Astrid awoke in a bed in an unfamiliar hut. Every inch of her body screamed at her from the pain. She started to cry. "Where am I?" Her voice screamed at her in her head. "What happened?!" Her breath became quick and uneven until she was practically hyperventilating.
"You're ok. You're ok." She heard Hiccup's voice say. Then his face appeared as her vision went into focus.
Hiccup smiled at her and had tears in his eyes. "Just hold my hand. Everything's gonna be alright milady. I'm right here."
Hiccup took Astrid's hands into his and she squeezed them tightly. Hiccup chuckled and a couple tears slid down his cheeks. "Gods Astrid I've been so worried about you. I love you so much."
She smiled at him weakly. She opened her mouth to say something but Hiccup quickly put his hand over her mouth. "Don't try to talk yet milady. You're throat got pretty torn up but it'll heal in a couple of days." He then removed his hand. Astrid gave him a pouty face.
"I know babe. It sucks."
*Time skip of five days*
Astrid was getting better but she still had a long way to go. Most of her cuts had healed up. Her shoulder's swelling had gone down quite a bit. But her broken leg was still in very bad shape.
Hiccup was in a chair next to her bed in the hospital building. He slept there each and every night with Toothless and Stormfly next to him.
Astrid woke up and for the first time since the crash, her throat didn't hurt at all.
"H-Hiccup?" Her voice was scratchy and gravelly but she was talking!
Hiccup startled awake. He could have swore he heard Astrid talking. He sat up and yawned.
"Hiccup? What happened to me?"
This startled Hiccup so much that he fell out of his chair. Toothless grunted, annoyed that he had been woken up so early.
"Astrid you're talking!" Hiccup exclaimed as he jumped up from the floor.
Astrid smiled at him. "Yea, I guess I am."
Hiccup leaned over and kissed her. Astrid wrapped her bruised arms around his neck and pulled him into her.
When they finally broke apart they were both panting. Hiccup held Astrid's cheek and kissed her again. "I've been dying to hear your beautiful voice Astrid."
Astrid chuckled and it hurt a little bit, but she didn't care. "My voice sounds like a dying gronkle right now Hiccup."
Hiccup sat down on the edge of the bed. "But it's still your voice."
"Hiccup what happened to me?"
Hiccup's smile disappeared and he looked worried. "Well uh... well we aren't sure about the whole story. But here's what we know. When the gang and I found you, you were dangling upside down by your foot in between two branches in a giant tree. Stormfly was stuck in the tree too. There was a Monstrous Nightmare clawing at you. We drove it away, then we got you out of the tree. That's when Gothi and my mom arrived. Gothi started cleaning your wounds right away, but you stopped breathing and your heart stopped. But Gothi revived you. Then she finished bandaging you up and we brought you home."
Astrid's mouth hung open. "I.. I died?"
   "In a way. But you're ok now."
   "I remember what happened before that."
   So Astrid told Hiccup how she and Stormfly has ended up in the tree.
   "I just don't get why a Monstrous nightmare would act like that." Hiccup said when she was finished.
   "I don't know Hiccup." Astrid replied. She yawned and started to drift off to sleep.
   Even after she was asleep, Hiccup stared at her. He was so relieved that she was ok.
