Chapter 8
Llyr's POV
I held onto railing of the ship as I watched Elaina spend time with her family. They spent the whole day on this ship and I had to hide a few times when one of the crew members came to close or when her family dived into the sea. When her family dived into the sea I could've sworn I saw a look of longing on her face. Was it because of her sickness? I watched them closely for the whole day until nightfall.
A while after the sun had set, I saw the most beautiful thing in the world that starry night. The night sky was lighted up with more thousands of lights in different shapes and sizes. Everyone was staring at it, completely mesmerized. I was broke out of my stupor when my eye caught sight of Elaina who was climbing over the railing and aiming to jump, before I could scream a warning she was falling into the dark water.
My instincts took over as I dived in after her, I had to get to her. I knew from watching her the last few days that she could not walk properly, not to mention swim. I saw her struggling before all movements seized and I swam faster. I knew I had to get her to shore with out discovery so I grabbed her in my arms and swam as fast as my silver tail would allow me. Once I reached the dock where I saw her drawing so many times I quickly placed her soaking wet body on the dock. I pushed on her chest until she started to cough up water before falling back again. I gave her a long look before I heard shouting and when I turned around I saw five row boats. Probably people looking for her.
I don't know what came over me but I leaned over and kissed her temple before I dived into the water. I wonder what Primbroock would say about today's events.

Elaina's POV
The light streaming through my balcony caused me to open my eyes. I found myself in my room on my bed covered in heaps of blankets.
"Oh thank goodness you're awake," I heard my mom say as she rushed into the room crushing me in a hug.
She was followed by my dad and then my brothers. We had a group hug. When we pulled away I asked them what had happened.
"You fell over the railing. What were you thinking leaning so far over? If it wasn't for the current we would've never found you." When they said that the current saved me, I knew it was wrong. And I didn't lean over, I climbed over to get to that strange noice I heard.
The previous night's event played over in my head. I remember slipping into darkness when I felt someone grab me. After I spurted out water I could've sworn there was someone with me and I felt a soft touch on my temple. Was I going mad or was there really someone who saved me last night? And what was that noise that I heard that pulled me closer?
"I'm sorry." Was all I could say. My family was to relieved that I was safe and sound and they didn't pester me with to many questions. I spent the most of the day in my room, to tired from my almost drowning experience. My family came and went during the day, we mostly ate our meals in my room. This was hard for all of them, they thought they had lost me, but they didn't and I wanted to know why.
"Elaina?" My mother said snapping me out of my thoughts, she must have been trying to get my attention for a while.
"Sorry mother, what did you say?" I asked.
"I said that we are going to leave tomorrow. Tiberius sent a letter saying that your father has urgent matters to attend to." She said with a smile. My mother and Carling were alone in my room with me.
If we left tomorrow I might never truly find out what happened last night and the thought of being away from the ocean made me sad. I couldn't leave the ocean. I felt like I belonged here.
"Mother?"
"Yes, dear?"
"Is it possible for me to stay? I really enjoy it here and back at home I'm just another burden to be carried around."
"Don't you ever say you're a burden again! You are anything but a burden, you are my sweet daughter and not a burden. As for you staying here, that matter must first be discussed between your father and I." She said.
"Please mother, I want to stay here," I pleaded.
Right at that moment my father entered the room.
"You want to stay here?" He asked bewildered.
"Yes, Daddy. I like it here and I would love to stay." My father stared at me and the look in his eyes told me that he might not say yes, he might drag me home himself.
He shared a look with my mother and then Carling before turning his attention back to me.
"Very well, you can stay," he said with a small smile,"but there are going to be rules. Rule number one, you only walk around while Rhixton is there to help you and rule number two, you stay out of the ocean. I don't want a repeat of last night, is that clear?" He asked and I nodded eagerly. To excited about staying to say anything else.
After my parents and Carling left I was brought dinner by Ida herself.
She quickly placed the platter on my bedside table before grabbing me in a hug.
"I'm so grateful you're alright," she said earnestly and I hugged her back.
"Thank you," I said as she handed me my platter after breaking our hug.
"Rhixton was a mess when he found out about what happened. If he only was there in time."
"He wouldn't have been able to do anything. It was all my own fault. I leaned to far because of my curiosity." I lied. I didn't want them to worry about the noise I heard.
"Well you're safe now, and that is all that matters," she said as I ate my food while lost in thought.
"My lady?" Ida asked loudly pulling me from my memories. I shook my head to clear my thoughts before I looked up to her with a smile.
"Sorry, I was lost in thought," I explained.
"It's quite alright, I just wanted to know whether you were done with your food?" She asked and I nodded. She took the platter and bid me goodbye.
At that moment my door was yet again barged open. This time it was my two brothers and believe me they did not look too thrilled.
"You're staying?!" Eldrich asked.
"Ye-"
"No, I won't allow you to stay here, your place is not here, Laina. Your place is at home with us." Eldrich continued.
"Eldrich please understand," I tried to reason but he didn't want to listen.
"But Laina, who will help you? And what if you fall in the ocean again? You need to go home where we all know you are safe and sound." He said with finality. I gave Ethan a look, silently asking him to help me. He gave me a gentle smile before he turned towards Eldrich.
"Eldrich, do you remember Mum's story?" Ethan asked.
Eldrich gave him a perplexed look before nodding.
"Mum was also locked up for her own safety and look what happened, at the end of the day she was thrown into a strange place where she met Dad. Eldrich it is time to let Elaina experience things on her own," Ethan said as he placed a comforting hand on his shoulder. Eldrich let out a long sigh before he walked to my bed and scooped me into a bear hug.
"Please just be safe, Laina. And know I'm going to check on you ever so often," Eldrich said as he hugged me tight.
I hugged him back and Ethan joined our family hug. I didn't know what I did to deserve such amazing brothers but I was extremely grateful for them. They were the best part of my life.

Llyr's POV
Last night I was too tired and hungry to visit Primbroock so I decided to visit him before I went back to spy on Elaina. When I arrived at the record room he called me to his office. Once in the safety of his office I conveyed the night's events to him.
"So you're telling me that a girl who can't even walk properly decided to jump over a railing?" He asked to clarify.
"Yes, it's quite bizarre. But I heard something to, a small singing noise," I said as I only now recalled the weird sound I heard. I was to occupied with Elaina to notice earlier.
"Sirens," Primbroock said as he sat back and thought deeply.
"Sirens?" I questioned.
"Yes. Llyr I need you to befriend the girl as soon as possible," he said.
"Why?"
"Because I believe she might be in danger and you should be there to protect her," he said. I wanted to ask more but he said that I had to get to her as quick as possible and I left it there.
