A talk with Baldr

It's been hours since what had happen to hiccup but he soon woke up and rub his head, "oh dang what had happened?"

Hiccup had no memory as being knocked out temporary made him to forgot what he did.

When he got up and stretched it only took a couple of seconds but then everything came back to him.

"Wait a minute! How the heck did I got back to my hut?" Hiccup ask himself as he ran outside and was going to talk to hel about what he had remember.

He wasn't just about to leave her alone until... Then again hiccup just stop there and just thought what's the point, there was nothing she could do to fix this, hel would never allow hiccup to leave and if she did, all that hiccup would become a wandering spirit in midgard and would never get the chance to see his mother in Valhalla.

Then again it was impossible to return to midgard, Once entered into helheim gate you can never leave.

Hiccup knew that was too good to be true. And it was something he wish it wasn't.

He had no doubt even the other Vikings that care about him or maybe they don't anymore like gubber probably have a new apprentice and is over him now.

Astrid will definitely die as a warrior along with many of the other Vikings who witness him getting the blood eagle.

A lot of them will certainly go to valhalla despite all the horrible things they did. They will be rewarded in the afterlife with such greatness.

He fall onto his knees and start crying, toothless ran over and lick him, hiccup took notice of toothless being next to his side comforting him.

Now remembering what happened to him in midgard, it made hiccup cry even more and wrap his arms around toothless, "oh toothless!"

Toothless wrap his wings around hiccup as he continued to cry.

Not even realizing that someone else was coming up the hill, "excuse me?"

Hiccup and toothless look over and saw the man was a god and he was none other than the most beloved of them all, Baldr.

"I want to apologize for knocking you out cold, with how angry you were getting, I couldn't let you turn into a corrupted vengeful spirit, but I am still sorry for happened to you and Your dragon friend here," Baldr said as hiccup wipe his tears away.

"It's all right it's not your fault, I was my idiot for believing the Vikings could change, I could never imagine though my own father was willing to blo...?" Hiccup mouth was quickly covered by Baldr.

"Hiccup you got to be careful, you can't just let anyone know about that, it's dangerous," Baldr said as he let go and took a step back.

"Why though? Honestly I cannot be the only one who got the...?" Baldr stop himself this time as he wasn't going to try to make the god angry by almost saying the word, "well you know I mean but why can't I say it?"

Baldr turn around to make sure no one was looking or close by and then he turned his head back to face the lad and his dragon.

"Anyone who comes to helheim, can easily be treated differently depending on what they were in their life and how do they got here, dying from old age is one thing as someone very old and weak that cannot fight, those who die from sickness who are ill and poor health will never recover and be the warrior they need to be for Odin, but those who are a traitor and blasphemy are one of the worst to be in helheim as they deserve no love or peace in death in the eyes the of others," Baldr explain.

Hiccup look down, "I basically committed treason against all the gods and yet you and hel treat me so nice, why though?"

"Well actually you never committed treason towards any of us, you were just a simple child, Well, technically close to being a man. Since you were 15 and it's 18 when you were fully considered but still you just wanted peace and forgiveness, I was actually proud of you standing up for the dragons, it's not actually blasphemy to be friends with a dragon but in the Vikings with the war they made that part of their religion, even though it has nothing to do with us," Baldr explain but it only got hiccup angry.

"So what you are telling me is I was blood eagle for nothing? I was given the blood eagle because they cannot accept that I was different and i did not accept their beliefs?" Hiccup ask as tears came down his eyes again as he couldn't believe it, he had so much to live for and it was taken away just because the Vikings couldn't agree with him.

"Sadly yes, many humans have that belief where if you do not agree then you choose death because you do not believe in what they do," Baldr said as he never felt like it was right what mortals were doing but he couldn't change all their minds they had to understand that themselves.

"Everyone who comes to helheim is basically gets the rank and status of how they die and even who they were in their life, it was especially for what happened to Kalda, back then everyone was allowed to know what happened when a newcomer comes in, Kalda was treated very poorly and couldn't accept it and it was actually because of him, hel decided to change up the laws and to not make it publicly known about anyone's cause of death," Baldr explain and that just made hiccup look down and feel bad for kalda, he remember hearing his story and it was honestly very depressing and sad to hear.

"He never asked for any of this and I never did either, how can we all get sent to helheim just because we were wrong and everything by others or died from sickness or illness? To always be trap forever an eternal frozen underworld?" Hiccup ask as he wanted to know.

"Despite it may be a place of dishonor and to those who died from old age and sickness, it's not all that bad, helheim can be a beautiful place, if you let it, hel now these days really do try to help others, she honestly took pity off of you, even gave you very special treatment when you first got here, allowing your dragon friend to eat at Great Hall," Baldr explain as hiccup did felt a bit better.

"She was definitely nice but I didn't understand how come she was so calm when I had regained my memories... Now that I think about it I even slap her hand, I would definitely be punished for that," hiccup now realizing and wondering what will happen to him?

"Hiccup, she's not going to punish you for getting upset after you regain your memories," Baldr started, "we have been around for a very long time and even longer than most humans have been around, "we understand how humans can be and everything, she's not going to get mad or anything about what you did easily."

"But why would she be so calm? How come she was so calm that she know how I died and everything? how painful it was? It almost look like she didn't care what happened to me," hiccup said as tears were still coming down and Baldr wipe them away.

"Look at me hiccup," hiccup look at Baldr, "it's not that she doesn't care but rather she has seen death in every single way, from peaceful to the most gruesome, it doesn't phase her anymore to what happens to anyone, I mean she's not called the goddess of death for nothing, it may be hard to understand but she had been forced to watch how everyone died in every way possible, she had to learn to accept it as when she was a very young goddess it traumatized her but now it doesn't, for how long she's been able to see it, always remember that," Baldr explain to hiccup, hiccup nodded And now start to understand the reason why but it still hurt to know what happened to him.

"I... I understand now," hiccup said as bow his head.

After that conversation Baldr left him alone to think about it.

Later on

Hel had came, "hiccup, we need to talk."

Hiccup bow and put his face into the snow, "please forgive me for slapping you on the hand!"

Hel raise him up, "hiccup I'm not going to be mad at some child that slap on me on the hand, believe me you would have to do a lot worse than something like that to make me mad."

"Still it was wrong for me to do, I'm sorry ruler of helheim," hiccup said as she shook her head.

"No don't be, it's understandable how anyone can react that way after finding out the painful truth of how they died, although I'm pretty sure Baldr had talked to you earlier about that," hel said as hiccup look at her with wide eyes but then relax.

"He told you? Didnt he?" Hiccup ask her.

"No but I knew he was going to, is there anything you want to ask of me about what he said though?" Hel ask him.

Hiccup thought about it and then nodded, "yes, how do you do it? He told me it used to traumatize you seeing death and all the ways but as time got on you got used to it, how is that possible?"

Hel sign, "truth is I never got used to it but I came to accept everyone can't never escape from death, it's something that we all have to learn to accept and it's something we have to because we can never escape from it, that's what's Odin's wife once said to me."

"You met Odin wife before?" Hiccup ask and the goddess of death herself nodded.

"I was raised back in Valhalla but was always seen as an outcast, it really wasn't easy but it's something I don't talk about it's my own personal part of my life I keep a secret, but I will tell you this, I know how you might feel about never getting a chance to see your mother again, I know how that is, Odin only believe those who have truly were warriors deserve everything while everyone else who were not seen worthy had no place for Paradise, but that's not true, even though helheim is not what you expect for eternal life, it can be a good place if you allow it to be and the people that you surround yourself with, and I already know you have met a few new friends, but anyway I have to go hiccup, someone is at the gate," hel said as they heard the sounds of wolves howling for a newcomer.

Hiccup saw the goddess of death vanish and he look back in toothless and head back inside just to think about everything.
