Chapter 37

An: Oh my god it's there! I'm sorry for the lack of chapters in the last week but with school and my Abitur closing in I just don't find the right time to write. Still, I try to update at least once a wekk from now on.

Now read, enjoy, vote and comment, the usual way^^

"He was jealous!" squealed Amara after being told what had happened at Hogsmeade.

Alice had walked straight back to the castle after her little dispute with Fred. She was still quite upset about it, even though some time had passed.

"He was not jealous, Amara. He was angry that I told Cedric something I shouldn't have told him, well in his eyes at least. For me it felt right, though. Telling him was the right decision," said Alice sternly.

Her friend looked at her thoughtfully. She was quiet for some time, probably thinking about an answer. Alice was glad that she had walked right into her on her way back. Apparently she had seen Alice walking away from Fred and had followed her instead of continuing the date with George.  At least that was what Amara had told Alice.

"You know, if you think it was right then it probably was. I mean it is still your decision whom to tell and who not, whatever it is that you told. I'm not going to question what it was, though. I know you probably have a reason for not telling me, Alice and I'll respect that. As far as I'm concerned I think that prior to that only Fred and George were aware of your secret, am I right?" said Amara after a while to her. Alice nodded her head and looked at her friend.

"Yes, kind of."

"Well, then Fred maybe wasn't expecting you to tell it to anyone else. Maybe he even felt special knowing what the others didn't know or something like that. Either way, you shouldn't dwell on it, Alice. I'm sure Fred wants to reconcile with you as soon as possible, just like you want to," said Amara and smiled reassuringly at her.

"I don't know, Amara. I mean, I understand what you say and you're making a valid point there but at the same time I think he just acted way to childish. I know that we should probably talk but...I want him to talk to me first. I want him to apologize for his behaviour. You should have heard him, he was such a git. The way he spoke...I know I did nothing wrong and still he accused me of doing so, Am," said Alice finally and sighed. "I know it sounds selfish but I don't want him to think that it is okay to act like this."

She had made up her mind. She was not going to let Fred off with what he said. She hoped that he would soon realise what he did wrong and apologise to her. If not, Alice wasn't quite sure what she would do then.

Although Alice had said that, on Sunday she was already about to gave in and talk to Fred. She hated not talking to him, because that meant not talking to George too as the two never seemed to separate.

She was suddenly alone, at least she was missing her best friends. Amara and Cedric were there for her, that much she knew but it still wasn't the same. She missed talking to them and just thinking about how she would not be able to talk to them when she saw them made her realise how important it was to her. She feared that she would lose them as friends as it had been that way with her Muggle friends.

After spending much more time with the twins her friends had talked less to her at school which had ended into them stopping to talk to her completely. She had lost her small amount of friends in just a short amount of time but having the twins had helped her a lot. She had regretted – and she still did now – that she had driven them into not wanting to be her friends anymore. After all it had been Alice who no longer had had the time for her friends.

So, when she walked into the library on Sunday where the twins were too, she was fully convinced that she would talk to Fred. But he just stood up, took George and left the library. Alice was left behind with an uneasy feeling in her tummy.

Monday wasn't much better. Alice had her first lesson together with Gryffindor which resulted in her moving together with Amara to a new place in Defense Against The Dark Arts. When Fred and George entered the class they looked confused, at least George did. Fred just walked right past her and sat down on his old seat. George looked at Alice apologetically and sat down next to his brother. Alice sighed frustrated and let her head fall to the table.

"Why are you not talking to her again?" asked George his brother as he sat down next to him.

"Because she told Cedric about everything that happened at the World Cup and she still doesn't see why it wasn't right to tell him. She promised Dumbledore to not tell anyone and then she goes and tells the first person that seems trustworthy to her," huffed Fred annoyed.

George sighed. His brother could be such a thick headed git sometimes.

"Well, it is still technically her decision to make -," began George but was immediately interrupted by Fred.

"She should have asked us first, George. To tell someone is one thing but to tell it to Cedric is a whole other point," said Fred.

"Don't you think you're taking it a bit too far? I mean, I know that we were still angry at him at the World Cup because of that damn Quidditch game but that was quite some time ago. Shouldn't you at least, I don't know, try to think good of him? Alice wouldn't be friends with him if he wasn't trustworthy," tried George to reason with him.

"So you're taking her side?" said Fred and looked at him with his brows knitted together.

"I'm taking no one's side," said George. "I don't want to be part of your little dispute. I just don't see the harm in telling Diggory, Fred. I mean, she said that she told him some time ago and does it seem to you that all of Hogwarts know about the incident now?"

"No, I guess not...but who knows what he will do," said Fred defensively.

George sighed at his brothers' stubbornness and tried to concentrate on the lesson.

Tuesday meant that the first task would be taking place. Cedric had told them that it would involve dragons, as Harry had explained it to him. Alice was kind of glad that both Cedric and Harry at least knew what was going to come.

The lessons were to stop at midday, giving all the students time to get down to the first task. Alice had not spoken with the twins since Saturday afternoon and it didn't seem like it would be any different on this day. Still, she tried to look forward to the task and even discussed with Amara what the champions were going to do against the dragon.

On her way to the enclosure she saw Harry and wished him good luck. The boy seemed quite distant to her and she hoped for him that he would get out alive.

Cedric had already gone outside, as all the champions were being called upon earlier than the students, so it was just herself and Amara. Together with Ginny and Alyssa, they left the castle to get to the enclosure.

There had been stands erected on which they took place. The students were chattering loudly and next to her Ally and Ginny had a hard time sitting on their seats as they were constantly hoping up and down to get a good look when the first champion would come out.

Then a whistle blew and Alice saw Bagman come out of a tent. Anxiety and excitement were fighting inside her, as she saw the giant blueish-grey Dragon brought into the arena.

"Ladies and Gentlemen!" sounded Bagman's voice through the air. "I am happy to announce that the first task will now begin!"

Applause erupted and everyone was excitedly anticipating the announcement of the first contestant.

"I know how everyone is excited for the first champion to come out of this tent so let's not wait any longer for Cedric Diggory!" shouted Bagman loudly and Alice could see Cedric coming onto the enclosure, awaited by an even louder applause than before.

"Doesn't he look a bit greenish to you?" asked Amara next to her. Alice nodded in agreement.

"He will be going against the Swedish short-snout, brought to us from Romania. He has to get the golden egg which is guarded by the female dragon. Now let's all wish him luck and let it start!" echoed his voice through the stands.

It became very silent as Cedric started to approach the dragon. The giant female was aware of him since he entered the place as her eyes followed his every move.

Alice began biting on her lower lip out of fear that he would get hurt or worse. She hoped dearly that he would get the egg soon, otherwise she would faint out of sheer anxiety.

Cedric was now trying to get closer to the egg but the dragon was lashing out at him again and again. She wouldn't let him come closer if he wanted to get out alive.

All the while, Bagman was commenting on every move he made and it was not helping either. If only it made Alice even more nervous and Cedric probably too, as he was being called out on his mistakes.

Cedric tried to lure the dragon away by transfiguring a large rock into a Labrador which went well of a short amount of time. He was able to get hold of the egg and ran away but the dragon soon lost interest in the dog and focused on Cedric again, getting angry and burning him with his fire.

"Oh my god!" whispered Alice and looked at him worried. It didn't seem very bad but he still got burnt by dragon fire which wasn't to be taken lightly.

"Clever move – pity it didn't work," said Bagman and a loud roar was heard. Cedric had made it even though he got hurt on the way.

After the judges had awarded him with his points – them being thirty-eight – he was immediately treated by Madame Pomfrey. Then Fleur Delacour, the Beauxbatons champion, was announced and entered the enclosure going against a welsh-green dragon.

"Seriously? She's trying to fend off a dragon in a skirt?" said Ally next to her. Alice had to retain her laughter as she too had asked herself the same thing just about seconds ago.

"We are indeed sisters, little monster," said Alice proud.

Fleur tried to get the egg by making the dragon fall asleep. It did work but the dragon started snoring and shot a stream of fire out of his nose which set her skirt on fire.

Alice and Alyssa both started laughing when this happened.

"See? A skirt is never good when it comes to dragons," said Ally.

"Can't argue that," said Alice, trying to calm down again.

The Delacour girl scored 36 points some of them taken away because of the fire and her kind of clumsy behaviour, guessed Alice.

The third champion to enter was Viktor Krum. The crowd erupted with applause upon him entering the enclosure. His opponent would be a female Chinese fireball dragon.

He blinded it with a spell which got him enough time to get the golden egg.

However, the dragon was so confused by this spell that she trampled on some of her real eggs which Krum had to pay with points. None the less he scored forty points, bringing him in first place.

"It's Harry's turn now...What d'you think his dragon will be?" asked Amara.

"No plan," said Alice. "But I do hope that it's not a giant badass one."

"Well, I don't think you can route for that," said Ginny with wide eyes.

A giant, vicious looking dragon was brought into the enclosure. She had a horned tail and was, as Bagman revealed, a Hungarian Horntail.

"By Merlin. Seems like luck is not on his side," said Allysa.

The boy was staring at the dragon. He wasn't doing anything which confused Alice. At least the other champions had tried to get the egg right away. Then he raised his wand, obviously using a spell but she could not hear which and nothing happened either.

Soon it became clear though that he had a plan as his firebolt broom came flying to him. He hoped onto it and went right at the dragon who was following him carefully with his head.

The shouting of the crowd was becoming louder and louder and even Bagman was getting really excited. That Harry was using a broom was something that nobody had expected.

The bespectacled boy was out circling the dragon as if he was just in a Quidditch game and the golden egg was the snitch. Alice watched in awe as he finally caught the egg and finished the task as the fastest. The judges gave him forty points a minority of them taken away because he got hurt a bit on his shoulders as Bagman explained. Still, he tied in first place with Krum now.

Alice went downstairs together with Amara just to see Cho entering Madam Pomfrey's tent.

"I guess we have to wait 'till we can talk to him," said Amara with a knowing look. Alice nodded and instead went to congratulate Harry.

"You can be really proud of yourself, Harry," said Alice with a smile.

"Thank you," said Harry seemingly exhausted.

"You did really well out there. The way you flew your broom – it was fantastic. Just like the Quidditch player at the World Cup," said Alice making Harry blush. The compliment seemed to make him proud as he smiled and thanked her. Then he went off as Hermione and Ron were both approaching him. Alice hoped for him that he could reconcile with Ron as they had not talked since the day of the announcement for the champions, as Alyssa had told her.

She sighed as she thought of reconciliation.

What if she and Fred would not reconcile?

What if it would end like it ended with her Muggle friends?

Alice feared that everything would go wrong and that just because of this small dispute they would stop being friends. Maybe she was overreacting but it was hard not to, at least for her.

Before they could talk to Cedric the champions had been called into the tent again to talk to Ludo Bagman, as he would tell them something concerning the second task, so Alice and Amara went back to the castle alone.

"You seem distant since we were in the tent. What's wrong?" asked Amara, sounding worried. "Is it still about the thing with Fred?"

"Yes, kind of," said Alice sighing. "It's just that Harry and Ron stopped talking for so long and now they reconciled. What if me and Fred can't do that? I mean I want to talk to him but I'm afraid too. What if it goes wrong and he hates me? What if he just ignores me? What if I do something wrong?"

"Oh come on Alice, it won't be that bad. You'll see, once you've talked it will all be okay, maybe even better," tried Amara to cheer her up. She gave her friend a reassuring hug.

Alice nodded even though she wasn't really believing what her friend was saying. After all she had witnessed what could come of such a small argument and what it took for people to reconcile. Ron had to see Harry competing in a live or die fight to finally see that his best friend hadn't entered himself. How in the world would Fred believe her that Cedric was trustworthy and that her decision wasn't wrong?

She was dreading the next days to come as she already knew that it wouldn't be easy to talk to the stubborn twin. It didn't help either that anxiety was building inside her which she tried to ignore. She still felt uneasy about her magic doing such abnormal things and the issues with Fred were only adding to that.

If she did not find a way to come to terms with herbest friend, she feared that everything would go wrong after that.
