Chapter 12

Back in Caledonia...

"Why did you save him?"

"For the last time, Shane, it just felt like the right thing to do."

"Did you forget about how much of us they killed? He could have killed you, Sky!!"

"Oh, is that right? He could have killed me when he was slipping out of consciousness?"

"You know what I mean!"

"I'm starting to think I don't."

This wasn't what I had anticipated our conversation to be like again. What did he want me to do? Apologize? That's not going to change anything. If I had the chance to save him again, I would in without hesitation—anything to feel as alive as I did when I put on that necklace.

Days have passed since the rescue happened, but Shane always found a way to bring it up time after time. Storm and Sierra told me that I could control water. The practice has been hard, so I let it be yesterday and focused on my magic instead. I've gotten better slowly, and I felt stronger than ever; however, I'm still curious as to why I got another power.

I'm still curious as to why the stone glows anytime I put it on.

Decisions need to be made, and I feel like I already know what I'm meant to do.

"You know I'm just worried about you!" Shane snapped.

"I wouldn't call it ~worrying~ anymore, Shane. At this point, you're being annoying. It's been five days!!" Skylar snapped back and rolled her eyes, "Wait till you hear that I'm going to the surface. " The siren thought, she mumbled, but the way Shane's eyes widened proved otherwise.

"ARE YOU OUT OF YOUR MIND SKY?" He yelled, "Could you be any more stupid? And it's not even the dumbest thing you've said." He spat with a harsh glare.

Amongst the tension laid heartbreak. His words were knives, and her heart was the target. All she wanted to do was find out why she got the power to control water, and she expected her boyfriend to understand.

"Why is this a dumb idea exactly?" She sneered.

"You're a siren, for crying out loud!! They killed our kind before, and moon knows what they're going to do if they find you!" Shane began swimming away, pinching the bridge of his nose and eyes shut, "I need to clear my head." He concluded.

"When you come back, I won't be here! And by here, I mean Caledonia." Sky whispered high enough for him to catch. He stopped swimming to deliver his final message.

"If that's the case and you really leave, consider us over."

Then he swam away, his tail the last thing Skylar saw.

Skylar made up her mind.

"Fine."

She was going to leave as soon as possible.

Her heart hurt, and she felt like she would break down at any moment, but she pulled herself together.

What about Sierra and Storm?

I'll just leave a letter. They can find me if they want.

That being decided, she picked up a pen and paper lying around before writing her final note to her sisters, telling them everything: From why she decided to go to the surface to Shane breaking up with her. When she was done, she wiped a stray tear attempting to escape.

C'mon Skylar. You're better than this!

She scolded herself.

With a sigh, she placed the letter in a place only three of them knew about.

Next, she wrote a letter to Lia, her little sister, telling her, 'Sky is on a little trip and will be back soon, but she loves you always.' then adding a little heart.

Lastly, she left one for Shane, thanking him for 5 of the happiest months of her life and wishing him well.

Skylar placed them all in the same place as she did Storm and Sierra's letters with directions as to who receives the letter.

With a heavy heart, she swam away slowly from her home. A voice at the back of her head called her a freak for controlling the water, pressuring her to believe she was a threat. So in a way, she was protecting Caledonia.

She turned to steal one final glance at the beautiful kingdom when suddenly a force pushed her forward, right before someone bumped into her.

"Watch where you're swimming!" She cautioned with a venomous tone.

"I'm so sorry!" A deep voice blurted, and that was all she needed to look up.

From his light complected skin tone to his dusty gold-colored eyes, the siren couldn't help but check out his features. His hair was dark navy blue, but it was put up in a ponytail. His shoulders weren't too broad, but his figure was still very much muscular. His tail was a gracious shade of indigo before fading to a deep reddish color, one that was rarely seen.

"My eyes are up here, princess." He teased with a laugh while the white-haired siren tried to hide her pinkish cheeks, "Are you okay?" He asked.

"Yes, I am. You-You  just looks a bit familiar.." She stuttered, drawing a laugh from the handsome stranger.

"I guess I have one of those faces. I'm Sebastian." He finally introduced. Sebastian proceeded to grab the siren's hand then planted a quick kiss on her knuckles making her blush more.

"Skylar," She giggled at his actions.

"Where are you headed to?" He questioned, causing her face to fall slightly.

"You wouldn't believe me if I told you." The merman's eyes followed hers as they drifted above the ocean.

He let out a chuckle.

"You're going to the surface, aren't you?"

"Can't deny what's true," Skylar smirked.

He took her hand, a soft smile upon his lips and a brightness to his dusty eyes, "Let me show you something.."

I recommend listening to the song first before you continue reading. Then just have the song in mind when you do read :3 Sadly, no, you can't read and listen at the same time, but it's still awesome :3 please enjoy...

"The seaweed is always greener, in somebody else's lake." Sebastian began singing as he led her deeper into the blue water. "You dream about going up there, but that is a big mistake." He winked before pulling her down to the bottom where the coral reef flourished beautifully.

"Just look at the world around you, right here on the ocean floor."

As if on cue, schools of fishes adorned with different colors accompanied by an adorable sea turtle made their way across the two folks and Serina couldn't help but smile. "Such wonderful things around you, what more is you looking for?"

"Under the sea, under the sea! Darling, it's better, down where it's wetter take it from me."  Reaching down, he plucked a flower then placed it behind the siren's ear before using his fingers as a camera to capture the moment. "Under the sun they work all day,"  The merman pretended to wipe away a bead of sweat from his forehead causing Skylar to laugh. "Under the sun, they slave away."

With a powerful beat of his fins, Sebastian swam backward while lacing his fingers behind his head in a relaxed manner, "While we devoting, full time to floating, under the sea!"

Down here all the fish is happy as off through the waves, they roll.

The fish on the land ain't happy, they sad 'cause they in their bowl

But fish in the bowl is lucky they in for a worser fate!

One day when the boss get hungry... Guess who's gon' be on the plate.

Under the sea,

Under the sea,

Nobody beat us, fry us and eat us in fricassee,

We what the land folks loves to cook, under the sea we off the hook

We got no troubles, life is the bubbles under the sea!

Under the sea.

Since life is sweet here we got the beat here naturally!

Even the sturgeon an' the ray, they get the urge 'n' start to play!

We got the spirit, you got to hear it. Under the sea!

Under the sea!

Under the sea!

When the sardine begin the beguine, it's music to me

What do they got? A lot of sand?

We got a hot crustacean band! Each little clam here know how to jam here, under the sea!

Each little slug here cuttin' a rug here, under the sea!

Each little snail here know how to wail here! That's why it's hotter under the water.

"Ya we in luck here down in the muck here, under the sea!!" He finished as he twirled the siren around.

Skylar giggled then turned back to him, "I'm still going." She smirked.

Sebastian smirked back, "Well you know what they say, if you can't beat em, join em!"

With a roaring laughter, they began swimming up on towards the surface of the ocean, making small talk along the way.

---------

"How are we going to get past that?" Sebastian pointed at the still glowing forcefield.

"By going through it. How else?" Skylar giggled.

"Doesn't it give off a shock or something?" He asked again.

"It used to. But Queen Isla made a few tweaks because her daughter likes appreciating  the hot land folks too." The siren confessed causing Sebastian to laugh.

Together, they swam through the blue forcefield, a weird feeling eased its way into Skylar's body. Though she was used to the magic coursing through her veins, this new sensation was oddly refreshing.

"Now what?" Sebastian wondered, rubbing his arms that were covered in goosebumps.

"Leave it to me." Swimming up, the siren waved her hand slowly in a circular motion.

"We've got to go, no time to waste..

turn our tails to legs right now in haste."

A bubble of water enveloped Skylar and Sebastian glowing blue as a melody roared through the ocean.

"Ah....Ah....Ah.....Ah...Ah... " The siren sang and twirled letting the magic do its thing while Sebastian watched in awe. He had never seen anything more beautiful. He could slowly feel his legs disappear and shuddered.
"Ah...Ah...Ah....Ah...Ah...Ah....Ah...Ah..."

"Ahh...Ahhh...Ahhhh...Ahh..Ahh..Ahhhh."

"Ahh...Ahhh...Ahhhh...Ahh..Ahh...Ah ..Ahhhh"

"Ahh...Ahhh...Ahhhh...Ahh..Ahh..Ahhh"

"..Ahh..Ah...Ahhh...."

At the final tune, the bubble burst to reveal Skylar and Sebastian with legs that swayed back and forth separately. The siren couldn't help but grin. She had on a pair of purple shorts and a spaghetti crop top with her hair put in a ponytail while Sebastian had on black shorts. Suddenly the world came crashing down and they both rushed to the surface as fast as they could.

Finally, they relished in the windy afternoon breeze and breathed in the fresh air. While the white haired siren admired the land view, Sebastian admired her.

The sun kissed her skin beautifully, making her glow and her eyes wandering around with an excited gleam in them, making her look adorable.

"Do you want to check them out?" He questioned to which she nodded energetically.

A little swim brought them to shore where they sat quietly. Skylar noticed there was nobody on the beach despite it being a sunny afternoon meaning both of them were alone. It was a good thing because she was going to practice walking with legs. As if remembering the detail, she took her feet out the water.

I have legs..

"I HAVE LEGS!" She squealed finally as she attempted to stand up. Sebastian laughed loudly as she fell face first into the sand.

"Oh like you could do any better." She teased the merman.

"Watch and learn princess." He chuckled then stood up before walking around casually.

"How?"

The siren whined as she tried standing up again. Skylar succeeded but as she tried putting one foot in front of the other, she began falling again.

Before she could hit the sand however, a pair of arms circled around her waist and a familiar laugh rang through her ears.

"We've got a lot of practice to do princess."
