There are four clans. Stormclan, Lavaclan, Treeclan, and Cloudclan.

Stormclan-
• They are brave fighters, and are very proud. They are prone to proving themselves through fights or challenges.
• They are heavy built, with almost natural muscle, even in the smallest kit.
•Apprentices become warriors through a fight against their mentor in front of the whole clan, if they fail, they continue apprenticeship..
• They have fur in mostly greys and blacks.

Lavaclan-
• They are usually ill-tempered cats, who are quick to anger.
• They have generally short fur, as it's pretty warm where they live.
•Apprentices become warriors through a private battle with the deputy or leader.

Treeclan-
• They're a more peaceful clan, and are generally calm and level-headed.
• They are very skilled climbers, and are named for their ability to run through the trees without falling (often).
•The apprentice test for them is a race through the trees against their mentor, all the way around the territory.
• Their pelts are normal browns and golds, so they can blend in the trees for hunting.

Cloudclan-
• They are the most peaceful, and tend to stay away from any battles, and unless absolutely necessary.
• They are very distant, even from each other, and tend to daydream.
• Their pelts are either white, or lighter versions of colors.
• Their warrior ceremony is simply a hunting challenge. If they can bring a certain amount of prey by a certain time, then they can move up.

Despite the occasional dispute, the clans got along and lived in relative peace. But one day, plants were observed to be dying. They wilted and turned black. Soon, prey in those areas were found dead and rotted. The darkness spread, but slowly. The leaders argued over the cause of this, until the medicine cats gathered, speaking of four great cats who will rise to defeat the darkness and save them all.
