Chapter 4
I couldn't just let her be, sitting there heartbroken. I quickly dash to the front of her house, the cold air hitting me. Taking a look around, wondering what I should do. I run up her snow piled porch, as I'm about to knock. Getting out of bed, I take a hot steamy shower, soothing my aching muscles.
And heart. As I got ready again, I decided I should take a walk. This was my favorite season after all, running downstairs, I open my house door. Finding the same boy in my imagination, he's real? We both stand stunned, his eyes widened, I notice he has a lazy eye.
It's like I've been hit with a brick, he was so beautiful. Finally being able to see him up close and personal, he was staring at me as well. Her hair was slightly wet, I'm guessing she had just finished showering. I couldn't believe it, this was actually happening. For months have I watched this beauty blossom, and now here she is, sad and in front of me.
"Hi."
She couldn't wipe the shock of her face, blinking as if I was some hallucination.
"You're real?"
I nod my head, scrunching my eyebrows in confusion.
"Why wouldn't I be?"
Looking her up and down, she seemed to be ready to go out.
"Plans I assume?"
She immediately shakes her head, offering me to enter her home. I gladly do, since being out in this snowy weather might just give me hypothermia. She sat on her staircase, running her hands through her hair.
"Are you ok-"
"You've been watching me this entire time?"
She cuts me off, her voice barely above a whisper. My heart was beating out of it's mind. I sigh, shoving my hands in my pockets.
"Frankly, yes."
No girl ever made me feel this way, it was all so new to me. My mother told me that one day that this would happen, don't tell me-
"Why?"
She raises her head, she was now distant. I frowned, don't be a stray Eve.
"I saw you a few months ago, you just got into a relationship with Tony."
Her eyes widened.
"How do you know his name?"
I scratch the back of my head.
"Well you practically told the entire neighborhood since you broke up with him earlier."
In a matter of seconds her distant expression, turned into a heartbroken one. Oh, Eve. I sit next to her, she flinches, afraid of me.
"Don't be afraid, I won't hurt you."
I say quietly, obviously she didn't trust me, so I kept my distance. Afraid that this may be my only chance at something with this christmas gift.
"Please, Eve. You deserve better."
Her eyes are in alarm, I take this chance to scoot closer. This time she doesn't move away.
"I know I do, but it just hurts. Let me mourn, let me hurt."
She croaks, my arms find their way around her in a protective instinct. Her broken sobs fill my ears, causing my own heart to break. It effected me profoundly, I knew what I was feeling..
I was falling in love with her.
"Please, don't cry. Please."
I feel my voice shake, I tried to find her eyes through her messy, brunette hair. Once I did, tears threatened to fall.
"Oh, Eve."
I cup her cheek, her cold hand touches my warm ones. She admires me through her sore orbs, I melt under her gaze. He was so beautiful, I hadn't really acknowledged how he truly looked. Not until now. Why did he show me so much sympathy?
How did he care so much?
"Why do you care for me?"
He looks away, letting go of my cheek. His muscular chest rises up and down.
"Please, let me kn-"
I push him a little further.
"I love you, Eve."
He bursts out, his voice loud and clear. His eyes were widened, couldn't say mine weren't. He was breathing heavily, shaking his head in frustration. This beautiful stranger... loved me?
"I know it's insane, believe me, I think so too."
He sighs, I didn't mean to pressure him into confessing. A slight guilt builds into my subconscious
"I watched you, for what seems like forever, Evelyn. Seeing you fall apart right in front of my very own eyes. When I first saw you it was as if I couldn't breathe, and you were air. I didn't know such a beautiful being could exist, and here you are."
He raises his hands towards me, making me smile at his compliments. I felt a bubbly feeling inside me, feelings were growing for this stranger. And a bad feeling that this would be the end.
"It broke my heart having to watch you cry, worry, and stress over someone who couldn't give you the love that you deserved. Especially the love you need for yourself."
No one knew about my insecurities, or anorexia. Or self harm. But he knew, because he was the one watching me behind closed doors. He probably knew me better than my best friend.
"I may be some delusional stranger to you, speaking nonsense after entering your house."
He distresses, with a slight humor.
"I don't know how it's possible, but loving you from a distance was an honor. Loving you at all is an honor."
As my mouth was open, no words left it. I was speechless. I didn't know how to respond, I didn't know clearly what I felt.
"Just promise me one thing,"
I nod gently, as he stands at my doorway. Please don't.
"Try. Try to love yourself, fight the inner bully inside you. Because always know that you are loved, inside and out."
In a shock, my eyes stung, why was I crying?
"You don't have to believe in perfection,"
I look down to my feet, feeling my stomach form into a knot.
"You just have to believe in me."
Goosebumps arise on my skin, from a cold breeze.
"Will you at least tell me who-"
I raise my head, finding an empty doorway, and tracks in the snow. Becoming alert, I run outside my house, looking to where the tracks were. No, no, no! The fresh snow began covering the tracks, I begin to lose it. I can't lose him.
Looking around me, trees piled with snow were the only thing living that I could find. Helplessly, I dropped to the snow, probably going to get sick. But I didn't care, I only cared about him. My parents were always too busy for me, always made excuses, forgot about my own birthday. But he didn't.
That distant stranger, whoever he was, believed in me. Loved me.. And that was more than what anyone could have ever done for me. Hiding behind a snow covered tree, she dropped to the ground, beginning to cry. My body ached to hold her, tell her everything would be alright. But I had to let her go.
She weeped, until she could no longer, while the sun set into the cold winter night.
"I was hidden, and you were my desire."
