6: Awaken to Madness
Power awakens, humming around me. I peel open my weighted eyelids to strobing lights. Heavy footsteps, two pairs, stepping quickly away before my eyes adjust to the brightness and can make out the figures.
Their voices are faint as they leave the room and the lights dim.
Attempting to sit up, I only make it onto my elbows before I realize I'm restrained on the Jedi ship. I sigh, looking around for any way out of this.
If I'm restrained, I can only assume whatever waits at the end of this journey is in response to me defending Qimir... but Osha did the same when she called out to Sol, stopping him... Maybe it's cause I reacted in such a manner.
I don't regret anything.
I look around and hear the pitter patter of incoming light feet. I lay down on the medbay bed, deciding it's best to pretend sleep. The steps approach, and I recognize the quicken breath of Bazil and his curious nose.
I sense his presence directly at my side, then his clawed paws working on a cuff.
A light click and I feel the cuffs depressurize against my wrists with ease as the lock mechanisms release. I sneak a peek as he scurries around to confirm the other cuff has released as well. He looks up to me and brings a silent claw to his mouth. "Shhh." He blows out and pats my arm.
A silent warning to stay down and not move.
A single pair of footsteps approach and Bazil leaves me as I close my eyes to resume the act.
Sol sighs and I hear the locks activate on another neighboring bed. I force my curiosity to subside at who else would be locked in beside me... Qimir, if they captured him... Maybe Osha for stopping him as well... That'd make the most sense, but where do her loyalties lie?
As far as I can tell, her old Jedi Master Sol.
"I have no intention of harming you, Mae." Sol speaks.
"Then let me go." Mae replies. Honestly I had forgotten she was even on that planet.
"I will." I can hear Sol shift to his feet and slowly cross the room closer towards us. "Believe me... We have a lot to do. We need to find your Master."
He escaped, I hold my breath hoping Sol isn't focused on me.
"Why did you restrain her? Isn't she your pupil?" Mae questions.
"No, her master died at the hand of yours." Master Dawntuli is dead... Qimir killed her... My emotions want to scream, but I squeeze my lips tight together and shove my emotions as far down as I can.
"Why restrain her?"
"A wild card is best kept in your own hand secretly."
"Is that why you stole Osha? You were afraid of what our Mother had taught us?"
"We need to save Osha." Sol counters, changing the conversation. "But first, you and I are going to talk. I've had 16 years to think about what I would say to you if I ever got the opportunity." His boots echo as they come to a halt. "So you're going to listen." His clouded force aura swirls around him and he's hard to read.
The ship lunges to a stop , "where are we?" Mae's voice breaks the dark aura of Sol's thoughts.
"Brendok." He steps away.
"Why?"
"I will contact Master Vernestra, the Jedi will meet us here."
"Why?" Mae questions once more.
"There is a vergence on this planet. Now that you and Osha are both alive, I can prove it."
"Prove it? Prove what?" Mae scoffs. "That murdering our mother was justified?"
A moment of silence is followed by the sound of Sol's boots. "What happened to you, to your coven was an accident."
He doesn't deny murdering their mother though... does Osha know?
"An accident? If it was an accident, then why didn't you tell Osha?" She raises her voice. "Why did you lie to her?" I can't contain my curiosity anymore, I need to see this unfold before me. I open my eyes and turn to see him with his back to her. "Why did you blame it on me?"
Sol turns pointing an accusing finger at her. "You started that fire. You locked everyone in."
"Because the Jedi invaded our home!" She interrupts and I notice a PIP droid working feverishly at her restraint.
I may have been sent in to arrest her, but that wasn't my goal. That was the Jedi's goal. The same Jedi who killed their mother, the same who lied to Osha. The Jedi Order has silenced me and refused to accept any accountability on anything that doesn't add up, refusing to answer for their silent crimes. Sol needs to answer for his crimes.
"Everyone in there died because of the four of you!" Her voice shakes with rage and grief.
"It was right for us to intervene." Sol defends himself. "My biggest regret is that I wasn't able to save you both... You and Osha are not twins. You're not even sisters." Sol stalks over to her, leaning over. "You're-"
Mae delivers an electric shock to Sol, sitting up and pushing the PIP's head further into his chest as he groans in pain.
I jump to my feet, force pulling my saber and robe from a nearby ledge. "Follow me." I call out to Mae as I slide pass her leading the way.
I really hope she follows me with the intent of an unspoken alliance, because she's the best I've got right now and I'm sure I'm the same for her.
I run down the corridor towards the escape ship and lift the handle just before it, hissing the door open with a puff of foggy oxygen blasting inside it.
I head first into the ship, taking the pilot's seat with Mae hot on my heels, understanding what I'm doing. We move in unspoken unison as she steps in and smacks the close button behind her. "See you in hell, Jedi."
The door wizzes shut as I hear Sol yell, "no!"
"We're clear," She attaches the PIP droid in the front, "get us to the surface, I know a place."
I slide a helmet on my head and pass the spare to her. "Hang on." I press a few buttons, before pulling a lever dropping us from the main ship into the starry filled sky below. The engines ignite to life, launching us forward at my command. "I wish this thing had a hyperdrive." I push forward on the accelerator.
"Head into the asteroid field, he's too big to follow us in there."
I angle the escape ship down, slightly pulling back on the accelerator, gracefully sliding in-between the asteroids to an opening between the two layers of heavier rocks.
"I think he's crazy enough unfortunately." I tell her as pieces of debris ricochet off the windshield and I push the accelerator, full force again. An alarm beeps alerting me of his presence quickly pursuing us, closing the distance.
"We escaped just to die." Mae huffs as she takes a seat behind me.
"I'm trying." I keep my hand pushed on the accelerator. Suddenly another alarm alerts me of the oncoming ship now out of control behind us. "Hang on tight!" I let go of the accelerator to fumble the strap dangling at my chin closed. All the system alarms ring out in unison, as our ship joins in the mess Sol has created as we are flung, tumbling through the field uncontrolled until we break through the asteroids. "Brace yourselves." I yank back on the accelerator, slowing us to a more stable downfall as we fall victim to the planet, Brendok's gravitational pull taking control of our fall. "We're going to crash land." I gain control over the ship direction, but not speed. "Here we go." I give a final warning as the clouds break apart revealing the ground, closer than comfort would ever allow at this speed.
A/N: Well the canon Acolyte is starting to slip away lol I hope you enjoy the changes I've made and little differences here and there. I spent days analyzing episodes for where I would have Y/N standing or how they could be there and contribute to scenes without making huge changes to the canon timeline.
