Chapter 9
The train entered the platform where Alice was already waiting for it. She had longed for this moment to finally see Alyssa again after what had happened in Hogwarts. Even though Fred had assured her in his letters that she was fine Alice had to make sure with her own eyes or else she would keep on worrying. The platform was filled with steam and Alice had trouble seeing anything at all but she heard them. She heard them exiting the train and she could hear her sister laughing. Slowly she walked in the direction she thought Alyssa was. Alice saw a flash of red hair and began to walk faster. When she reached them she recognized her sister a relieved sigh escaping her lips. She looked okay, not shaken up at all. Fred had been right, she had not needed to worry at all.
Alice ran to her sister and engulfed her in a hug.
"You're all right!" she said happily and looked at her.
"Hello to you too big sister," Alyssa laughed, then nodded, "I'm actually quite all right"
"That's good," smiled Alice and looked at Ginny, "And how are you? I heard you were kept prisoner? Is everything all right with you too?"
She started to sound worried again. It was hard to shake off some habits and it was even harder to not think about how someone would feel if he was a prisoner against his will.
"Now now, love. Don't start to worry again. You see: Ginny was just playing Hide and Seek with the wee little snakey," Fred lay his arm around her shoulder on her right side while George did the same on her left.
"Yes, yes she was just too tired and started drifting off while playing, that's why everyone had to look for her."
"I don't get it. We're you two not worried? I mean it was your little sister who was inside this secret chamber!" said Alice exasperated, "Or are you making fun of me again? That's not very nice!"
She tried to twine out of their embrace and turned around to look at them, one eyebrow raised and arms crossed in front of her breasts.
"Is that the death glare we've heard of?" grinned Fred.
"Looks quite intimidating to me," sniggered George.
Alice sighed, "Whatever...," she mumbled and stalked off.
She hated it that those two confused her so much. It had been the same way with their letters. They had been funny but they had always managed to confuse her to no end especially how she felt towards those letters or those two. She thought they were funny and that she liked them but she wasn't sure if she could consider them friends. She wanted to and by now maybe Fred and George thought the same of her but she did not like it when somebody made fun of her which was why she was so confused. Was it normal for friends to make fun of each other? She and her friends certainly did not do such things.
Alice heard footsteps behind her and turned around. Fred was following her while George was still standing with Alyssa and the rest.
"What do you want?" she asked.
"Just checking on you. Why did you get so angry?" he said and looked at her.
"I...," she hesitated.
Was it okay to ask something like that? Would he reply normally or would he make fun of her again? Still she wanted to know.
"Is it normal to make fun of each other if they are your friend?" Alice asked quietly.
Fred was watching her with a surprised look on his face. "Did you...did you think we were making fun of you to harass you?" he laughed.
Perfect, now he's laughing at my dumbness, she thought and bit on her lips so no tears would form in her eyes.
"No no, don't worry it's just our way of being funny I guess. We're friends, Alice so don't take everything serious we say," Fred's eyes found hers. He looked very sincere and Alice decided to believe him.
"Okay," she said and a smile formed on her lips. "We're friends."
"Wow someone is really happy here," said George as he joined the two.
"Yeah but certainly not because of you," grinned Alice, than she laughed because George looked dumbfounded. It was the first time she had made such a comment so he had not expected something like that.
"So boys, I should probably go and get my sister so we can drive home," she looked at Fed and winked. "Thank you, you know for what," she said and went to get her sister.
With her sister and Ginny were Mr and Mrs Weasley. They waved at Alice and Mrs Weasley greeted her with a hug.
"I've heard so much of you dear," she said.
"Thank you very much for the jumpers Mrs Weasley, it is very comfortable and I like that it has an A on it. And the colour is just beautiful," she smiled at the woman in front of her.
Mrs Weasley was a friendly looking woman, with wrinkles next to her eyes from laughing too much. "Oh, you don't have to thank me dear. I was told by someone that you would probably love to have one."
"You have been told that? How nice of that someone," she smiled and her eyes wandered to the twins who had joined them again. They were staring into the sky, whistling like they did not care at all. Alice laughed silently. Then she said goodbye and together with her sister they went home.
At home and after dinner she helped her sister unpacking. Alyssa was talking the whole time because she had to tell the stories which did not make it into her letters. They laughed together. It was nice for Alice to not longer be alone and hearing her sisters voice again.
"So what's that with you and the twins? Or with you and Fred in particular?" Alyssa asked.
Alice was startled. "What do you mean? We're friends. And as for me and Fred he merely helped me out in a situation so there's nothing between us. Am I not allowed to have friends of the other sexuality?"
"Sure you are. I was just curious," Ally said and stuck out her tongue at her. "But you totally want to snogg him," she added before running away.
"Oh wait 'till I get you!" Alice shouted and followed her. She raced her out of the house but Alyssa had quite the head start and when Alice turned around the corner she collided with a certain someone.
"This seems to become a habit," Fred said while laughing.
Alice looked at him and her eyes went wide. "I'm sorry but I did not expect you two."
"Well it was suposed to be a surprise," grinned George and helped both of them up.
"I guess it was a success then," Alice stood up with George's help and brushed the dust off of her. "So what do you guys want?" she asked and looked at them.
"Ginny wanted to come and get Ally. She wants to show her where we live so we thought - "
" - why not tag along and do the same with Alice," finished George Fred's sentence. They grinned at her.
"Do you two do that often?"
"What often?" they said at the same time.
"Uhm that."
"What?"
"Uhm...oh nevermind. Let's just...go."
"Won't let you tell us twice," they said cheerily, linked their arms with hers and dragged her with them.
The Burrow really wasn't far aways from their house. In fact it was merely a five minutes walk. Alice looked awestruck at the house. Every corner oozed the feeling of magic and warmth.
"This...this is...wow," she said speechless.
It was even better when they entered the house. Things were moving by itself and she could feel the magic.
"Wow," she said again.
Fred smiled and tousled her hair. "It's not that cool, just a normal house."
"It's anything but normal Fred! It's just awesome! Everything here feels warm and homey and all the magic...this is wonderful."
George laughed, "I think someone likes it here."
"I thinks so too, Georgie," said Fred. "But we wanted to show you something else."
Alice was dragged outside and into a shed.
"This is where we keep our brooms," said George and looked at her.
"Ready for a little ride?" grinned Fred.
Alice looked at them dumbfounded. "You want me to ride a broom? Alone?"
Fred shook his head "No it's not possible for a Muggle but you can sit behind me."
Alice beamed at him. "You would do that? Thank you." He smiled at her and took a broom while George took the other one.
"We'll just fly around the house and maybe a little further. We can't have the muggles see us."
Fred mounted his broom and Alice sat down behind him. She snaked her arms around his waist and held on tight. Then she felt her feet leaving the ground and Fred started spiralling into the sky. She felt the cool wind tangling in her hair and let out a laugh.
"This is perfect."
"Glad you like it. Now hold on tight," instructed her Fred and leapt towards the earth. A muffled sound of surprise left Alice's lips and she felt herself being pressed against Fred's back while holding onto him tighter in fear of falling off. George was right beside them watching the scene with amusement. Then Fred sped up again and spiralled around the house flying higher and higher. Alice laughed. She felt the wind in her hair, felt free. She was quite aware of the fact that Fred's back was pressed against her but she felt just too good to get flustered about it.
"Thanks," she said, her lips near his ear so he could hear her.
Only George noticed the very short but sudden loss of height Fred's broom had in that moment.
When they landed again Alice got off the broom smiling brightly. She looked at Fred and George.
"That was pretty damn exciting and very nice of you two."
"Were always nice," said George.
"You just don't see it," Fred winked at her.
Alice giggled and shrugged her shoulders, "Maybe you're right."
The twins laughed, "Now come on, I guess we have to bring you and Ally home."
They went to get Alyssa and said goodbye to the rest. Then Fred and George walked the two home. Alyssa said goodbye to the twins and went inside but Alice stood behind. She looked at them thoughtfully. It was obvious that she wanted to say something so they waited for her to speak.
"Uhm...Thanks for becoming my friends. I...It...It was nice to have someone other than my sister to write to. I guess this summer will indeed be fun," she smiled, then hugged them and went inside.
Fred and George looked at the closed door, surprised by her words and actions.
"You know what, George?"
"What, Fred?"
"I like her. We made a good decision in writing her."
"Yeah I like her too."
They grinned at each other. "This summer WILL be fun."
An: The Weasley's don't know yet that they will be going to Egypt.
