Chapter Ten

*Drip*

Hermione stirred slightly, moaning as she felt a pain shoot through her head.

*Drip*

Water fell on her face, waking her up.

*Drip*

She sat up and looked around, not recognising where she was and why her head felt like it was about to explode.

The water dripped on as she tried to remember. She was running... someone held onto her hand... Draco. She was running with Draco away from death eaters.

She could remember clearly. They had shot a spell at her and she could feel the pain, coursing through her body, making her drop into an unconcious slumber.

Someone must've hit her over the head as they bought her to wherever she was. She looked around, trying to recognise the place.

Some lights were lit but it was still dark. The kind of darkness that makes her want to sit in the corner so she can look at all the places at once. The kind of dark that makes Hermione feel threatened. The water had made a puddle by now on the cold stone floor. A mattress was shoved messily against the wall, with blood sprinkled on it. A small wooden table was next to the mattress.

It was horrible and made her want to be sick.

She searched her boots for her wand, since she had stowed it in her boots as she didn't have a pocket. The wand wasn't there, although she didn't expect it to be.

"Ah," a voice said, "Mudblood's awake. Took your time aswell."

The lock clinked open loudly and a man walked in. He had scruffy black hair and was wearing a long wizards robe. He wore a smirk on his face.

He gazed over Hermione before looking at the puddle of water beside her that had dripped from the ceiling.

"Should've fixed that." he muttered and pointed his wand to the ceiling then to the floor.

He didn't bother saying a spell to fix it. He just looked at Hermione who had gritted her teeth and was staring at his straight in the eye.

"Don't you look gorgeous when you're angry?" the man said, chuckling darkly, defining the scar next to his mouth, "the names Amadeus."

He extended a hand and Hermione rolled her eyes. Was he really as stupid as he looked? Did he really think she was going to shake his dirty hand? Amadeus chuckled and took his hand back.

"It's a good thing you didn't shake my hand. I would've needed to cut it off. You see, mudblood germs are something a simple wash wont get rid of." Amadeus snarled.

Hermione could feel the tears pricking her eyes but she fought them off. She will not cry in front of a death eater.

"Your little boyfriend, Draco, set you up. He didn't love you. The boys a good liar, you know?" Amadeus leaned forward, closer to her, "You must really be stupid to fall for a death eater."

Hermione growled at him even though he was right. She did fall for Draco. He was a liar. She must be so stupid! Why didn't she just avoid him? Or turn him in? How could she be so careless.

"Why did you kidnap me?" asked Hermione, speaking for the first time.

"Why do you think?" Amadeus muttered, "How will it look when everyone finds out we kidnapped one of the trio? It'll give us power beyond anything we've imagined. Everyone will be doing everything to get you back. One by one we'll take them down."

"You won't win this." Hermione scowled at him.

"No one will find you. We will win." Amadeus scowled back.

Hermione rolled her eyes and shook her head. Amadeus grabbed her face and made her look at him as he looked at her with utmost disgust on his face.

"Filthy little mudblood." he said and aimed a punch to her stomach.

Hermione wheezed as the breath was knocked out of her lungs. She tried to catch her breath back but the pain made her clench her stomach.

"You're going to be here for a while. Better get used to it." Amadeus stood up and walked over to the door, "If you need to do any bathroom business... pick a corner."

Hermione finally got her breath as the lock clicked shut. She breathed heavily for a few minutes until she was back to normal, except the pain that shot through her stomach.

Hermione let out a disgusted sound. Pick a corner? Yuck. These people were nothing less than savages. She hated them. She hated Draco.

She smoothed her stomach by rubbing it softly. It hurt so much. She tried to take her mind off of her head and stomach but found that she couldn't. Both were searing with pain.

Draco's POV

Draco watched as Amadeus came out of the rubbing his hand. Draco narrowed his eyes as he saw him talk with Narcissa, who was holding a tray of food.

"Take this down to the girl, Amadeus." Narcissa said, tryingto hand him the tray.

"Why are you giving her food? Filthy mudblood doesn't deserve it." Amadeus stretched out his hand.

"She needs to eat. May I remind you that you are keeping her in my house, Amadeus. I have a right to feed the probably starving girl." Narcissa frowned at him, "So you will go down there and give her this food."

"Narcissa. She's a mudblood. She does not deserve it." said Amadeus clearly before walking away.

Narcissa sighed, about to go back to the kitchen but Draco got up, catching up with his mother.

"Mother, let me go to her and give her the food." whispered Draco even though there was no one in the room, he didn't want anyone to overhear them.

"Draco, you know I can't do that." Narcissa said, stopping in her tracks and turning around, "You're too emotionally involved."

"Mother, please, I need to see her. Give me the key!" Draco raided his voice. He looked around and lowered it again, "I need to make sure she's okay."

"This isn't right, son. You need to forget her and marry someone. A pureblood. She's just-"

"Mother, I... I love her." Draco gulped, "Yes, I love her and I done want anyone else. All I want is one chance to make sure she's fine and... Please."

Draco took the tray from his mother and held his hand out for the key. His mother sighed and after a few minutes of hesitation she handed him the key. Draco smiled.

"Thanks, mother." he whispered.

"Don't do anything that'll shame us, Draco." Narcissa said, stroking his hair, "and remember, I love you."

"Love you too." Draco nodded and walked off.

Looking left and right, making sure no one was around, he went downstairs and into the basement. He stopped as his eyes landed on the girl. Hermione Granger.

She was breathing heavily and staring down at her stomach, rubbing it. Her hair was quite dirty as she had probably been thrown on the ground. Draco stared at her for a few minutes. She stood up and breathed, wincing in pain.

Draco coughed to let her know that he was there. Her eyes darted up to him and he inmediately looked down, focusing on getting the door open. The lock clicked loudly and he walked in closing the door behind him, aware of the eyes that were watching his every move.

"I bought you some-" started Draco, setting the tray down on a small table.

"Why?" whispered Hermione, walking up to him as he placed the tray down. She looked up at him and noticed that he was only slightly taller than me, "Why did you set me up for this?"

"Hermione, you have-"

"Don't you say my name. Why don't you call me a filthy little mudblood like you usually do?!" Hermione whispered angrily, she would shout but that would probably make her stomach hurt more.

"You know... I... I had to do this for my family. You have to understand my situation." Draco took her hand.

Hermione looked at their intertwined hands and scowled furiously, ripping her hand out of his. She didn't move away from him.

"There's nothing that will make me pity you," said Hermione scowling at him.

"I don't want pity. I just... I just need you to understand my situation. I need you to..." Draco stopped and rubbed his eyes wearily, "Why is it so hard to tell you what I want?!"

The last question seemed to be for himself only. Hermione rolled her eyes and opened her mouth to say something but Draco stopped her.

"Shhh, I know you hate me because I hate myself for letting this happen. Hermione, I need you to trust me and believe in me. Do you trust me?" Draco asked, gazing into her eyes.

Hermione looked deep into the pools of ice that were his eyes. She sighed and shook her head.

"I can't. I hate you, Malfoy. Get out of here and don't come back!" shouted Hermione, she clutched her stomach as pain shot through her.

"If you don't believe in me, I-"

"Get lost, Malfoy." Hermione turned around, "And take the food with you."

Draco ran a hand through his hair and looked at the ceiling helplessly. What was he supposed to do? He noticed that water was dripping from the ceiling and the mattress against the wall had dried blood on it.

He took his wand and stopped the water from dripping and cleaned the mattress. The least he could do was make sure she was comfortable. A voice in his head told him to let her go but he ignored it. He magicked some pillows for her and left the room when she didn't look at him.

"I'll be back." muttered Draco.

"Great." said Hermione sarcastically.

She didn't realise how hard that struck Draco's heart. He didn't like what he was but how in the world was he supposed to change himself? If he changed, his whole family would probably get sent to azkaban.

He locked the door and stared at the key. An idea struck in his mind. He wouldn't have to steal the key to get to her, he could just duplicate it. Taking his wand out, he muttered "Geminio" and a duplicated key appeared in his hand. He pocketed one key and held the other in his hand.

He looked back at Hermione. She was pacing the length of the room, rubbing her stomach.

He would get Amadeus back for hurting her. One way or another.
