Chapter Twenty Four
Draco climbed out of the cabin a few minutes later and Hermione was right behind him. The sun's heat fell on him almost immediately and he was glad that he had took a refreshing shower.
He spotted James sitting on the bench, staring out to sea with a sad and tired expression on his face.
"Hey," muttered James.
He glanced at Draco and Hermione. A thoughtful expression crossed his face as Hermione clenched Draco's hand.
"We need to talk," said Draco, taking a seat next to James.
Hermione sat down too, not letting go of Draco's hand. James sighed and sat up straighter. Draco wished he would more lively and not moody like this although he knew the reason why, he wanted to get the important business out of the way.
"I have to leave," said James clearly, "I can't stay anymore. I need to go back to my father!"
"He's going to hate you for this and my father will torture you," said Draco seriously, frowning at him.
"I can't stay here!" yelled James, "You wouldn't understand."
"James," Draco said and glanced at Hermione, "I do understand but I need you to stay with us."
"Why?" asked James, "You don't need me anymore, Draco."
Draco shook his head and noticed that birds were flying over his head. He wondered how James had gotten the message to hide Hermione but dismissed the thought.
He felt like he was drowning in the heat that bounced off the boat and straight onto their bodies.
"I need you to stay with us, James. You're going to hurt yourself by going back and... I need your help," pleaded Draco, clapping a hand onto his back, "Will you stay?"
James hesitated, thinking it through. Finally he rolled his eyes. He sighed tiredly and nodded.
"Fine," he said, "I'll stay for now."
"Thanks, mate," said Draco, "now I was thinking... We should go to the Weasley house."
Hermione frowned at him as though he had confessed something awful. She didn't understand why he would want to go to the Weasley's?
"Because," he chuckled at Hermione's face, "My father will find out that you're aren't dead and he'll be back for you. We go to the Weasley's and ask for their help, also Potter's help, and try to get my father arrested."
"And my father?" asked James with a solemn expression.
Draco sighed and Hermione squeezed his hand to show some comfort. Draco pursed his lips and looked up to James, keeping his gaze steady and unfaltering.
"I guess, he's not done anythig so he may not be arrested," Draco said and shrugged his shoulders.
"He deserves to be arrested. For agreeing to this and just wanting to kill her..." muttered James, "I'm in."
"Thanks, mate," said Draco, although he knew James was still upset at the thought of his father suffering so he didn't press the matter.
"So when do we get there?" asked Hermione, nervously.
"We can apparate right now," said Draco, "get all of your stuff ready and we'll go."
James stood up but Draco stopped him by placing a hand on his arm. James sighed and sat back down and leaned back like he was a teenager in trouble for something bad he had done.
"Can I talk to you, James?" asked Draco, "for a minute?"
"Sure," said James, although he rolled his eyes at Draco's tone.
Draco looked at Hermione, who knew that he wanted to talk to him alone. She stood up but Draco pulled her down and brushed his lips to her's lightly. Hermione was bright red as she walked away. Draco smiled and then his smile fell away as he turned to James, who was glaring at him. Draco sighed and James kept his eyes on Draco, angrily.
"Listen," started Draco as Hermione disappeared into the cabin.
"You said you wouldn't be back," muttered James, cutting him off.
"You're jealous and I get that but... she doesn't-"
"I know. She doesn't feel anything for me. She loved you. I get it. It doesn't make this easier, Draco," said James, he buried his face in his hands.
"It's not easy. No one said it was going to be," stated Draco fiercely, "You'll find her. That one girl. Hermione isn't that girl."
James shrugged like he couldn't care but Draco could tell how much he was hurting. He couldn't do anything for him. James would realise that in time. All it took to make everything fine sometimes was time.
Draco stood up as he had no idea how to comfort James. He went into the cabin and was glad to get away from the heat of the sun. He spotted Hermione, lying down on the bed, staring at the ceiling.
"What are you thinking about?" asked Draco as he bent down next to her.
"You... James... I broke his heart, didn't I?" asked Hermione.
Draco caught the tear that fell out of her eye and he rubbed it on the sheets. Hermione sat up and grabbed his hands, pulling him so that he sat next to her. She wrapped her arms around him and lay her head on his shoulder.
"I love you," muttered Draco, playing with her hair.
"I love you too, Draco," said Hermione and she leaned up to kiss him.
Draco kissed her back but knew she wasn't in the mood. She slowly pulled back to look at him.
"I broke his heart," muttered Hermione, leaning into him again.
"Hermione, he needed that to grow as a person. He will find the one person who will be his forever," said Draco, "You're mine and I can't share you."
---
They had collected their belongings, very little of them as they only had a bag to carry, Draco took Hermione's shaking hand in his and James took Hermione's other hand.
"Ready?" asked Draco, "Hermione, you better apparate."
"Got it," said Hermione since she knew exactly where the Weasley's lived.
Hermione concentrated for a second and they disapparated. Their feet landed on some yellow weeds and they looked up to see the Weasley house looming before them. For Hermione, they made her think of Ron but sh knew that what she was about to do would be worthwhile so she grit her teeth and lead them into the Weasley house.
"Are you-" asked Draco but Hermione cut him off by nodding.
She knocked on the door and waited nervously. Finally the door slowly opened and Hermione saw four familiar faces. Harry, Ginny, George and Mrs Weasley.
"Hermione!" shouted Harry and he looked behind her to see Draco and James, "You! Should've known you'd be behind this."
Harry went past Mrs Weasley so that he was standing outside. He grabbed Hermione's hand and pulled her to him.
"Are you alright?" asked Harry, grabbing her face in his hands.
"Harry, I'm fine but-"
Hermione was cut off as Harry leaned in to kiss her. Their lips met and he held her closer to his body. Hermione was yanked back by who she suppose was Draco. Draco shoved Harry, glaring at him angrily as Harry shoved him back.
"Don't touch my girlfriend!" said Draco, shoving him with force.
"Girlfriend?" Harry asked like he didn't believe Draco.
His green eyes bore into Hermione who nodded an graves Draco's hand, pulling him beside her. Harry's eyes flashed as Draco's hand closed around her waist.
"Unbeliveable," he muttered angrily and stomped into the house and up the stairs.
"Everyone wants the girl," muttered James after a period of silence.
"Who are you, may I ask?" asked Ginny, coming to stand next to her mother.
"I'm James and you?" asked James, taking her hand in his.
"Ginny," she muttered, smiling at him.
Draco laughed and clapped James on the back but stopped as Mrs Weasley came to stand in front of Hermione.
"I've lost two sons already... Ron and Fred... I thought I had lost you too," she said and a rear fell down her cheek.
Hermione started to sprout tears as she hugged Mrs Weasley.
"What happened to you? Everyone said you got kidnapped." asked George as Hermione pulled away from Mrs Weasley.
Hermione turned to Draco. He sighed and held his hands up.
"If I tell you, you'll murder me right here so how about we go inside and talk?" asked Draco.
"Are you sure we can trust him?" asked George, directing the question to Hermione.
"I'm positive," said Hermione, nervously.
Draco squeezed her hand in way of comfort as Mrs Weasley let them in. She lead them into the kitchen. They took a seat and she made tea. It was total silence as she sat the tea in from of Hermione, James and Draco.
"Now tell me," said Mrs Weasley.
Hermione turned to Draco just as he turned to Hermione.
"Fine, I'll explain," said Draco.
He went into an explanation of how she got caught. Mrs Weasley frowned as he said that he had set her up.
"You? And, Hermione, you trust him?" asked Mrs Weasley.
George and Ginny were frowning too and Hermione simply nodded and let Draco continue. He told them how she was kept hostage and how Draco gave her food and water. He told them about James. He continued to tell them how they broke her out and all the recent events. He didn't leave out a single thing.
"I knew you probably don't trust me but... I need your help to arrest my father," explained Draco, "I won't let him hurt her again... or anyone."
"You really love her?" asked George.
"I do. She means everything to me. Now I know that I can't live without her and I don't plan to," said Draco, looking at Hermione.
"What if she doesn't want you?" asked George.
"Then," Draco gulped and shrugged, "She doesn't have to but I wouln't live without her."
"I want to be with him," said Hermione, "I love him."
"I love you too," muttered Draco.
George narrowed his eyes at Draco but he kept a steady gaze. Finally George nodded after he was done sizing him up.
"What do we do to arrest him then?" he asked, clapping his hands.
"First of all," said Mrs Weasley, standing up, "You can rest. Show them their rooms Ginny."
"Yes, mum," said Ginny.
She lead them out of the kitchen and up the stairs. Hermione walked beside her. Draco and James were whispering behind them but they took no notice.
"I'm so sorry, Ginny," muttered Hermione, "Harry-"
"I'm not with Harry anymore but it's not your fault. Don't be sorry," smiled Ginny, "anyway I can think of way better guys than Harry."
She glanced back at James and Hermione chuckled.
"You and Draco, huh?" asked Ginny in a whisper, "Bet he's a good kisser."
Hermione blushed and glanced behind her to see if Draco had heard but he was in a conversation with James. She turned back around and whispered.
"The best."
Ginny laughed and stopped as they reached their rooms.
"Draco and James, that's your room," she gestured to the one they were standing in front of, "Hermione, you'll have to share with me."
"Great," she said and was glad that their room was opposite the boys.
Hermione was about to say goodbye but Draco caught her hand and glanced at James.
"I need to talk to you alone," he muttered ad pulled her into his room, "See you, James."
He closed the door and turned around with a smile on his face.
"What is it?" asked Hermione.
"James likes Ginny. Just wanted them some personal time together," he shrugged and hugged Hermione, "that stupid Potter, how-"
"Draco, please don't," muttered Hermione, into his chest.
"I don't like the fact that he kissed my girlfriend," muttered Draco.
Hermione's heart flipped at the word girlfriend and she couldn't stop the smile that was on her lips.
"Girlfriend?" asked Hermione.
"Hopefully more than just my girlfriend one day..." whispered Draco.
"Hopefully," murmured Hermione.
Draco held her tighter and Hermione could feel that he was worried about her.
"I'll be fine, Draco. Please don't worry about me," said Hermione, pulling back.
"I know you'll be fine... I just-"
Draco was cut off as Hermione stood up and kissed him. He kissed her back, his hands snaked around her waist and she was pulled forward.
"That's one way to cut you off," muttered Hermione as she pulled her mouth away.
"I like that way," said Draco, chuckling.
