Hiccup's POV

I woke up to the loud beeping of my alarm. Oh great. It's the first day of school. I was starting my sophmore year at Glendale High. I'm really not excited every girl in the school is always gawking over me and trying to ask me out like im Senpai or something. It's disgusting. I at least have my two best friends Jack and Eugene, but he goes by his middle name, which is Flynn. Weird, I know, but he's a popular guy and his name is Eugene? I can see why he wants to hide that.

"Hiccup get up or you're going to be late!" I heard dad shout from downstairs. I've lived with my dad my whole life since my mom went missing when I was just a baby. "HICCUP!"

"Okay I'm coming dad geez!" I shouted and rolled out of bed. I put on a pair on black jeans, a green t-shirt and my black converse. I then walked downstairs still half asleep.

"Nice to see you actually awake. I thought you wouldn't be able to get up this early." Dad said as I sat on the kitchen counter and ate cereal. Toothless came over and sniffed my bowl.

"Toothless your food is over there." I said and pointed to the plate of fish across the counter. Toothless is my little pet NIght Fury that sits on my shoulder anywhere I go. The school has given up on trying to tell me to leave him at home because he just follows me. I rescued him from an alley in the middle of the night. He was missing one of his tail fins so he can't fly anymore.

"Oh you better go the bus is going to be here soon." Dad said.

"Alright I'll see you later dad. Come on Toothless." I said and grabbed my backpack. I swun it over my shoulder then put Toothless on my other shoulder, then walked out of the house.

I got to the bus stop and waited. I decided to listen to some music, so I put in one of my earbuds. After about 1 minute, the bus rolled up. I stepped on the bus and everyone looked at me. All the girls started touching up their make up and fixing their hair. Ugh of course. I walked to the back where I saw Jack sitting with his earbuds in. Once I got over to him I sat down extra hard so the force would make him jump.

"AH! oh Hiccup dude seriously you can't do that to me scared me half to death." He said and packed away his phone and earbuds.

"Okay you should know me better then that we've been friends all our lives."

"So true. Hey we hanging out after school today?" He asked.

"Since when do you ask to hang out 90% of the time you just show up at my house and start eating my food."

"Okay I'll just walk home with you then." The bus stopped and let more people on. One of those people was Flynn.

"Flynn!" Jack and I said cheerfully.

"Sup guys ready to be stared at by girls all day?" He asked as he sat down. He's always liked the attention from girls, but me and Jack, not so much.

"I do not get how you like it so much. Doesn't it get annoying to you?" Jack asked.

"Nah because if I need a last minute date for something, I've got ladies lining up." He said and leanded back, resting his feet on the top of the seat in front of us.

"That's wrong dude." I said.

"Yep and see how much I care." He said sarcastiaclly.

Astrid's POV

I walked up to the main doors of Glendale High, the high school I would be stuck at for 3 more years. I started walking when the bus pulled up. I waited for my friends Merida and Rapunzel since I'm the only one that walkes to school out of the three of us.

"Hey Astrid!" Punzie said cheerfully. Everyone just calls her Punzie because Rapunzel is kind of a mouthful.

"Hey Punzie! Hey Merida!" I responded as the both reached where I was.

"Here we go guys another year at this dump." Merida said with a gloomy tone to her heavy scotish accent. She had just moved from Scotland before freshman year, so she still had a thick accent.

"It's not that bad!" Punzie said.

"You only say that because you like everything." Merida sassed and crossed her arms.

"Merida chill." I said. She sighed. "Lets just go inside and get our schedules so we can get the day over with."

We walked inside and lined up for our schedules. We had to go in alphabetical order so I was separated from Punzie and Merida. I was behind some kid with the last name of Haddock. Oh wait that's the mayor's kid. I didn't mind being behind him since he kind of keeps to himself. I looked at my shoes and something caught my eye. This Haddock kid is missing a foot. Oh great my curiousity peaked again. I tapped his shoulder. He turned around and smiled a small grin.

"Hi sorry to bother you, but what happened to your foot?" I asked. He looked down at the prostetic. It's possibly the weirdest prostetic foot I've ever seen, It doesn't have one of those weird plastic feet. It's just metal.

"Ah the leg, I've never understood people's fascination with it." He said calmly.

"You don't have to explain if you don't want to."

"Nah it's fine. I got an infection in my foot when i was 15, so the doctors had to amputate it before the infection spread into my bloodstream, making its way to my heart and lungs, and soon enough killing me." He said simply. Wow.

"That sounds awful." I stated with sympathy.

"Oh it's fine I would rather be living with one foot then have a deadly infection in my blood." He said. "I'm Hiccup."

"Astrid." I said. He smiled.

"I like that name."

"Thanks."

"Yo Hiccup who's the bae!" I heard someone shout from a little bit ahead of the line.

"Shut it Jack or I'll send Toothless after you!" He shouted back.

"May I ask who Toothless is?" I asked.

"Oh yeah he's my pet dragon." He said and whisteld. A small black dragon came running to his feet.

"Oh he's so cute! I have a deadly nadder at home named Stormfly." I said and scratched the dragons chin. "What kind is he?"

"I believe he's the last night fury. I rescued him from an alley." He explained.

"What kind of tricks can he do?"

"Uh, he can run, catch fish, jump pretty high, and he can sorta climb."

"No flying tricks?" I asked.

"He can't fly. When I rescued him he was missing one of his tail fins." He said sadly and showed me the dragons tail. It was missing its left tail fin. Just like Hiccup is missing his left leg.

"Do you know how it happened?"

"No I just found him in a net."

"That' terrible. Who would do something like that?"

"I don't know but whoever it was has no concience."

"NEXT!" The woman shouted. Hiccup stepped up and grabbed his schedule. He went over to 2 guys. One had pure white hair while the other had brown hair. They compared schedules and started talking. I got my schedule and looked it over.

1st period- math

2nd period- english

3rd period- P.E.

4th period: history

5th period: biology

6th period: study hall

Seriously they put me in study hall? Eh whatever. Can't be that bad.

"Hey let me see your schedule." Punzie said and compared hers to mine. "We have english, math and biology together. And you have P.E. with Merida." She said and handed me my schedule. I folded it up and put it in the pocket of my shorts.

"We saw you talking to Hiccup Haddock." Merida said.

"How did you even start a conversation with him? He's so popular." Punzie said.

"All the girls gave you death glares. Good way to start the year." I ignored her.

"Guys not all popular guys are bad he was super nice and he has a Night Fury." I said.

"And only one foot." Merida said. Both Merida and Punzie burst into laughter. I didn't though beacuse I knew the story.

"Guys come on it isn't funny."

"You can't tell me you don't find it slightly amusing that he has one foot?" Merida said bewtween giggle fits.

"No I don't because I know the story behind the missing foot and it really isn't pleasant. I'll see you guys later I'm going to math." I said and walked away.

"Hold on I have math with you!" Punzie shouted and ran to catch up with me. "So what is the story of the foot?"

"There was an infection in his foot and the doctors had to stop it from spreading into his blood and killing him. The only way to do that was get rid of the foot."

"Oh. Well now I feel bad for laughing at him. He could have died." She said sadly.

"Just don't laugh about it again."

"I won't. Does he laugh about it though?"

"Well he seems to be able to explain it easily. I'm sure he's been asked about it a lot though."

"Weird." She said as the bell rang. We opened the door to math and sat down in seats next to each other. People filed in and plopped into seats, then our teacher walked in.

"Good morning class my name is Mr. Logan and I'll be your math teacher this year." He said and wrote his name with a black marker on the whiteboard. Everyone slouched in their seats. "Look I know this isn't everyones favorite subject but you can at least sit up." Everyone straightened their backs. "Thank you."

"Well at least the teacher doesn't seem strict." Punzie whispered to me.

"Yeah he seems pretty nice. Let's just hope he doesn't change all of the sudden in the middle of the year." I whispered back.

"Okay it will be free seating unless there is too much talking and too many distractions. Now here is a course policy, or the rules of my classroom, that I need you to read tonight. It has the grading scale and the policies I have here." I looked at the paper he had just finished handing out. It only had about 3 rules, no texting, no phones unless given direct permission or it's an emergency, and no talking while the teacher is talking. Pretty simple rules. I could get used to them. When the bell rang we all grabbed our backpacks and ran out the door.

"You have english next right?" Punzie asked as she appeared next to me.

"Yeah I'm assuming you do to?"

"Yes but with who?"

"I have Wilkenson. You?" I asked.

"Wilkenson!" She exclaimed happily and jumped for joy.

"Easy punzie, let's go to class before we're late." I said.

Once we walked into the classroom, we chose some seats in the middle of the room. We watched people walk in and sit with their friends and carry on conversations about how their summer was and how much of a bummer it is to be here. Punzie and I just faced forward but still talked about what this class might end up being like. We were interrupted when the last 3 people walked into the class and sat a few rows behind us. It was Hiccup and those 2 other guys we saw today.

"Did you see that brown haired guy?" Punzie whispered to me.

"Hiccup or the other one?"

"The other one." She said.

"Yeah, why?"

"He's totally hot. I think he looked at me." She said.

"Woah you will not end up like the other girls." I said and whipped my head to the side to face her.

"I'll try my best but he is good looking." The bell rang and the teacher walked into the classroom.

"Hi guys so you'll have to forgive me this is my first year teaching at this school so I'm gonna get lost on the way to class. Anyway my name is Ms. Wilkenson and I'm teaching you english." She said with a bubbly tone. Everyone just stared forward. "Wow you guys must be tired." Everyone nodded slowly. "Okay to be honest you guys are sophmores do you really need to be taking english?"

"No." Everyone replied.

"We'll have a few worksheets but I won't overload you. Most of the time we'll probably just end up watching a documentary or a movie or something." She said. I looked around the room and saw posters for all sorts of movies. The Breakfast Club, The Avengers, Madagascar, Kung Fu Panda the walls were covered in them. Was this english or amovie club. "I can see you guys noticed my posters."

"Yeah why are they here isn't this english?" A girl asked.

"Well I like movies and I think you can learn more from movies then people think. Especially animation." Ms. Wilkenson said and leaned against her desk. "I don't have rules in here besides don't talk and no phones. So the rest of my period today is free get to know the people around you meet new friends." She said and sat down in her chair. I turned to Punzie.

"This year is going to be great." I said.
