An:So I started thinking about this story when I was reading Tightly Knit by kmbell92. I don't know if you've read it but you should v.v It kind of inspired the story, well it inspired me to start writing again. Either way I alked with a friend about it and decided that it was time to write it down. If there are any mistakes I want you to know that English is not my first language. My first language is german so forgive me if there are any mistakes. When I am finished with the story I'll look over it and redo it but for now you have to live with it. I'd love to hear some feedback or what you think the story will be about. So thank you for reading untill here and enjoy the story^^
Alice McIntire was simply a normal girl. Her whole life she thought of herself as nothing more than average. When her little sister Alyssa was born she felt important. She felt that she finally was able to do something, that she had a task to fulfil. She only wanted her sister to become a lively and happy girl.
Her mother feared that Alice would lose her friends or miss out on important events in her life if she kept on caring for her little sister in this excessive way but her daughter knew how to choose her friends right so she did not have to suffer from her actions. She loved the little friends she had and she dearly loved her little sister. Alice had no reason to be sad or to feel alone in any kind of way.
It was one morning that Alice's world went turning upside down and she started questioning everything she thought was right and wrong.
Alyssa was already awake and helping their mother in the kitchen making the breakfast when Alice came down the stairs. Mr McIntire was already at work so it was only the three this morning.
"Good morning, darling," greeted Mrs McIntire her daughter, "Come and sit down love, breakfast will be ready any minute".
"Alice, Alice! Mummy is making pancakes," laughed Alyssa and hugged her sister.
"Did you sleep well Ally?" Alice smiled at her and tousled her hair. While Alyssa tried to escape her sister Mrs McIntire put everything on the table and told them to behave well and start eating.
That was how nearly every morning went on in the McIntire household. After breakfast the two sisters would watch a bit of TV or go outside to play. Sometimes Alice's friends would come over and they would all do something together as the little village Ottery St. Catchpole had enough places where the girls could spent their time. But on this special morning the two decided to help their mother with the dishes so they stayed inside. Mrs McIntire also wanted to clean the kitchen windows so she opened them. That was when a loud screech interrupted the family while cleaning. Alice and Alyssa stared wide eyed at the large brown owl sitting in the window. Their Mother screamed and clutched a chair so she would not fall. The owl looked at the family, hooted, left a letter and flew away.
It took them a couple of minutes to get to the window and take the letter but in the end the whole family sat around the kitchen table, the letter in between them.
It was addressed to
Alyssa McIntire
Kitchen table
Nr 7 St George Alley
Ottery St Catchpole
Now, why it said Kitchen table was the last thing the family thought about. The real Letter was what confused them to no end. Apparently Alyssa was accepted at a school called Hogwarts and this school was to be a school of witchcraft and wizardry. Alice looked at her little sister and thought about why someone would want to play such a mean prank on her. Witchcraft and wizardry? How could someone think they would possibly believe that? Either way they tried to ignore it and explained to Alyssa that she should not believe in letters brought to them by owls. When they finally convinced her not to ask any more questions the door bell rang. Alice had a bad feeling when she opened the door and it got even worse when looked at the woman in front of her. She looked old but strong and wore a strange dress. On her head was a hat which looked like a witch hat you wore while trick or treating on Halloween to dress up. The woman smiled at her and introduced herself as Minerva McGonagall, Deputy Headmaster of Hogwarts school of witchcraft and wizardry. She explained that Alyssa was in fact a witch and that this Hogwarts was a school just for people like her: witches and wizards. She told them everything they needed to know and more.
When she left her eyes fell on Alice. Just for a short moment, so short nobody except Alice noticed it. She felt a twinge in her heart when the eyes of the strange woman lay on her. She would never say it out loud but what she felt was jealousy. At that exact moment Alice knew that life for her and her sister as they knew it was never going to be the same.
