Chapter 6

Llyr's POV

I woke the next morning as the dream of the night still flashed through my head.

I was deep in thought about something staring ahead of me at nothing.

"What's wrong?" I heard the soft voice of the human girl ask.

My head shot up and when I saw her, I gave her a dashing smile.

"Nothing, my love. I'm just glad you're here," I said before I walked over and placed a kiss on her brow.

Something deep inside me told me that this girl meant more than I realised.

I needed answers and I knew just the person who might be able to help me. I skipped breakfast because I was to much in a hurry to get to the person that might be able to help me.

I made my way to the record room where all the records of our history is kept. The record-keeper, Primbroock Seahorse, was a close friend to my mother and he knew about her fascination she had with humans. He knew more about humans than most merfolk were allowed to know and he would be able to tell me what my dreams could possibly mean.

The record room was closed of by two large shells that I pushed open to enter, I looked around as I closed the shell doors behind me and realised no-one was hear. I decided to search around on my own a bit until Primbroock returned from wherever he went. I scanned through the shells looking for something that could help me.

"Can I help you?" A voice asked from behind me and I spun around quickly. It was Primbroock.

"Primbroock," I said as I placed a hand over my heart, "you almost gave me an heart attack."

"Sorry, my prince. Now to what do I owe the pleasure? I haven't seen you in a while. To important now to visit an old friend?" He asked, he raised a grey brow while his long grey beard being ruffled by the current.

"Nothing like that, just a demanding father," I said with a sigh as I dragged a hand through my hair.

"You can say that again. But why are you here?" He asked.

"I need help with something, is there somewhere we can talk privately?" I asked.

He nodded his head before he turned around and swam away, I followed close behind until we were at the back of the record room, he opened a shell door for me and I swam inside. Once we were both inside he closed the door behind him.

There were big clamp shells on both sides of a big rock which was littered with horns and smaller shells, obviously his desk. He indicated to the shell on the other side of the desk and I took a seat. He sat down across from me before he gave me a long hard stare.

"So what's got your tail in a twist?" He asked.

"Well, it all started two nights ago when I started having dreams..." I told him about the dreams and then seeing the human girl at the ocean palace. Once I was done I asked him what it could possible mean and he sank back while tapping his chin.

"It's quite extraordinary. I've never heard anything like it," he said.

"What do you think I should do?" I asked.

"You should get closer to the human girl, get to know who she is, do not engage until you are certain you are not going to be harmed," he said.

"I can't, my father won't let me off of my duties, he will know something is going on," I said.

"Leave your father to me Llyr, right now you must find out who this girl is and why you are having dreams of her," he said and I nodded in agreement.

Right at that moment my father's loud boisterous voice boomed through the cavern walls.

"Primbroock!" He shouted and both Primbroock and I made our way outside to the entrance. My father's intimidating figure could be seen from afar.

"You called, your highness?" Primbroock said as we came to a stop in front of my father.

"I was looking for Llyr, but it seems he was here all along," my father said as he gave me a once over.

"Yes, sire. I've been meaning to ask you something," Primbroock said, each word laced with respect and diplomacy.

"And that is?" My father asked.

"If I could borrow the prince for a while, you see I'm an old mer and this tail can't swim so well as it used to. So I need Llyr to help me with some research," he started to explain but my father stopped him.

"Primbroock, my son is the future king and he has duties to attend to, there is no time for playing about," my father said in his usual gruff voice.

"On the contrary my king, this research would help him explore the ocean and get a better glimpse of his future kingdom," Primbroock said and I could see the wheels in my father's head turning.

"And how long will this *research* take?" My father asked.

"A while, but I promise it would definitely be worthy of the prince's time," Primbroock said with an easy smile.

My father gave us a calculating look before he nodded,"well, if it is for the good of the kingdom then there is no point in disagreeing."

"Then it's sorted, he will start tomorrow immediately," Primbroock said and my father nodded before he left. Once we alone in his cavern office once more I thanked him.

"Thank you, Primbroock," I said.

"You're welcome my prince, but you need to use this time wisely. The quicker we can discover why you're getting these dreams the better," he said and I agreed.

Unknown's POV

My tail felt weird as I used it to swim faster to my mother's cave. It's been a while since I've swam but I enjoyed the feeling. The cavern was hidden deep in a coral reef and only my sister, mother and I knew about it's location.

Once I've entered I found my mother sprawled on a rock. Once she saw me she sat uptight before gasping and swimming towards me.

"Oh darling," she said as she grabbed me in a hug.

"Hello Mom," I said as I hugged her tightly.

"So did you find what we were looking for?" She asked as she pulled away from me and called me closer to the rock that was used as a seat.

"Yes, she's actually here," I said with an excited grin.

"How?"

"Her family decided to have a little holiday at the beach, I found her at a ball. You should've seen her, she is so weak and it would be easy to kill her," I said.

"Are you sure it is her?" My mother asked.

"Yes, the legend says:
Tormented by suffering all her life
She was chosen to stop the knife
To stop a war between both worlds
For the good of all.
The weak becomes strong
To stop all wrong.
Who could suffer more than a girl whose own muscles refused to do her bidding? And I managed to find out that her grandmother and mother also has legends about them," I explained.

"Then it must be her, there is no other way to explain it," my mother said.

"What I thought exactly," I said with a low chuckle. I was proud of the work I did.

"You outdid yourself, my son," my mother praised and I nodded in agreement.

"I must say I did learn from the best," I said with a wink.

"Yes you did," she laughed.

"So what are you planning on doing with her?" My mother asked.

"Well, let's just say I heard a little birdie telling me about an upcoming voyage the family is going to undertake," I said as my grin grew larger.

"Oh my sneaky boy," she said and we laughed together. Now all I had to do was to wait for the ship to set sail so that my plan van be taken into effect.
