Chapter 3

Zed felt something putting weight on his chest. He tried to breathe, but something was in his lungs. Suddenly he felt pressure on his mouth and air being forced into his throat, then sucked out, along with whatever was in his windpipe. Zed's eyes snapped open as he sat up coughing. Hand fulls of water came out as he coughed, the saltwater stung the back of his throat.

"Oh, thank the moon you're alive," An unfamiliar feminine voice came from Zed's right, it was so smooth and angelic.

His eyes were still sore from the saltwater and sand, so he still couldn't see clearly. He turned to the source of the voice and was able to make out the image of a girl with white hair sitting on her knees next to him.

"Addie!" Zed cried as he wrapped his arms around the girl, "I almost died!"

"Um," The girl said and gently pushed him off her, "I'm not 'Addie.'"

Zed blinked his brown orbs and rubbed them before glancing back at the girl.

She was pale with wavey long white hair and midnight blue eyes. Her facial structure was very different from Addison's; she had a rounder face and rosier cheeks that seemed to sparkle in the sunlight like there were reflective specks on her cheeks. She smiled sweetly, showing her perfect pearly white teeth.

"But, I am glad you're alive. Now, I need to go tend to your friend," The mysterious girl quickly jumped to her feet and leaped over Zed's legs.

Zed watched her gracefully fall to her knees beside a motionless Wyatt. The girl was wearing bleached light blue shorts and a flowy bright blue tank top and wasn't wearing any shoes. Unlike Zed and Wyatt, who were soaking wet, she was completely dry. The girl put her hands on Wyatt's chest and started pumping. She then pulled her white hair back behind her ear as she put her mouth on his. For a split second, Zed thought he saw a blue glow coming from her lips, but it disappeared as fast as it happened, so he thought he was seeing things.

Zed got to his feet and looked around. They were in a large rocky cave with a pool of saltwater take up the majority of the ground. They were on the only sandy part as the rest was tide pools and large dark rocks. He looked at the very clear blue still water; it was shallow for a few feet before it dropped into deeper water, and there looked like there was an opening at the bottom that led out to the open sea. The source of light was a big opening at the top of the cave where the sun shone down brightly. Zed spun around when he heard coughing, Wyatt sat up as he coughed up water into his hand. The mysterious pale girl smiled at the werewolf boy with her pearly teeth before she stood up and turned to Zed.

"There's an exit over to your left if you follow the path, it will guide you back to the shore where your friends are," She explained with a sweet smile on her face.

"Did you save us?" Wyatt asked, standing up.

"Yes, I saw the wave take you under, but you both had passed out by the time I got to you."

Her deep blue eyes fell to the ground as she whispered, "I'm sorry..."

"What?" Zed asked as he held his hand to his ear.

Wyatt stared at her, confused, "What do you have to be sorry about?"

The girl jumped in surprise, "Oh! I'm sorry that I had to take you so far away from your friends! The current was just too strong. I had to follow it!" She smiled before pushing their backs towards the exit of the cave.

"You better get going! Your friends must be distraught, you were out for a while," She said as she shoved their backs gently.

"Why don't you come with us?" Zed asked, looking over his shoulder and down at the short white-haired girl.

The girl simply smiled back at him, "I need to return to my own friends."

"Alright," Zed said as he started walking towards the exit.

Wyatt hesitated as he turned around towards the girl, "What's your name?"

"Oh, it's Serina." She smiled sweetly before giving Wyatt another shove, "Now go."

"Mines Wyatt! Will I see you at school?" He asked, walking backward while giving her a toothy grin.

Serina paused and stared at him for a moment before smiling at Wyatt, "You might."

Wyatt turned around and ran after Zed, who had kept walking. Zed turned and gazed at Wyatt as he caught up.

"Well?" Zed asked, "Did you get her name?"

"It's Serina," Wyatt said with a sigh and a faraway, dreamy look on his face.

Zed sighed, with the same look on his pale face, "Beautiful name for a beautiful girl."

Wyatt snapped out of his trance and snarled at Zed, "You have Addison."

Zed's eyes widen, he furiously shook his head, "I know! I have no idea what came over me."

"But, she did have white hair," Wyatt muttered, looking over his shoulder and stopped.

Zed stopped walking and looked back at Wyatt, "What?"

"She's gone," Wyatt scanned the cave floor.

It was empty. Serina was nowhere to be found. Zed quickly looked over Wyatt's shoulder and looked around.

"Where could she have gone?" He asked the werewolf.

"The water?" Wyatt noticed a few ripples in the water.

"I hope she's okay... But come on! Let's go back to the others." Zed said as he smacked Wyatt's arm.

Wyatt glared over his shoulder while rubbed his arm before following Zed. They walked for a mile and another. And another, through some rocks and shrubs before they came out into the bright sunlight. The sand was sticking to their damp feet as they walked out onto the beach. The walked a while further before seeing the familiar lifeguard tower...

Wyatt turned around and looked in the direction they came from. There was a hill close by, but it didn't have an opening at the top.

"Come on!" Zed hit Wyatt's arm before running off towards the tower.

Wyatt snickered as he turned his gaze to Zed's back and quickly caught up to him.
