresh faced and beaming. Those four days were probably some of the best I have ever had. Memories too personal to share.
Arthur didn't return our glee. In fact he looked pissed.
"Where the hell have you been Merlin?"
"Why would you care." Merlin spat back. From their endless conversations, I had learned that Arthur has been really horrible to Merlin lately, and he has had just about enough of it.
Arthur seemed lost for words so he just sent us away. We headed to Gaius's chamber and settled down in Merlin's little room.
"We should get some sleep." Merlin whispers as the light drains from the room. I hum in agreement and slip into Merlin's small bed.
----
It's been a month and I have honestly never been happier. Of course I miss the avengers like crazy, but Karen has been able so send the occasional message thanks to Mr Stark's amazing tech.
By now they know everything, except me and Merlin. I was planning to keep it that way. I would rather not have the teases when I return. If I return.
Merlin said he knew a spell, but it has never been discussed after that first mention. I know he doesn't want me to leave, but I have been planning a surprise that I think he will love.
I find him in the courtyard, fishing the bucket out the well.
"Hi Merlin." I say kissing him lightly on the cheek. People grimace at our affection but I just glare at them.
"Hi Peter. What's up."
"I need to talk to you. But not here." I grab his wrist and pull him into the castle. I head for an unused bedroom and lock the door behind us.
"So I have been thinking and I think I know a way for us to stay together when I leave." Merlin's eyes sparkled at the suggestion.
"How?"
"I have been working on a spell. You taught me so much about magic this past month and I think I am finally ready to try it." I explain the basis of the spell and Merlin's brow furrows.
"It's risky, but worth it. I think it will work." Merlin exclaimed, pulling me into a hug.
"Should we get started?" Merlin nods and takes my hands just like I explained.
"όταν επιστρέψω στο χρόνο μου, θα με περιμένετε εκεί" I chant, after two or three incantations Merlin joins in and the strength of the spell doubles. Once we have finished I can tell it worked.
We have been bound together. Nothing shall part us.
"I guess we will need to tell the others of this." Merlin said with a small spell. They had all agreed a week prior that any magic practiced must be reported to the Knights or Arthur himself.
"I guess. This will be a fun one to explain."
We headed to the training grounds, where the majority of the Knights, plus a very grumpy Arthur, were currently training.
Arthur noticed us first and perked up. He had forgiven us for our little disappearing act a week ago and has been quite sweet about the whole relationship. I still haven't completely forgiven him but his kindness is slowly earning trust.
"Merlin, Peter what's up. Did you use magic again." He asked with a hint of a smile.
"We did. But this is going to be a long one to explain." I said preparing the king. He nods and sits on one of the many benches.
"So I can up with this spell that will bind our souls together. When I travel back to my time, his doppelgänger of sorts will receive all his memories of Camelot. This will not take him from your time, so don't worry you won't lose him. But it will mean that we can be together back in my time."
Arthur seemed very confused at first, I admit I didn't explain it in the best way (a/n yeah I really didn't, I had no clue how to) but after a while a beaming smile spread across his face.
"That's great news. I am glad you figured this out Peter." I smiled back at him, intertwining my fingers with Merlin's.
"Does this mean you will be leaving soon?" Gwaine questioned, slightly hurt. Throughout my time here Gwaine has acted like a big brother of sorts and we have spent a great deal of time together.
"Sadly yes. But I did have another idea." Merlin looked at me confused, so I continued. "I don't want Merlin to be alone, he will remember all of you when he is awoken. I would never want him to miss you. So I wrote another spell, one that will create doppelgängers for all of you. Time will continue as normal, but in effect skip ahead for me. You will grow old here, then relive your life in the modern world."
(A/N I hope I explained that a bit better.)
"You would do that for me? For all of us?" Merlin asked with tears in his eyes.
"Well yeah. You guys have become like a second family to me. Even more to you Merlin. I don't want to take that away from you." Merlin hugged me tightly, the others cooing in the most annoying tone ever.
"Okay okay, I love you too. Now let's go do this spell." I manage to pry Merlin off enough so I can walk to a secluded area of the training field, out of sight from the other Knights and servants.
"Right I need everyone to hold hands. This is going to feel weird, but under no circumstances do you let go or the spell will not work."
Everyone nodded and held hands. I began to chant, my eyes turning fiery gold with effort.
"θα ξαναδούμε" I repeated this about five times, Merlin joining in on the third, until I could sense the magic had settled in.
"There. It's done." I said with a beaming smile. Everyone smiled back. Unbeknownst to Merlin I had already completed this spell on Gaius, who I know he considers as a father. I thought it would be a nice surprise.
"How long will it be till we see you again?" Lancelot questions.
"Well technically it will be the rest of your lives. But don't worry,it won't feel like it." The others nodded, looking solemnly at me.
"So when are you leaving?" Merlin whispers.
"Whenever you're ready."
"I'll never be ready."
"Hey, we'll see each other again. Take your time okay, I don't want to rush this either."
Once again the men around us cooed at our cute exchange, to which I flipped them off. Something I had brought with me and introduced here. I know I probably shouldn't, but it was so fun seeing Gwaine flip of Arthur, then explaining what it meant.
Come to think of it I have probably introduced a lot of things. Who knows what effect it will have on the future? Oh well!
